Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing an overview of God's world through a microscope, this book gives a brief history of microscopes before diving into seeing the world through one. Starting with their simple origins in the 13th century as magnifying glasses and exploring some of the many modern varieties of imaging, we explore how they are used and some of what may be seen through one now.Filled with full-color microscopic images of varied animals, insects, plants and fungi, and microorganisms, as well as detailed information for using the modern microscope in the classroom.Discusses examples of stained and unstained slide samples, brightfield, darkfield, and phase contrast microscopy.Includes practical tips about the use of the microscope and labels many of the slide images for easier identification of microscopic structures.Though this is an independent text that can be used with any biology study, it also serves as a companion book in the Master's Class Biology: The Study of Life From a Christian Worldview high school course available from Master Books®. Those who purchase this book would not have to purchase a microscope in order to fulfill the requirements.

Book Scanning Electron Microscopy and X Ray Microanalysis

Download or read book Scanning Electron Microscopy and X Ray Microanalysis written by Joseph Goldstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 679 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has evolved by processes of selection and expansion from its predecessor, Practical Scanning Electron Microscopy (PSEM), published by Plenum Press in 1975. The interaction of the authors with students at the Short Course on Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Microanalysis held annually at Lehigh University has helped greatly in developing this textbook. The material has been chosen to provide a student with a general introduction to the techniques of scanning electron microscopy and x-ray microanalysis suitable for application in such fields as biology, geology, solid state physics, and materials science. Following the format of PSEM, this book gives the student a basic knowledge of (1) the user-controlled functions of the electron optics of the scanning electron microscope and electron microprobe, (2) the characteristics of electron-beam-sample inter actions, (3) image formation and interpretation, (4) x-ray spectrometry, and (5) quantitative x-ray microanalysis. Each of these topics has been updated and in most cases expanded over the material presented in PSEM in order to give the reader sufficient coverage to understand these topics and apply the information in the laboratory. Throughout the text, we have attempted to emphasize practical aspects of the techniques, describing those instru ment parameters which the microscopist can and must manipulate to obtain optimum information from the specimen. Certain areas in particular have been expanded in response to their increasing importance in the SEM field. Thus energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometry, which has undergone a tremendous surge in growth, is treated in substantial detail.

Download or read book The Microscope Vol 12 written by Alfred C. Stokes and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Microscope, Vol. 12: An Illustrated Monthly Magazine for the Student of Natures Little Things Introduction. - Three things prompt the writing of this paper: 1. It is the tri-centennial of the microscope. 2. It has been stated that not much has been done with the microscope in America, 1891. 3. At a meeting of the Presbyterian Clergy of New York, a few years ago, a divine repeatedly alluded to the "accursed microscope." Now the writer feels that he owes a debt of gratitude to the Dutch for inventing the microscope - that America has done and is doing something with the microscope of great practical value, and that things of beauty and utility should not be called accursed. Book Understanding Light Microscopy

Download or read book Understanding Light Microscopy written by Jeremy Sanderson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-03-28 with total page 848 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduces readers to the enlightening world of the modern light microscope There have been rapid advances in science and technology over the last decade, and the light microscope, together with the information that it gives about the image, has changed too. Yet the fundamental principles of setting up and using a microscope rests upon unchanging physical principles that have been understood for years. This informative, practical, full-colour guide fills the gap between specialised edited texts on detailed research topics, and introductory books, which concentrate on an optical approach to the light microscope. It also provides comprehensive coverage of confocal microscopy, which has revolutionised light microscopy over the last few decades. Written to help the reader understand, set up, and use the often very expensive and complex modern research light microscope properly, Understanding Light Microscopy keeps mathematical formulae to a minimum—containing and explaining them within boxes in the text. Chapters provide in-depth coverage of basic microscope optics and design; ergonomics; illumination; diffraction and image formation; reflected-light, polarised-light, and fluorescence microscopy; deconvolution; TIRF microscopy; FRAP & FRET; super-resolution techniques; biological and materials specimen preparation; and more. Gives a didactic introduction to the light microscope Encourages readers to use advanced fluorescence and confocal microscopes within a research institute or core microscopy facility Features full-colour illustrations and workable practical protocols Understanding Light Microscopy is intended for any scientist who wishes to understand and use a modern light microscope. It is also ideal as supporting material for a formal taught course, or for individual students to learn the key aspects of light microscopy through their own study.

Download or read book A Slip Under the Microscope written by H. G. Wells and published by Lindhardt og Ringhof. This book was released on 2022-06-13 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Should he confess all and face the consequences or should he keep his secret forever? 'A Slip Under the Microscope' is one of H.G. Wells' best-loved short stories, detailing the dilemma faced by the central character, Hill. During a botany exam, Hill inadvertently ‘cheats’ when he moves a microscope slide and is forced to choose between coming clean or staying quiet. This tale is a fascinating dissection of the themes of honesty and ethical behaviour. With certain autobiographical elements to the story, ‘A Slip Under the Microscope’ gives us a brief insight into the mind of one of the greatest authors of all time. H.G. Wells (1866 – 1946) was a prolific writer and the author of more than 50 novels. In addition, we wrote more than 60 short stories, alongside various scientific papers. Many of his most famous works have been adapted for film and television, including ‘The Time Machine,’ starring Guy Pearce, ‘War of the Worlds,’ starring Tom Cruise, and ‘The Invisible Man,’ starring Elizabeth Moss. Because of his various works exploring futuristic themes, Wells is regarded as one of the ‘Fathers of Science Fiction.’

Book The Microscope 1892 Vol 12

Download or read book The Microscope 1892 Vol 12 written by Alfred Stokes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Microscope, 1892, Vol. 12: An Illustrated Monthly Magazine for the Student of Nature's Little Things Microooocus oromrsns (raovxsronu. Name, perhaps), N. S. Oocci, very large, oval, oblong, or less frequently spherical, with a bright spore or nucleus variously placed; light translucent bodies with a very thin cell wall and clearish contents. Measure ments of those of circular outlines 4, rarely 5, u, in diameter; of the ovals 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, in longest diameter, rare individuals much longer, by 3, 4, 511 wide, or slightly more or less; the very longest specimens often contain two or three nuclei, but no chain-like forms; sometimes none of these would be seen in a dense field of the cocci. This is decidedly the largest, most bold-looking Micrococcus I have yet seen or have read of. It is magnificent. At first I thought I had large fields full of some mould spores. It occurs singly, often so numerous in old rot ting onion bulbs as to fill the field of the microscope very densely in a single layer. It appears soon after the Bacterium refringente, also in the water-mounted slides kept for several days. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
