Download or read book The Medical Surgical and Hygienic Treatment of Diseases of Women written by Edwin Moses Hale and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Medical, Surgical and Hygienic Treatment of Diseases of Women: Especially Those Causing Sterility, the Disorders and Accidents of Pregnancy, and Painful and Difficult Labor This work contains some of the results of the observation, study, and experience of a quarter of a century of active practice. It is not intended to take the place of such works as Jahr, Leadam, Guernsey, Ruddock, Richardson, or Ludlam. It occupies altogether another sphere in our literature, and instead of superseding the above authorities will serve to supplement them. I have purposely omitted the minute history, etiology, diagnosis and symptoms of many of the diseases treated of, referring the student to the larger systematic text-books, and the practical physician to his own knowledge and experience in relation thereto. The time has arrived when Hom opathy must occupy a broader and more advanced position in the therapeutics relating to Gynaecology and Obstetrics, or its usefulness as a healing Art will remain circumscribed and contracted. The Law of Cure must not be hampered by such rules as "the minimum dose, the single remedy, and the rejection of local treatment." The physician who practices according to this rule is only a half-hom opathist. He avails himself of but half the capabilities of our Law of Cure, and his sphere of usefulness is limited accordingly. There are conditions where material doses are as hom opathic as an immaterial attenuation. There are cases when medicines locally applied are as strictly homoeopathic to the disease as when taken into the circulation by the mouth or stomach. The Law of Cure, enunciated by Hahnemann, is universal and all-embracing. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Diseases of Women: Medical and Surgical Gynecology Third: Many cases belonging to the category embraced in this work can be successfully treated, especially in their initial stages, by medical and hygienic measures. I have, therefore, made this feature of therapy conspicuous in the ensuing pages. In doing so. However, I have endeavored to draw a sharp line between what may be classified as medi cal and surgical conditions. There is no more tragic feature of medical practice to-day than is to be found in the deaths caused by a persistent and famous reliance upon medical treatment of conditions that. To the intelligent mind, are obviously amenable only to surgical measures. This kind Of practice often amounts to criminal negligence, the responsibility for which, more than ever before, is being defined in the courts of law. Book A Treatise on the Diseases of Women

Download or read book A Treatise on the Diseases of Women written by Palmer Findley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-10 with total page 1040 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on the Diseases of Women: For Students and Practitioners This book is the natural outgrowth of the author's Diagnosis of Diseases of Women. Much that was contained in the former work has been revised, the subjects have been reclassified, and more than an equal amount of text and illustrations has been added for the purpose of making a complete text-book on the subject of diseases of women. It has been the endeavor of the author to present the subject in detail without encumbering the text with needless repetitions. With this object in View, separate chapters are devoted to the subjects of N on operative Methods of Treatment, Hygiene and Dress, Preparation of Patient for Operation, Preparation of Operating Room, Field of Operation and Surgical Utensils, Choice of Anesthetics, Diet, Post operative Complications and Care of Patients after Operation, and frequent references are made to these subjects throughout the text. An effort has been made to give full scope to the discussion of conservative methods of treatment, such as douches, baths, exercise, massage, diet, dress, and tampons. The author is of the opinion that the non-operative methods of treatment of diseases of women have not received their due share of consideration In text-books and in practice which they rightly deserve. The subject of diagnosis has been placed on an anatomical basis, both macroscopic and microscopic, for' it is preeminently true of diseases of women that the making of a diagnosis is in large part the recognition of the morbid anatomy. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On Some Diseases of Women: Admitting of Surgical Treatment There is no branch of Surgery more open to improvement than that which relates to those accidents and diseases incident to the female sex, which admit of no relief except from the hand of the surgeon. In the standard works on Midwifery and the Diseases of Females, these surgical diseases are for the most part but imper fectly discussed, and their treatment is often described in few words, and without any suggestions to direct the surgeon through the ditfi culties and dangers of the more important operations proposed for their relief. Nor has there yet been published in this country any work specially devoted to the consideration of these difficult, and, for the most part, exceedingly distressing cases. Download or read book Personal Hygiene and Home Nursing written by Louisa C. Lippitt and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Personal Hygiene and Home Nursing: A Practical Text for Girls and Women for Home and School Use How often have you heard it said: "I wish the doctors in America were paid as they are in China, to keep their patients well and not to try to cure them after they become sick." It is true that in Europe and America medicines and medical treatments were for centuries given only to cure ailments present, and most of us are yet unwilling to pay for medical advice unless we are already ill. Yet, during recent years physicians have been devoting much time to searching out the causes of disease and to finding how to keep those already in health from becoming ill. These attempts at preventing sickness have been so amazingly successful that where all our modern knowledge is applied we are now able not only to control most communicable diseases but also to prevent many of the chronic diseases of middle and later life. Even the layman now recognizes that in the field of health, prevention is more effective than cure, and to a very marked extent we are using our physicians to keep us well rather than to cure us after we become ill. A full history of the advances in medicine and surgery that have been made during the last half century is not only most interesting, but is as thrilling as a tale of adventure. Many of those who have investigated the origin and transmission of disease have worked without financial reward, and some have even risked their lives deliberately that others might be saved from illness and death.
