Book Gold Dinar as Alternative to Money

Download or read book Gold Dinar as Alternative to Money written by Talat Hussain and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study aims to, examine and analyze the history of gold dinar starting from the Prophetic era until Ottomans and to propose gold dinar as an alternative. In addition, this research gives a detailed study on economic and monetary integration among Muslim countries, nature of monetary currency, its functions and its evolution from the Islamic perspective. This study sheds light on the advantages and disadvantages of gold and fiat money and provides analysis of classical and modern scholars' view. The research relies on the analytical evocative methodology to achieve its objectives. It extracts several findings such as the differences of gold dinar weight during the Umayyad and Abbasid period, the views of classical scholars on the value of gold as a medium of exchange, measure of values and a means to possess other objects. The gold dinar has played an important role and successfully left an immense impact on the economy in both Muslim and European countries. Furthermore, it describes the view of modern Muslim scholars where most of them accept fiat money while some they prefer gold as money. However, the majority of the scholars are of the opinion that fiat money is the cause of the financial crisis in the world today. Moreover, contemporary Muslim scholars suggest implementing gold dÊnÉr by settlement of debt and using gold as a medium of exchange through the IDB and OIC channel. Finally, this research gives some suggestions to solve the problem of inflation and bring the stability in our financial monetary system and business. This is by proposing a suitable monetary system from the Islamic jurists' perspective for the Muslim world that will be protected from financial and economic crises and free them from servitude to the West due to the use of the fiat money monetary system.

Book Ancient and Medieval Economic Ideas and Concepts of Social Justice

Download or read book Ancient and Medieval Economic Ideas and Concepts of Social Justice written by Barry Gordon and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-03-20 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On March 17, 2015, Brill was informed that the article by Francisco Gómez Camacho S. J., "Later Scholastics: Spanish Economic Thought in the XVIth and XVIIth Centuries," in Ancient and Medieval Economic Ideas and Concepts of Social Justice, ed. S. Todd Lowry and Barry Gordon (Leiden: Brill, 1998), pp. 503-561 suffers from serious citation problems and that in some cases the original sources are never mentioned at all. It goes without saying that Brill strongly disapproves of such practices, which represent a serious breach of publication integrity. Brill condemns any violation of the authors' rights and the copyrights of the publishers, and distances itself from these practices. As a result Brill cannot stand behind the noted material as originally contained in this volume and for these reasons formally retracts the article by Francisco Gómez Camacho and also the volume. The volume will no longer be available in its current form. (Blurb: 13 scholars contribute to this survey of past discussions of the workings of economic structures and of justice in interpersonal relations, cultural institutions and the social order. They investigate the sources in each historic period from the world of the Old Testament and the ancient Greeks through to Spanish scholasticism and its offshoots in the Spanish Americas of the 18th century and relate the ideas of writers from the past to modern discussions.)

  • Pages : 185 pages

Download or read book Quite Right written by Norman Biggs and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-02-11 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics did not spring spontaneously into life, with rules set in stone for all time. Its story is closely linked with the problems of measurement and money that have often driven its progress. Quite Right explains how mathematical ideas have gradually emerged since prehistoric times, so that they pervade almost every aspect of life in the twenty-first century. Many histories of mathematics focus on the activities of those for whom mathematics itself was the motivation. Professor Biggs adopts a wider viewpoint. Making use of new discoveries of artefacts and documents, he explains the part that mathematics has played in the human story, and what that tells us about the nature of mathematics. The story reveals the power and beauty of mathematical concepts, which often belie their utilitarian origins. The twin paradigms of logical justification and algorithmic calculation recur throughout the book. No other book tells the story of mathematics, measurement, and money in this way. Includes secontions on: — The origins of calculation in ancient and medieval times — How mathematics provides answers that are right, and what that means — The impact of trade and the use of money on the development of mathematical algorithms — The use of mathematics for secure communications — How money and information are linked in our electronic world Quite Right is a fascinating story, suitable for anyone interested in the mathematical foundations of the world we live in. Norman Biggs is Professor (Emeritus) of Mathematics at the London School of Economics. He is the author of 12 books, including a perennial best-selling book Discrete Mathematics (Oxford University Press). He has a special interest in measurement and was Chair of the International Society of Weights and Scales Collectors from 2009-14. He served as a Vice President of the British Society for the History of Mathematics in 2014 and is an active member of the British Numismatic Society. 'This is a history of mathematics book with a difference. Instead of the usual chronological sequence of events, presented with mathematical hindsight (interpreting mathematical achievements from a modern point of view), this book tries to see things more from the context of the time - presenting the topics thematically rather than strictly chronologically, and including results and problems only when they fit into the themes ... the level of exposition is first-rate, with a far greater fluency than most mathematical writers can attain ... I am very happy to recommend it wholeheartedly.' Professor Robin Wilson, University of Oxford

Book Economic Analysis in Talmudic Literature

Download or read book Economic Analysis in Talmudic Literature written by Roman Ohrenstein and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-06-01 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This lucidly written study is unique in that there is no book extant by an economic historian that discusses Talmudic economics in the light of modern economics. Its major focus is on the intricate debates, statements and principles that were forged by the Talmudic Rabbis. This ancient storehouse of learning includes a wealth of economic knowledge of modern sophistication. The book taps these "economic treasures" by way of analytic inquiry. The authors, both economic historians and economists, through their study of the original dialectics in the Talmud, were able to discern a wide range of macro- and micro-economic ideas of major significance. These concepts when viewed from either a contemporary or a modern perspective, display an extraordinary degree of insight and sophistication. Indeed, sections of the Talmud and the reflections of subsequent commentators on those passages, embody a wealth of economic thought that was later to become significant in the reasoning of political economists, or of their professional academic successors.
