Book excerpt: Are you wondering why your memory has been fading over time? Do you often make efforts to remember things and the only thing it yields is frustration? If you've answered YES, keep reading... ★ You Are a Step Away From Discovering the Specific Things You Should Do to Expand Your Memory, Grasp Things Easily And Be Able To Remember Them Easily, Even If You've Always Thought Of Yourself As Not Being Very Intelligent! ★ The ability to memorize things or retain information has been a prized skill since the ancient times. The passing down of cultures through the centuries has been successful because of individuals who remembered the legends, stories, laws and taboos. Today, having good memory is even more important because of the ever growing need to stay focused, productive and efficient in a fast-paced, stress-filled world- be it in the job or school environments, social places and other areas that involve inter-personal interactions and constant information retrieval. But if that's the case, why haven't we been taking the step to sharpen our memories? Why are people still struggling in their personal and professional lives due to poor memory? Truth is, memory is not been the easiest of things to work up, and you must know that already. But with a good understanding of how that part of the brain works, and a tested set of strategies to revive it, efficient memory can be achieved. I know you are wondering.... - How do you do it, especially if you've never been an A student? - What do you need to know and do to improve it? - What are the dos and don'ts you should observe to expand your memory and make it easy for you to retrieve everything you learn? - What strategies can you use to make everything possible? To answer these and many other similar questions, I present to you this simple, practical and powerful memory tool. With it, you'll understand what memory really is, how it works, and how to hone it once and for all for a better life. More precisely, you'll learn: ◆ The main reasons why you have issues remembering things ◆ The types of memory and how they work ◆ How improving your memory would change your life ◆ How to create a "memory palace" in simple steps to remember things easily ◆ The history of the memory palace and how it works ◆ More strategies to boost your memory effortlessly ...And much more! Think about all the ways a poor memory has been affecting you... Now imagine how a new life, with a flawless information retention and recall ability would be; the better connections you'd make, the more productive and efficient you'd be, and more importantly, the happier you would become. Even if you think everything sounds advanced and just 'out there', this book will break it down in a language you understand and that's encouraging and motivating to ensure you put what you learn into action immediatly! Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Preface. It may be said that Memory is the basis upon which all knowledge rests. Without Memory, education, and, indeed, the whole fabric of human economy, would relapse into chaos. But, although this wonderful faculty is so pre-eminently important, it is very seldom studied and, consequently, but little understood. The young at school or college, as well as persons of riper years, are left to make use of their own crude devices, following blindly their untutored instincts as to the manner in which, or the methods by which, they should impress upon the memory the more difficult matter they wish to remember. Every mind, it seems, whether learned or ignorant, whether young or old, without any outside suggestion or teaching whatever, but of its own spontaneous instinct, resorts to various devices or expedients for the purpose of impressing upon, and distinguishing in, the memory, by the agency of association, things that otherwise cannot be readily remembered, or effectually distinguished from each other. This principle of resort to the agency or assistance of association is a natural and righteous principle of the healthy human mind; and, being so, and, moreover, being of constant use and application, it seems proper that the better and more effective devices or expedients for aiding the memory by association should be singled out, arranged, and, as far as possible, reduced to an intelligible and practical system; so that, instead of having to grope blindly in the dark-as is the usual course-persons may be enabled to proceed to the application of the laws of association with the light and advisement of experience. Some have deprecated the use of any and all methods or systems of memory, characterizing them as "artificial." Doubtless there has been very considerable excuse for the adoption of such an attitude; for many enthusiasts have produced "systems" of memory which have been overloaded by a redundance of elaborate and distressing detail; and marked by an injudicious ramification of far-fetched device. The present writer is as much opposed as anyone to the substitution of an elaborate artificialness for the free and natural operation of the individual memory; but, at the same time, as order is preferable to disorder, system to confusion, culture to chaos, and skill to clumsiness, he recognizes a true and legitimate sphere for the application and exercise of a simple and judicious system of memory....

Book Making the Most of Your Memory

Download or read book Making the Most of Your Memory written by Radford and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This treatment manual provides step by step instructions for a 6-session program to help people develop practical knowledge and skills to ameliorate their everyday memory difficulties. The training program was developed based on the neuropsychological literature for memory rehabilitation, particularly focusing on compensatory memory strategies. It is also based upon training approaches and strategies from the fields of clinical psychology, experimental learning and cognitive neurosciences. The manual is comprehensive, clearly structured and sufficiently detailed for clinical use. It has been validated in a relatively large clinical trial (Richardson, Lah, Say, Thayer & Miller, 2009; Radford et al., manuscript in preparation). The program was developed to meet the needs and concerns of patients with various non-progressive neurological disorders, including traumatic brain injury, stroke and epilepsy. However, this program might easily be adapted for other groups with everyday memory concerns.

Book What You Must Know About Memory Loss and How You Can Stop It

Download or read book What You Must Know About Memory Loss and How You Can Stop It written by Pamela Wartian Smith and published by Square One Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2014-01-07 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leave it to one of America’s best-selling physician/authors to tackle one of the country’s fastest-growing health concerns. With over 77 million baby boomers living in the U.S., memory loss is quickly becoming a major issue. Although the common belief is that these irritating lapses in the ability to remember are a normal part of aging, current scientific research indicates otherwise. In fact, there are a number of reasons these lapses can occur. The good news is that once we understand why, we can actually restore and even strengthen our mental acuity. In her new book, What You Must Know About Memory Loss and How You Can Stop It, Dr. Pamela Wartian Smith explains why we forget things and what we can do to not only reverse the problem, but also enhance our ability to focus, concentrate, and comprehend. Dr. Smith begins by discussing why it is important not to simply accept memory loss as a normal part of aging. She then presents an in-depth look at the most common causes of these lapses in memory—nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, toxic overload, poor blood circulation, and lack of physical and mental exercise. She begins each section with a questionnaire to determine if the test taker’s memory may be affected by that particular cause. The author then details how that cause is involved in impaired memory, as well as a host of other mental issues ranging from insomnia to personality changes. Dr. Smith follows each discussion with a list of proven remedies to correct each issue. Also included in the book is a special section on recognizing and dealing with severe memory loss. While the pharmaceutical companies continue to look for that one “magic bullet” to reverse memory loss, the fact is that there are numerous scientifically valid treatments available to address this growing concern. Dr. Smith empowers her readers to avoid an unnecessary part of aging by offering simple and effective solutions.
