Book The Mineralogy of Michigan

Download or read book The Mineralogy of Michigan written by Eberhardt William Heinrich and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreword: Michigan has a long and varied geologic history that includes repeated episodes of volcanism, mountain building, deposition of marine and terrestrial sediments, and glaciations. As a result, we have been endowed with a rich and diverse assemblage of minerals. Appreciation of Michigan's mineral resources began well before the first Europeans set foot here. When Michigan became a state in 1837, one of the first actions of the fledgling legislature was to establish a geological survey of the state, to "furnish a full and scientific description of its rocks, soils, and minerals and provide specimens of the same" Our mineral resources have been studied, categorized, and evaluated for many years, and we continue to learn more about them today. Michigan minerals helped to build the state and nation, and they continue to be an important industrial and commercial resource, a fertile subject for academic study, and a source of fascination and enjoyment for countless hobbyists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1866 William P. Blake, professor of mineralogy, geology and mining at the College of California, parent to the University of California, Berkeley, prepared as a report to the State Board of Agriculture an "Annotated Catalog of the Principal Mineral Species Hitherto Recognized in California and the adjoining States and Territories. " Seventy-seven mineral species appeared on the list. It was the beginning of a series that became known as Minerals of California. This first catalog was followed in 1884 and 1886 by a list of 135 species compiled by H. G. Hanks, the first state mineralogist of California, and pub· lished in the fourth and sixth State Mining Bureau reports. Then beginning in 1914 with a volume prepared by A. S. Eakle, professor of mineralogy at the Uni versity of California, Berkeley, the Division of Mines and Geology published new editions in the series at approximately ten-year intervals. Book The Ore Minerals and Their Intergrowths

Download or read book The Ore Minerals and Their Intergrowths written by Paul Ramdohr and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 1193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ore Minerals and Their Intergrowths focuses on the properties, characteristics, and reactions of ore minerals. The book first offers information on genetic systematics of ore deposits and ore textures. Discussions focus on meteorites, magmatic, sedimentary, and metamorphic sequences, fabric properties considered from a purely geometric point of view, genetic fabric types, and the relationship of ore textures with industrial minerals. The text then elaborates on annotation concerning the arrangement of materials and elements and intermetallic compounds. The publication takes a look at alloy-like compounds and tellurides and common sulfides and "sulfosalts". Topics include umangite, bornite, jalpaite, argentite, naumannite, crookesite, coloradoite, novakite, orcelite, maucherite, parkerite, and horsfordite. The manuscript further touches on oxide ore minerals and gangue minerals and non-opaque oxide ore minerals, including quartz, calcite, dolomite, siderite, cerussite, smithsonite, jarosite, tenorite, zincite, and cuprite. The text is a dependable reference for readers interested in ore minerals and their intergrowths.
