Book The Mechanical Properties of the 18 Per Cent Nickel Maraging Steels

Download or read book The Mechanical Properties of the 18 Per Cent Nickel Maraging Steels written by J. E. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the combination of tensile properties and toughness that can be obtained with the maraging steels is higher than can be achieved with other steels by simple heat treatments, there is considerable interest in using the maraging steels for critical components such as rocket motor cases, pressure vessels, and aircraft forgings. This report includes information on the tensile, compressive, shear, bearing, dynamic modulus, impact, bend, fatigue, creep, and rupture properties of the 18 per cent nickel maraging steels and on the effect of temperature on these properties. Data for the properties of sheet, bar, and forgings, as well as data illustrating the effect of cold rolling, variation in the heat treatment, and elevated-temperature exposure also are presented. Data on the effect of specimen orientation, which are also included, indicate that the ductility and toughness of specimens designed to evaluate the properties in the short transverse direction are somewhat lower than in the other directions. The high strength and toughness that can be obtained in the 18 per cent nickel maraging steels make them attractive for certain critical applications that require these properties. The fabrication characteristics, weldability, and simple heat treatment are other advantages of these steels. (Author).

Book Mechanical Properties of Polymers and Composites Second Edition

Download or read book Mechanical Properties of Polymers and Composites Second Edition written by Robert F. Landel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-12-14 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text, now in its second edition, offers an up-to-date, expanded treatment of the behaviour of polymers with regard to material variables and test and use conditions. It highlights general principles, useful empirical rules and practical equations.;Detailing the specific behaviour of many common polymers, the text: places emphasis on time and frequency dependence over temperature dependence; uses contemporary molecular mechanisms to explain creep, stress relaxation, constant strain rate responses and crazing; provides explicit equations to predict responses; supplies a discussion of large deformation multiaxial responses; compares statistical and continuum theories on the same data set; and updates stress-strain behaviour and particulate filled systems.

Book Biosolids Engineering

Download or read book Biosolids Engineering written by Michael McFarland and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2001-01-10 with total page 1098 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expert help for designing and managing a biosolids program So notoriously complex and occasionally controversial that it has paradoxically reduced biosolids applications in some locales, CFR Part 503 becomes understandable, manageable, and doable with this expert guide from experienced environmental engineer Michael J. McFarland, diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and certified Grade IV wastewater and water treatment operator. If you have interest in or responsibility for fulfilling the intent of Part 503, putting biosolids and organic residues to beneficial use and decreasing the burden on landfills, Biosolids Engineering can help you: *Control the factors in wastewater and biosolids processing that affect usability *Apply soil chemistry and physics to finding safe and appropriate uses for biosolids *Design needed hydraulic, storage, and transport systems *Ensure pathogen and vector attraction reduction *Make biosolids engineering a team effort with agricultural specialists, mining engineers, water treatment officials, and highway, transportation, and timber specialists *Apply sampling and analysis protocols for effectiveness and safety *Increase public awareness of the safety and value of biosolids applications
