Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The calling to parish ministry involves a journey leading through lowland thickets and high plateau vistas. It's a vocation not for weak spirits. The parish presents general challenges rather than specialist endeavors. So, wearing one hat after another, the pastor may speak from the pulpit, join a team processing a current social concern, visit the intensive care hospital unit, and offer counsel at birth, marriage, or death--maybe all in one day. Clergy and non-ordained alike will find that Parish, the Thought provides a closeup insight into this ministry, telling the truth about the defeats and victories experienced over the course of forty years in the parish. This memoir spends little time in navel gazing. Rather, the author explores the humor, conflicts, ventures, and achievements that rise in his memory. The reader will detect a commitment to priestly and prophetic ministry, one that seeks to comfort the distressed and to nudge the comfortable out of apathy, encompassing the personal and public dimensions of the faith. All this as an adventure following the Pioneer, Jesus, the Christ.

Download or read book Still Time to Care written by Greg Johnson and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2021-12-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the start of the gay rights movement in 1969, evangelicalism's leading voices cast a vision for gay people who turn to Jesus. It was C.S. Lewis, Billy Graham, Francis Schaeffer and John Stott who were among the most respected leaders within theologically orthodox Protestantism. We see with them a positive pastoral approach toward gay people, an approach that viewed homosexuality as a fallen condition experienced by some Christians who needed care more than cure. With the birth and rise of the ex-gay movement, the focus shifted from care to cure. As a result, there are an estimated 700,000 people alive today who underwent conversion therapy in the United States alone. Many of these patients were treated by faith-based, testimony-driven parachurch ministries centered on the ex-gay script. Despite the best of intentions, the movement ended with very troubling results. Yet the ex-gay movement died not because it had the wrong sex ethic. It died because it was founded on a practice that diminished the beauty of the gospel. Yet even after the closure of the ex-gay umbrella organization Exodus International in 2013, the ex-gay script continues to walk about as the undead among us, pressuring people like me to say, "I used to be gay, but I'm not gay anymore. Now I'm just same-sex attracted." For orthodox Christians, the way forward is a path back to where we were forty years ago. It is time again to focus with our Neo-Evangelical fathers on care--not cure--for our non-straight sisters and brothers who are living lives of costly obedience to Jesus. With warmth and humor as well as original research, Still Time to Care will chart the path forward for our churches and ministries in providing care. It will provide guidance for the gay person who hears the gospel and finds themselves smitten by the life-giving call of Jesus. Woven throughout the book will be Richard Lovelace’s 1978 call for a "double repentance" in which gay Christians repent of their homosexual sins and the church repents of its homophobia--putting on display for all the power of the gospel.

Book The Minister His Ministry His Ministration

Download or read book The Minister His Ministry His Ministration written by Aden John and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That we may appreciate the differences between what we have had simple knowledge of as Ministers and what God Almighty will actually want us to know in details. With an in-depth in-look into already familiar topics, we are to see things from a different angle.Often times we wonder why things happen in the way it did but we don't consider that we may have contributed to the end wherein we have found ourselves. On which side of the fence do we sit? Why have we leaders done things the way we have? What does God have to teach us still despite our vast knowledge of Him? Have we been in the right all these while? What is God Almighty still speaking to our hearts at this moment and where do we really stand? Why do we Ministers struggle for the gifts which God Almighty has not given unto us? Why do we hurt ourselves - trying to be like another 'Man Of God' simply because it appears he is a success? Why are we not content with all what God Almighty has given unto us? Why do we leave our places of primary assignment for to do something else and so work another man's fields when our fields lie uncultivated? Why the strife, the endless struggles, the continuous battles amongst ourselves when there is A More Excellent Way - The Way of LOVE? What does God expect of us in Ministry and how are we already going about it?Who is a Mentor and what exactly are his duties? Why do we need a good Mentor to make it in Ministry? To what extent is the Mentored supposed to go before he assures himself of firm standing? Why do we Ministers seek power on the outside when God says He has already given us Power? We all want Ministry success but do we know that there is a price to pay? Why is it so difficult for us to maintain our visions when God Himself is ever beside us to work things out for us?Truly we are the pastors and leaders of our churches and even the founders but have we forgotten that Christ Jesus is The Senior Pastor of His Church? We may own The Church Buildings but we are not the owner of The Church and so our members are not 'captives' to our Churches alone. Each Church however small or large is at best a branch of The True Church Of Christ and so anyone - Christians can belong to one Church or the other but is not to be held bound therein - because what Church A lacks is provided by Church B and Jesus ensures that not any single Church down here on earth has all 100% of His Full Packaging but spreads them across as He so pleases. In this era of time differentiation - as we await The Glorious Closure Of The Ages, there still are some things that God Almighty expects of us to know - that we may understand His Mind, correct ourselves and adjust our stands.
