Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our Lord said, "Go and make disciples of all nations." In 1995, He told me to "go to Kenya, East Africa and make those disciples." What I found was millions of natives needing to hear about Jesus Christ. I thought that I was going to do some great work and maybe even stay and be a career missionary. Boy, was I wrong! I didn't know it then, but when I got back to North Carolina, I realized my future calling. I was to take teams back to Kenya and let the Lord change the lives of not only the natives, but the missionaries themselves, and that's what happened. We've seen thousands ask Jesus into their hearts. Some of whom are over one hundred years old, and some who had never seen a white man or woman, or heard the Word of God. What a feeling to see someone give their life to Jesus so close to eternity.

Download or read book Miracle and Mission written by James A. Kelhoffer and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2000 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Longer Ending of the Gospel of Mark (Mark 16:9-20) was appended to the Gospel of Mark in the first half of the second century. James A. Kelhoffer explores this passage's distinct witness to the use of gospel traditions and the development of Christian thought. Concerning the origin of this passage, he argues that a single author made use of the New Testament Gospels in forging a more satisfactory ending to Mark. He studies the passage's sometimes innovative literary forms as well. Also of interest is the passage's claim that the ascended Lord will help those who believe to perform miraculous signs - casting out demons, speaking in new languages, picking up snakes, drinking poison with impunity and healing the sick - when they preach the gospel (verses 17-18, 20). This expectation is compared with portraits of miracles, especially in the context of mission, in the New Testament, various apocryphal acts and Christian apologists of the second and third centuries. In the two final chapters the author interprets the signs of picking up snakes (verse 18a) and drinking a deadly substance with impunity (verse 18b) in their history of religions contexts. An Epilogue summarizes the findings of this study and explores what can be ascertained about the otherwise unknown Christian author of Mark 16:9-20.

Book The Miracles of Missions Or the Modern Marvels in the History of Missionary Enterprise Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Miracles of Missions Or the Modern Marvels in the History of Missionary Enterprise Classic Reprint written by Arthur T. Pierson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-20 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Miracles of Missions, or the Modern Marvels in the History of Missionary Enterprise These observations of Dr. Christlieb have suggested the somewhat emphatic title of this book. We have chosen to call it The Miracles of Missions, notwithstanding the objections frequently urged to the use of the word miracles for it must be remembered that a miracle, as the word indicates, is noth ing more nor less than a wonder to which God appeals as a sign of divine presence and power; and all that we mean by this term as now used is that, in the history of modern missions, there are amazing wonders of di vine interposition and human transformation which admit of no adequate explanation if we deny the divine element. The author would simply add, before pre senting a few of these instances somewhat in detail, that the impression with which he began these studies, now more than thirty years ago, has daily and hourly increased as these studies have been further prosecuted. With these prefatory remarks we submit to the candid judgment of the reader the testi mony of missionary biography and history.
