Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Method of Enzyme Action A theoretical treatment of a scientific subject can lead only to a working hypothesis, and it is from this point of view that the theory of the mode of action of enzymes given at the end of this book should be judged. Owing to the circumstances in which the following pages were written, I have had neither the time nor the opportunity to verify the hypothesis by experiment. It is my hope, however, that the conception of enzyme action given will prove sufficiently interesting to induce some worker to test it and either prove or disprove it. From either result something of value will, I hope, be learnt. The spinning of hypotheses without producing new facts to render them more plausible may seem a useless expenditure of energy, but it seems to me that if the subject has been carefully reviewed before the hypothesis is evolved in its final form - as I have tried to do in this book - at least two advantages arc gained. In the first place the facts have been looked at from a new angle, and this may result in the observation of new relationships; and in the second place a working hypothesis may be reached, and this is the necessary prelude of fruitful experimental work. Book Principles of Enzyme Kinetics

Download or read book Principles of Enzyme Kinetics written by Athel Cornish-Bowden and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Enzyme Kinetics discusses the principles of enzyme kinetics at an intermediate level. It is primarily written for first-year research students in enzyme kinetics. The book is composed of 10 chapters. Chapter 1 provides the basic principles of enzyme kinetics with a brief discussion of dimensional analysis. Subsequent chapters cover topics on the essential characteristics of steady-state kinetics, temperature dependence, methods for deriving steady-state rate equations, and control of enzyme activity. Integrated rate equations, and introductions to the study of fast reactions and the statistical aspects of enzyme kinetics are provided as well. Chemists and biochemists will find the book invaluable.

Book Enzyme Catalysis and Regulation

Download or read book Enzyme Catalysis and Regulation written by Gorden Hammes and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enzyme Catalysis and Regulation is an introduction to enzyme catalysis and regulation and covers topics ranging from protein structure and dynamics to steady-state enzyme kinetics, multienzyme complexes, and membrane-bound enzymes. Case studies of selected enzyme mechanisms are also presented. This book consists of 11 chapters and begins with a brief overview of enzyme structure, followed by a discussion on methods of probing enzyme structure such as X-ray crystallography and optical spectroscopy. Kinetic methods are then described, with emphasis on the general principles of steady-state and transient kinetics. The chemical principles involved in enzyme catalysis are also discussed, and case studies of a few well-documented enzymes are presented. The regulation of enzyme activity is analyzed from a nongenetic viewpoint, with particular reference to binding isotherms and models for allosterism. Two particular enzymes, aspartate transcarbamoylase and phosphofructokinase, are used as examples of well-studied regulatory enzymes. The last two chapters focus on multienzyme complexes and membrane-bound enzymes. This monograph is intended for graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and research workers in molecular biology and biochemistry.
