Book The Message of the Old Testament

Download or read book The Message of the Old Testament written by H.L. Ellison and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2004-04-20 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For far too many, the Old Testament remains almost a sealed book. And it isn't that it has been tried and found to be difficult, but rather that it has been thought difficult and simply not tried. Ellison's wide circle of readers will surely benefit from this primer for understanding the Old Testament as a whole. With his established reputation in Old Testament studies, he is uniquely qualified for what might seem a Hurculean task, particularly when it has to be accomplished in 96 pages! Yet a brief survey of the Contents page will show that he has succeeded. As he says in his Introductory chapter: The Old Testament is incomplete without the New, for in all its portions it is looking forward to its fulfillment, but the New is also incomplete without the Old. To use it alone is like taking the roofs and towers of a great cathedral in isolation and suggesting that the walls exist only that they may suppport the roof.

Book Is Jesus in the Old Testament

Download or read book Is Jesus in the Old Testament written by Iain M. Duguid and published by Basics of the Faith. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians are not quite sure what to do with the Old Testament. Common mistakes in reading it include fanciful allegory, unattached moralism, and allegorical moralism (combining the other two!). Yet the Old Testament is not just a collection of inspiring stories about people who triumphed, above all it is a message about Jesus Christ, especially his sufferings and the glories that would followthat is, the gospel. The shape of the Old Testament shows us its incompleteness and points us to Christ either directly or through some of its major figures: Jesus is the new Adam, the new Israel, and the new David.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LifeWay Research shows that up to 78 percent of Christians do not regularly evangelize. This can change. This will change. 1X Evangelism introduces a church-wide strategy designed to help Christians reengage in personal evangelism. Most Christians believe evangelism should increase, yet more and more believers are disengaging from evangelism. Traditional church evangelism methods are no longer as effective. 1X Evangelism introduces a new approach: church-wide personal evangelism strategy. Unlike a program, 1X is a highly flexible strategy designed for small churches, yet adaptable to churches of any size. In 1X Evangelism, Dr. John Rothra uniquely combines church invitations, personal evangelism, and small groups into a church-wide personal evangelism strategy inspired by previous visionaries.

Book excerpt: An upper-level introduction to the Old Testament that offers students a thorough understanding of three key issues: historical background, literary analysis, and theological message. This second edition of An Introduction to the Old Testament integrates recent developments in Old Testament scholarship. It has many distinctive features that set it apart from other introductions to the Old Testament: It's committed to a theologically evangelical perspective. Emphasizes "special introduction"—the study of individual books. Interacts in an irenic spirit with the historical-critical method. Features points of research history and representative scholars rather than an exhaustive treatment of past scholarship. Deals with the meaning of each book, not in isolation but in a canonical context. Probes the meaning of each book in the setting of its culture. Including callouts, charts, and graphs, An Introduction to the Old Testament is written with an eye to understanding the nature of Old Testament historiography.
