Book An Investigation of the Mechanism of Electrolytic Oxidation of Organic Compounds and of Competitive Processes Involving Hydrogen at the Surface of the Solid Metal Electrodes

Download or read book An Investigation of the Mechanism of Electrolytic Oxidation of Organic Compounds and of Competitive Processes Involving Hydrogen at the Surface of the Solid Metal Electrodes written by Thomas C. Franklin and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was made of the electrode processes for the oxidation of some low molecular weight organic compounds at platinum electrodes in 2N sulfuric acid and 2N sodium hydroxide solutions. A new method for studying the kinetic order of electrode reactions was used. It was concluded that the oxidation of the organic compounds at platinum electrodes is chemical in nature and that there are two products produced in the electrochemical reactions and these products in turn react with the organic compounds. It was postulated that these products are PtOH and Pt(OH)2. A coulometric technique using a polarograph was used to study the sorption of hydrogen at iron electrodes. This technique indicated that there was one form of hydrogen on the surface of the electrode, and that there were two forms of hydrogen absorbed in the electrode. The effects of solution additives on hydrogen absorption by iron were also studied. (Author).

Book Organic Reaction Mechanisms 1968

Download or read book Organic Reaction Mechanisms 1968 written by B. Capon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-30 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only book series to summarize the latest progress on organic reaction mechanisms, Organic Reaction Mechanisms, 1968 surveys the development in understanding of the main classes of organic reaction mechanisms reported in the primary scientific literature in 1968. The 4th annual volume in this highly successful series highlights mechanisms of stereo-specific reactions. Reviews are compiled by a team of experienced editors and authors, allowing advanced undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and chemists to rely on the volume's continuing quality of selection and presentation.

Book Organic Syntheses by Oxidation with Metal Compounds

Download or read book Organic Syntheses by Oxidation with Metal Compounds written by W.J. Mijs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 924 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the synthetic aspects of oxidation reactions involving metal compounds. which are readily available or easy to prepare. The sequence followed in the chapters is as follows: a general introduction. a limited treatment of reaction mechanisms to serve as a basis for synthesis. and scope and limitations of the oxidant system. mostly in terms of substrate and product classes. Finally, at the end of each chapter. representative synthetic procedures are given together with relevant experimental considerations. A general table is included as an appendix. This contains substrate classes and resulting product classes, referring to the oxidative procedures in the chapters. The table provides the synthetic organic chemist with a quick overview of oxidation possibilities with metal-contain ing oxidants, enabling him to select the right method for his purpose. The editors hope that not only organic research chemists in industry and at universities, but also advanced undergraduate and graduate students in organic chemistry, will find this book a useful guide in the design, understanding, and practical performance of oxidative organic syntheses. The editors are grateful to the authors not only for their contributions. containing interesting new developments in oxidation chemistry, but also for the way they fitted the text into the general framework given for the book. Their suggestions and comments are gratefully acknowledged. Thanks are also due to Mrs. A. I. Rohnstrom-Ouwejan, secretary to the editors, for her administrative support.
