Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a remarkable dog story of a highly intelligent and gifted, athletic dog challenged against insurmountable odds in an attempt to regain his health and his life back after an acute accident. It is a deep bond between owner and pet canine or, better said, two best friends working together to discover a path to survival. Canine fibrocartilaginous embolism, better known as canine FCE, is not a term widely known by most dog owners; however, all dog owners will find this story riveting as they will learn and witness what can be accomplished when the love of an owner for his dog combined with man's best friend loyally work in unison. You will find this story to be heartwarming, emotional, serious, and funny. It will grab you and draw you in. You will put yourself into the story and wonder, Would you have stayed on this train of a true story, or would you have departed somewhere along the way? On average, 44 percent of the population in the USA own a dog. They are entwined deeply throughout the families they live and cohabitate with. Dogs have a way of discovering our mood changes, if we are sick, and if there is danger nearby. They are loyal to a fault and always happy to see us when we arrive. How far would we go to support them when the odds are against you? Reading this story will definitely make you ask yourself that question. I wrote this book because this story has to be told. I hope you enjoy the ride. To learn more about Bubba, please visit the webpage!

Book The World in Flames

Download or read book The World in Flames written by Jerald Walker and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lively memoir of growing up with blind African American parents in a segregated cult preaching the imminent end of the world—for fans of James McBride’s The Good Lord Bird. It’s 1970, and Jerry Walker is six years old. His consciousness revolves around being a member of a church whose beliefs he finds not only confusing but terrifying. Composed of a hodgepodge of requirements and restrictions—including a prohibition against doctors and hospitals—the underpinning tenet of Herbert W. Armstrong’s Worldwide Church of God was that its members were divinely chosen and all others would soon perish in rivers of flames. The substantial membership was ruled by fear, intimidation, and threats. Anyone who dared leave the church would endure hardship for the remainder of this life and eternal suffering in the next. The next life, according to Armstrong, would arrive in 1975, three years after the start of the Great Tribulation. Jerry would be eleven years old. Jerry’s parents were particularly vulnerable to the promise of relief from the world’s hardships. When they joined the church, in 1960, they were living in a two-room apartment in a dangerous Chicago housing project with the first four of their seven children, and, most significantly, they both were blind, having lost their sight to childhood accidents. They took comfort in the belief that they had been chosen for a special afterlife, even if it meant following a religion with a white supremacist ideology and dutifully sending tithes to Armstrong, whose church boasted more than 100,000 members and more than $80 million in annual revenues at its height. When the prophecy of the 1972 Great Tribulation does not materialize, Jerry is considerably less disappointed than relieved. When the 1975 end-time prophecy also fails, he finally begins to question his faith and imagine the possibility of choosing a destiny of his own.

Book Miracle at Medinah Europe s Amazing Ryder Cup Comeback

Download or read book Miracle at Medinah Europe s Amazing Ryder Cup Comeback written by Oliver Holt and published by Headline. This book was released on 2012-11-22 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Golf fans will not forget the 39th Ryder Cup in a hurry. Staged at the Medinah Country Club just outside of Chicago, the 2012 event has already gone down as the most remarkable competition in its 85-year history. The American team had home advantage, and a golf course unapologetically set up to suit its own players. Supported by tens of thousands of loud and proud fans, the USA's star-studded line-up dominated the first two days and ended the Saturday with a seemingly unassailable 10-6 advantage. No away team had ever won the Ryder Cup from such an unpromising position. Sunday was singles day, traditionally the forte of American teams. The situation looked bleak, especially when European team member and number 1 golfer in the world, Rory McIlroy, very nearly missed his tee-off time. Yet slowly but surely, the European team - who had top-loaded their line-up in one last throw of the dice - started to turn the scoreboard blue. With inspirational captain Jose Maria Olazabal stiring European blood with thoughts of the late Ryder Cup magician Seve Ballesteros (whose silhouette was emblazoned on the players' sweaters and bags), the tide turned and the previously dominant American players started to crumble in the face of the onslaught. Suddenly European players were holing miraculous putts to win holes out of the blue. Something very special was happening. When German Martin Kaymer sank his putt on the eighteenth green to clinch the point that retained the Ryder Cup, the most astonishing comeback in the event's long and distinuished history was complete. Miracle at Medinah is the compelling narrative of those amazing three days in Illinois, a fitting chronicle of an unbelievable sporting story.

Book Tender

Download or read book Tender written by Mark Childress and published by Overture Books. This book was released on 2014-03-03 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mark Childress's novel, Tender, is a little more than just a fine novel; it is a big, all-American, Technicolor dreamboat of a book, as vital and as intense as anything I've read in the last ten years. The legend is familiar to everyone who cares about pop music and rhythm and blues, but Mark Childress has invested it with an eerie mystery-train vitality that is only available to the talented novelist. There's something else as well; this is the first novel I've ever read in my life which is more inside rock and roll than about it; through the eyes of Leroy Kirby, Mark Childress has made the mad early days of rock and roll seem not just comphrensible but inevitable. Beneath the cool prose line of this minimalist epic there is the same raw and feverish drive that propelled the early rockabilly stars as they created a new kind of music. Childress's understanding and love of this new music lends Tender the sort of piney woods authenticity I associate with such American classics as Elmer Gantry and All The King's Men. If you care about rock and roll, Tender is going to knock your socks off. This is a great novel, and as Childress documents the meteoric rise of his talented child-monster-prodigy, Leroy Kirby, he never misses a beat. -- Stephen King
