Download or read book The Mediating Role of Transformational Leadership Style on Relationship Between Personality Type and Turnover Intention in Saudi Arabian Banking Context written by Seita M. Almandeel and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to study the mediation effect of leadership style on the relationship between employees' personality types and turnover intention in the banks of Saudi Arabia. Data were collected using online questionnaires from 343 branch employees from two Saudi commercial banks operating in Riyadh City in Saudi Arabia. The obtained data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (AMOS) to test the hypotheses. It was found that high conscientiousness has an influence on decreasing turnover intention. Moreover, bank employees with high conscientiousness are less likely to perceive their leaders as transformational or transactional ones. Regarding to openness to experience, Saudi bank employees are less likely to perceive their leaders as passive or avoidant styles of leadership. The results of the study demonstrated that Saudi Arabian employees who score high in Neuroticism are more likely to perceive their banks' leaders as either transformational or transactional ones. This research contributes to organizational behavior and leadership theory; it is considered as one of the first empirical studies within the Saudi context to investigate the mediating role of perceptions between leadership styles between personality traits and employees' turnover intentions. It is also one of the first studies to examine the relationship between personality traits, leadership styles, and turnover intention in banking contexts. The findings have several important implications. For instance, this study documents both the direct and mediation effects of perceived leadership styles on employees' personality and their turnover intentions which will be helpful for the development of new studies on human resource management and cross cultural management.

Book Leadership Styles and Employees Job Performance

Download or read book Leadership Styles and Employees Job Performance written by Aziz Javed and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership and followers' performance has always attracted organizational scholars' attention. Leadership is considered as one of the important factor, responsible for organizational and team's performance. Earlier studies mostly conducted in US and European countries and have mentioned a positive association between leadership and employees' job performance. Few authors have reported negative linkage between transactional leadership style and employees' performance. Most of these studies were conducted in public organizations. Here, we conducted this study in Pakistani work context to check the leadership effects on subordinates' task performance and organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs). We also checked the possible mechanism involved in this leader-follower relationship. Some authors have checked organizational politics and organizational justice as possible underpinning mechanism, while we tested employees' self- and collective efficacy as one of the possible mechanism. Our direct hypothesized relationships were between two leadership styles (transactional and transformational) and employees' task performance, OCBs, self- and collective efficacy. Our results were partially similar to previous studies while partially different for direct relationships. Both transactional and transformational were found positively related to employees' task performance, OCBs, self- and collective efficacy. Transactional leadership was a stronger predictor of employees' task performance while transformational leadership proved a stronger predictor of employees' OCBs. Both employees' self- and collective efficacy proved to be mediators between both leadership styles (transactional and transformational) and employees' task performance and organizational citizenship behaviors. Self-efficacy proved a stronger mediator between transactional leadership and employees' task performance while collective efficacy was stronger mediator between transformational leadership and employees' OCBs.

Book Understanding the Relationship Between Transformational Leadership Styles

Download or read book Understanding the Relationship Between Transformational Leadership Styles written by Yaser Y. Alahmad and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given our highly competitive and global market, organizations are constantly seeking continuous improvement of their products and services, and they strive to achieve higher innovation capabilities. Leadership with the ability to create this type of change and innovation is critical for an organization's survival. Most of the leadership literature has defined transformational leadership as a single-factor model. However, this empirical study will investigate the relationship between the individual components of transformational leadership on organizational outcomes. Specifically, the relationships between idealized influence, intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation, and individualized consideration and product innovation as an outcome are examined. In the absence of such understanding, it is important to conceptualize them separately, for research purposes, as well as for leadership development purposes. Additionally, this study investigates the moderating role of open system as the organizational climate's framework—characterized by flexibility, outward focus, and reflexivity—on the relationship between the individual components of transformational leadership and product innovation. The objectives of the empirical study are: (a) to investigate the roles of the different dimensions of transformational leadership on product innovation. By doing so, the research will provide a better understanding of the most influential factors within the transformational leadership style. Specifically, to determine if each component of transformational leadership has different roles in fostering product innovation and what are these roles; (b) to examine the use of an open system framework in the context of transformational leadership and product innovation, which represents a significant contribution, as this research will provide a better understanding of how open system as an organizational climate factor impacts the relation between each component of transformational leadership and product innovation; and (c) to apply the findings of the current study to benefit top management in examining their own leadership styles and how that impacts product innovation through the open system. While many studies have studied transformational leadership as holistic constructs, this study will explore the different elements of each component: Idealized Influence, Intellectual Stimulation, Inspirational Motivation, and Individualized Consideration and its relationship with product innovation. I believe that this will add greater understanding of each component of transformational leadership and will help practitioners with leader development. To fill this research gap, this study examines the following research questions: (1) What is the impact of transformational leadership's different dimensions: Idealized Influenced (II), Intellectual Stimulation (IS), Inspirational Motivation (IM), and Individualized Consideration (IC) on radical and incremental product innovation? (2) How does an organization's climate and, more specifically, an open system moderate the relationship between II, IS, IM, and IC and product innovation outcomes? A primary data collection methodology was employed in this study. Specifically, an online survey was used to facilitate the large-scale data collection process. Data from 220 respondents representing manufacturing and services companies located in the United States was collected. A respondent that has a c-level position, such as CFO, CIO, COO, etc, represented each company. Then the research model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings indicate that each component of transformational leadership impacts product innovation differently. This study makes different valuable contributions. Theoretically, this study conceptualizes and empirically tests transformational leadership factors--idealized influence, intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation, and individualized consideration--separately. Specifically, it empirically investigates how these factors impact product innovation. Practically, this research confirms that each style of transformational leadership impacts product innovation differently. Therefore, this finding can help companies with their leadership development process.

