Download or read book The Mechanism of Man written by Edward William Cox and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mechanism of Man: An Answer to the Question What Am I?, Vol. 2: A Popular Introduction to Mental Physiology and Psychology; The Mechanism in Action This characteristic presents itself turn where we may in the exploration of Nature. The normal action is always so complete and equable, the co-ordination of parts is so perfect, that we can see little more than results and are almost unconscious of the processes by which they are brought about. The Physician stud ing for years the action of the healthy body coul learn but little of its internal mechanism and of the functions of its various organs. He will procure more Of this knowledge in a few hours Of Observation by the bedside of the sick, when the organs are not working in harmony and their functions are imperfectly performed, when the human mechanism is out of gear, than in as many years of observation Of the healthy body or even of the lifeless form - for anatomy does not reveal function. Book Fertilization Mechanisms in Man and Mammals

Download or read book Fertilization Mechanisms in Man and Mammals written by Ralph Gwatkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fertilization in mammals normally occUrs within the oviduct, where it is relatively inaccessible to study. However, as a result of painstaking research, most of it carried out over the last five years, this barrier to experimentation has been largely overcome by the development of in vitro fertilization techniques for at least 11 different species, including man. The result has been a rapid increase in our knowledge of the physiological and bio chemical mechanisms involved in the fertilization process. The aim of this book, which is an extension of my recent review of cell surface interactions in fertilization (Gwatkin, 1976), is to present a brief, but well documented, account of the new knowledge that has been attained. Although this book deals with mammalian fertilization mechanisms, I have included some recent experiments on am phibian and invertebrate gametes to supplement the mammalian picture. This information is particularly valuable as the rela tively large number of eggs available from these lower forms has advanced our knowledge of certain fertilization mechanisms beyond what is known in mammals. However, in the interest of brevity, I have omitted details of morphology and minor varia tions between species. For these, and other aspects not covered here, the reader is referred to the books of Austin (1965, 1968), vii viii PREFACE Austin and Short (1972), Metz and Monroy (1969), Monroy (1965), Lord Rothschild (1956a), and Zamboni (l971a).

Download or read book Beyond Mechanism written by Brian G. Henning and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been said that new discoveries and developments in the human, social, and natural sciences hang “in the air” (Bowler, 1983; 2008) prior to their consummation. While neo-Darwinist biology has been powerfully served by its mechanistic metaphysic and a reductionist methodology in which living organisms are considered machines, many of the chapters in this volume place this paradigm into question. Pairing scientists and philosophers together, this volume explores what might be termed “the New Frontiers” of biology, namely contemporary areas of research that appear to call an updating, a supplementation, or a relaxation of some of the main tenets of the Modern Synthesis. Such areas of investigation include: Emergence Theory, Systems Biology, Biosemiotics, Homeostasis, Symbiogenesis, Niche Construction, the Theory of Organic Selection (also known as “the Baldwin Effect”), Self-Organization and Teleodynamics, as well as Epigenetics. Most of the chapters in this book offer critical reflections on the neo-Darwinist outlook and work to promote a novel synthesis that is open to a greater degree of inclusivity as well as to a more holistic orientation in the biological sciences.

USA. This book was released on 2023-08-15 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The automotive industry is experiencing a significant technological shift, driven by electrification, connectivity, intelligence, sharing, and the trend towards “software-defined cars.” With this transformation, the traditional car cabin is evolving into a digital, intelligent, and mobile smart terminal that prioritizes passenger-centric design and data fusion. The design of in-car interaction has become essential in creating engaging, emotional, and humanized user experiences. Future success for traditional car manufacturers lies in developing effective communication methods and context for the intelligent car cabin while addressing relevant issues.
