Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this newly revised best-seller, known to millions as the "bible of fasting" Health pioneers and researchers Paul Bragg and Patricia Bragg teach why this ancient practice is key to health and energy, and critical to longevity and ageless vitality, due to our toxic environment and the stress of our daily lives. They share a detailed, step-by-step approach, accessible and informative for both beginners and experienced fasters. Our bodies must process not only our food and water, but the air we breathe, and whatever chemicals they may contain. Since detoxification and digestion take more energy than even strenuous athletic pursuits, fasting allows the mind and body to rest, renew and regenerate, to come into harmony and balance, and release the effects of stimulating foods like caffeine and sugars. The goal of fasting, say the authors, is to allow for the mind and body to self-heal. This concise, tightly edited "Miracle of Fasting" is filled with personal stories of Paul Bragg's travels around the world, including a fasting journey in India with Mahatma Gandhi.

Book Rational Fasting For Physical Mental Spiritual Rejuvenation

Download or read book Rational Fasting For Physical Mental Spiritual Rejuvenation written by Arnold Ehret and published by . This book was released on 2022-08-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2022 Reprint of the 1926 First Edition. Exact facsimile of the original edition and not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. Ehret viewed the principal cause of disease as arising from a lifetime's accumulation of mucus in the digestive tract. The mucus residing in the body becomes morbid and consists of "undigested, decayed and retained food substances, all of which are in a state of fermentation and putrefaction." (Ehret, 1922, p.5) Having no function or use in the body, the morbid mucus, along with masses of accumulated feces and undigested foodstuffs, leads to a toxic internal environment that creates the ideal conditions for constipation. Constipation, the disease of internal filth and uncleanliness, was identified by Ehret as the inevitable consequence arising from the "diet of civilization." His list of mucus-forming foods included dairy, eggs, starchy and farinaceous products, as well as fats and oils that also form the basis of adhesives and glues, and exhibit similar properties inside the intestines, causing the "digestive tract... not only to clog up through constipation, but literally [to be] glued together with sticky mucus and feces." (Ehret, 1922, p.8) Ehret was very vocal on some of the foods that he eschewed. In bold capital letters, he writes: "I ABSOLUTELY DECLARE WAR ON MEAT AND ALCOHOL; through fruit and moderate eating these great evils are radically diminished." (Ehret, 1926, p.14). As an alternative Ehret promoted his Mucusless Diet that "consists of fresh, ripe fruit and starchless vegetables." (Ehret, 1922, p.10) He reasoned, "Fruits, green leaf and starchless vegetables do not contain these pasty, gluey, mucus substances and are natural foods―yet little credit has been given them by doctors or laymen." (Ehret, 1922, p.8) In his diet protocol, these wonder foods of Nature had the power to dissolve the encrusted mucus layer found in constipated intestines. He explains the mechanism: "Fruit sugar causes and develops their fermentation and forms gases. This so greatly feared fermentation of the inside filth is another necessary stirring up process to prepare them for elimination. Acid and fermented starch and glue lose their sticky ability as soon as they ferment." (Ehret, 1922, p.8)

Book The Transformational Power of Fasting

Download or read book The Transformational Power of Fasting written by Stephen Harrod Buhner and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-02-02 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fasting practices to reconnect with the sacred, regain a sense of your life’s purpose, and heal physically and emotionally • Details what to expect during your fast physically, emotionally, and spiritually • Provides step-by-step guidelines on preparing for the fast, how long you should fast, what you can and can’t do during the fast, and how to end your fast • Explains how fasting can help or heal many chronic conditions, such as type II diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, psoriasis, and insomnia For millennia humans have fasted for spiritual, emotional, and physical reasons--as a way to heal their bodies, reconnect to the sacred, regain a sense of life’s purpose, and allow their souls to detoxify. We are evolutionarily designed to fast, and the body knows how to do it very well. Fasting allows the body and all its systems to rest, purify, and heal. During a fast, the body enters the same cleansing and healing cycle it normally enters during sleep. As a fast progresses, the body consumes everything that is not essential to bodily functioning--including bacteria, viruses, fibroid tumors, waste products in the blood, buildup around the joints, and stored fat--and the mind and heart release their toxic buildup as well. As Stephen Harrod Buhner reveals, in order to be truly transformed, you must first empty yourself. Offering step-by-step guidelines to fully prepare yourself for a deep fast, Buhner explores what to expect during and after spiritual, emotional, and physical fasting and detoxification. He details the necessary dietary and mental preparations leading up to your fast, what you can and can’t do during a fast, and how to end your fast. He also explains how to plan the length of your fast and how to choose between a water fast, a juice fast, or a mono-diet fast. Revealing how fasting can help or heal many chronic conditions, such as type II diabetes, childhood seizures, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, psoriasis, insomnia, and fibromyalgia, Buhner shows fasting as a way to truly inhabit the body, to experience its sacredness, and to activate its deep capabilities for self-healing.