Download or read book An Investigation of the Relationship and Employees Engagement and Turnover Intention Emotional Intelligence and Tenure as Moderators written by Jing Cai and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper intends to investigate the impact of two types of leadership style (transformational leadership and transactional leadership) on employees’ engagement as well as employee’s turnover intention. Specifically, it builds link while introduces two moderating variables, emotional intelligence (EI) and employees’ tenure in the meantime to the investigation of leadership effectiveness. Whether leaders’ EI and employees’ tenure have the impact to strengthen or weaken certain leadership styles on employees’ engagement and turnover intention will be examined in the paper. The data were collected from one middle-sized enterprise in China, including 325 valid responses. Data results demonstrate that only transactional leadership style influences employee turnover intention and employee’s tenure moderates effect of transactional leadership style on employees’ outcomes but there was no significant effect of EI of leaders on two employee outcomes . Since the data mainly came from China, the paper integrates cross cultural theories and leadership practices in Chinese enterprises, discussions and implications of the research findings are offered. Key words: transformational leadership style, transactional leadership style, employee engagement, turnover intention, emotional intelligence, tenure.

Book To What Extent Trust in Leader and Ethical Climate Affect Turnover Intention A Research on Private and Public Bank Employees

Download or read book To What Extent Trust in Leader and Ethical Climate Affect Turnover Intention A Research on Private and Public Bank Employees written by E. Serra Yurtkoru and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on theory and research, the mediating roles of trust in leader and ethical climate on the relations between ethical leadership, organisational justice, and turnover intention are examined with structural equation modelling. Using 571 private and 535 public bank employees, it is found that turnover intention can be decreased by increasing trust in leader and ethical climate in the environment. In addition, the full mediations of trust in leader and ethical climate are supported in the relations between ethical leadership and turnover. However, trust in leader and ethical climate are found to have partial mediating effects between distributive justice and turnover and it is also found that procedural justice does not have an effect on turnover intention. Moreover, invariance tests have identified both model and structural invariance indicating equivalence across both private and public bank samples.

Book Leadership Style Interpersonal and Institutional Trust and Engagement

Download or read book Leadership Style Interpersonal and Institutional Trust and Engagement written by Forbis Ahamed and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the recent years, substantial evidences of the impact of leaders' unprofessional behavior and ethical lapses have been documented. These types of failures include the destruction of some of the world's largest companies and the resultant loss in hundreds of billions of dollars in shareholder values. Creating a healthy and trustful work environment is crucial due to the plethora of overwhelming business scandals across the world. Leaders play a pivotal role in shaping such a conducive, trustworthy, and engaged work atmosphere. Little empirical evidence exists; however, about authentic leadership behavior and its subsequent impact on work behavior like trust and work engagement. To fill this gap, the present research examined these issues in the banking sector in Malaysia. Specifically, it investigated the relationships among leadership styles (authentic, transformational and transactional), interpersonal and institutional trust, and employee work engagement. Furthermore, the study examined the mediating effect of organizational trust in the role of perceived leadership styles of supervisors and employees' work engagement. Sample consisted of 395 employees recruited from four major banks (two Islamic and two conventional). Data were collected with the help of standardized tools. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and other relevant statistical methods were used to analyze the data. As predicted, structural path diagrams showed that authentic leaders were perceived to be more trustful that contributed to employees' work engagement. The empirical test indicated that organizational trust played a significant mediating role between leadership styles and employees' work engagement. Although the study did not find certain direct paths as significant, the indirect paths or mediating roles were significant in the linkages of authentic and transformational leaderships with interpersonal and institutional trust as well as between these two trusts and work engagement. The model comparison and independent sample t-test further indicated that leaders in Islamic banks were perceived to be more authentic and trustworthy; subsequently, the employees were also more engaged in their job than their conventional counterparts. Finally, many alternative models were examined, and recommendations were made. Overall, this study is important because it helps to explain the overwhelming impact of authentic leadership factors on employees' work engagement, particularly, in generating a trusting relationship with the employees, which intermediates the relationship between authentic leadership style and components of work engagement. The finding should add to the leadership literature.
