Download or read book A Record of the Mines of South Australia Classic Reprint written by Henry Y. L. Brown and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Record of the Mines of South Australia May be noted. The work of collection, revision, and arrangement of details has been performed by Mr. E. H. Derrington, in the very short space of time available; and to him has been committed the task of seeing these pages through the press. The present edition numbers copies, which the Government propose to distribute principally through the agency of the Mining Exhibition referred to, providing also for requirements in the colonies. In this way they will endeavor to convey information to English capitalists and others financially interested in our mines, and also afford an opportunity for the general public to acquire some knowledge of the extent to which this country may claim to be regarded as having a great mining future before it. Book The Mines of South Australia Including Also an Account of the Smelting Works in That Colony

Download or read book The Mines of South Australia Including Also an Account of the Smelting Works in That Colony written by J. B. Austin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mines of South Australia, Including Also an Account of the Smelting Works in That Colony: Together With a Brief Description of the Country, and Incidents of Travel in the Bush About four months were occupied in visiting the Mines and collecting information, and during this time I travelled about miles, chiefly on horseback. I hope this work will be found especially interesting and important to readers in England, and elsewhere, who may desire information respecting our Mines, and which is not at present to be found in any other book. It is, I believe, 17 years since any detailed account of the Mines of this Colony was published in a collective form, and this was in a valuable work by F. S. Dutton, Esq., and entitled South Australia and its Mines. At that time the Copper Mines enumerated were eight, and the Lead Mines three in number! I trust so long an interval will not elapse before an enlarged edition of the present work will be required. Book The Mineral Resources of New South Wales Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Mineral Resources of New South Wales Classic Reprint written by Geological Survey of New South Wales and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-09 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mineral Resources of New South Wales I have the honor to transmit for publication my notes on the Mineral Resources of New South Wales. NO attempt has been made to describe all the ore-deposits of the Colony; all that was possible, within the limits of such a volume as this, was to indicate the mode of occurrence of the principal types Of deposits, and to supplement this, for the use of the prospector, by a list of the known localities Of the different economic minerals. It has long been felt that some such volume was necessary, in order that an idea of the magnitude and variety of the mineral wealth of the Colony might be obtained by the public, Without the labour of referring to a number of separate official publications. In regard to the geological portion of the work, free use has been made of the writings Of the late Rev. W. B. Clarke, the late Mr. C. S. Wilkinson, Professor David, Professor Liversidge, and the Officers of the Geological Survey; I have also had the advantage of personally examining most of the occurrences during a term of twenty-two years' service in the Department. The statistical information has been obtained from the Annual Reports of the Department of Mines, compiled by yourself and your predecessor, Mr. Harrie Wood. Book A Review of Mining Operations in the State of South Australia During the Half Year Ended December 31st 1909 Vol 11 Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Review of Mining Operations in the State of South Australia During the Half Year Ended December 31st 1909 Vol 11 Classic Reprint written by T. Duffield and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Review of Mining Operations in the State of South Australia During the Half-Year Ended December 31st, 1909, Vol. 11 The average price of standard copper for the half-year has been £59, the lowest since 1903. The total value of the output of copper for the year slightly exceeded that for 1908, a result somewhat unexpected in view of low prices and the restriction of operations in the latter portion of the year owing to the recent coal strike in New South Wales. The output of salt is smaller for the past year owing to the exceptionally wet and prolonged winter. This will result in an increased deposit for the ensuing season. The strike at Broken Hill brought the ironstone and limestone flux indus tries to a standstill for a lengthy period. With a settlement of these disputes and a rising market for copper the present outlook for the mining industry is much more encouraging than it was at the beginning of 1909. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Victoria and the Australian Gold Mines in 1857: With Notes on the Overland Route From Australia, Via Suez The railway system, in this sifting of the political machinery, is likely to receive a reconsideration, which may induce the colonial Government, with its ex panding cares and obligations, to alter its proposed policy of constructing and owning the main lines, and to avoid the dificulties alike of a cumbrous public debt, and of a decision upon the cheap or costly principle of construction, by leaving the whole ques tion to the readier solution of private interests. Book Record of the Mines of South Australia

Download or read book Record of the Mines of South Australia written by H. Y. L. Brown and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Record of the Mines of South Australia: Compiled, Under the Authority of the Hon. Laurence O'loughlin, M. P., Minister of Mines, by Lionel C. E. Gee, J. P., General Assistant and Recorder, Department of Mines The Third Edition, which was published in May, 1899, been carefully revised, and, with the new information added, this Edition is about twice the size of its predecessor. Every care has been taken by Mr. Gee to make it as up to date and accurate as possible; but still it is felt that much information is lacking, and that gaps exist, which, however, are gradually being filled by the official reports on holdings which are published from time to time. A map of the State, showing the approximate area occupied by the metal-bearing rocks, is appended; and also a statement giving the mineral production from 1840 to 1907. This latter can only be regarded as approximate, and is most probably well within the mark. I have no hesitation in saying that South Australia is exceptionally well endowed with minerals. The full recognition and exploitation of its wealth in this direction is in any case only a matter of time; and that the information gathered in this book may help in the forward movement of our State is my earnest hope.
