Book MEASUREMENT OF NOISE EMITTED BY ACCELERATING HIGHWAY VEHICLES

Download or read book MEASUREMENT OF NOISE EMITTED BY ACCELERATING HIGHWAY VEHICLES written by Light Vehicle Exterior Sound Level Standards Committee and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Recommended Practice is equivalent to ISO Standard 3621981 except for the differences detailed in the Appendix, and includes the modifications adopted by WP29 in ECE R51.This SAE Recommended Practice specifies an engineering method for measuring the noise emitted by accelerating highway vehicles of all types (except motorcycles) in intermediate gears with full utilization of the available engine power. The method is designed to meet the requirements of simplicity and reproducibility of results under realistic vehicle operating conditions.Measurements relate to operating conditions of the vehicle which give the highest noise level consistent with urban driving and which lead to reproducible noise emissions. Therefore, an acceleration test at full throttle from a stated engine or vehicle speed is specified. The test method calls for an acoustical environment which can only be obtained in an extensive open space. If measurements have to be carried out on the road in an acoustical environment which does not fulfill the requirements stated in this SAE Recommended Practice, it should be recognized that the results obtained may deviate appreciably from the results obtained using the specified conditions. The results obtained by this method give an objective measure of the noise emitted under the prescribed conditions of test. However, it is necessary to consider the fact that the subjective appraisal of the annoyance of different classes of motor vehicles is not simply related to the indications of a sound level meter.

Book Measurement of Noise Emitted by Accelerating Road Vehicles

Download or read book Measurement of Noise Emitted by Accelerating Road Vehicles written by Light Vehicle Exterior Sound Level Standards Committee and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Standard is equivalent to ISO 362-1:2015 and specifies an engineering method for measuring the noise emitted by road vehicles of categories M and N under typical urban traffic conditions. It excludes vehicles of category L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5.The specifications are intended to reproduce the level of noise generated by the principal noise sources during normal driving in urban traffic. The method is designed to meet the requirements of simplicity as far as they are consistent with reproducibility of results under the operating conditions of the vehicle. The test method requires an acoustical environment that is obtained only in an extensive open space. Such conditions are usually provided for during: -measurements of vehicles for regulatory certification and/or type approval -measurements at the manufacturing stage, and -measurements at official testing stationsNOTE 1: The results obtained by this method give an objective measure of the noise emitted under the specified conditions of test. It is necessary to consider the fact that the subjective appraisal of the noise annoyance of different classes of motor vehicles is not simply related to the indications of a sound measurement system. As annoyance is strongly related to personal human perception, physiological human conditions, culture, and environmental conditions there is a large variation and it is therefore not useful as a parameter to describe a specific vehicle condition.NOTE 2: Spot checks of vehicles chosen at random are rarely made in an ideal acoustical environment. If measurements are carried out on the road in an acoustical environment that does not fulfill the requirements stated in this document, the results obtained may deviate appreciably from the results obtained using the specified conditions. This procedure has been updated to align with modifications to the ISO 362-2015 standard. This Surface Vehicle Standard was developed to provide a method to measure the noise emission of road vehicles consistent with actual in-use urban vehicle noise emission. This document was further developed to provide a performance based and technology neutral test standard to reflect the development of engine and propulsion technologies that cannot be correctly tested under existing SAE Standards.

Book Acoustical Materials

Download or read book Acoustical Materials written by Pranab Saha and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2021-08-11 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is acoustics? What is noise? How is sound measured? How can the vehicle noise be reduced using sound package treatments? Pranab Saha answers these and more in Acoustical Materials. Acoustics is the science of sound, including its generation, propagation, and effect. Although the propulsion sources of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electric motor-powered vehicles (EV) are different and therefore their propulsion noises are different, both types of vehicles have shared noise concerns: Tire and road noise Wind noise Vehicle noise and vibration issues have been there almost from the inception of vehicle manufacturing. The noise problem in a vehicle is very severe and is difficult to solve only by modifying the sources of noise and vibration. Sound package treatments address the noise and vibration issues along the path to reduce in-cabin noise. In Acoustical Materials, readers will grasp the science of reducing sound and vibration using sound absorbers, sound barriers, and vibration dampers. Sound provides information on the proper operation of the vehicle, but if unchecked, can detract from the consumer experience within the vehicle and create noise pollution outside the vehicle. Acoustical Materials provides essential information on the basics of sound, vehicle noise source, how these are measured, how vehicle owners perceive sound, and ultimately, how to solve noise problems in vehicles using sound package materials.

Book Measurement of Minimum Noise Emitted by Road Vehicles

Download or read book Measurement of Minimum Noise Emitted by Road Vehicles written by Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Committee and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Standard is derived from SAE J2805 and specifies an engineering method for measuring the sound emitted by M and N category road vehicles at standstill and low speed operating conditions.. The specifications reproduce the level of sound which is generated by the principal vehicle sound sources consistent with stationary and low speed vehicle operating conditions relevant for pedestrian safety. The method is designed to meet the requirements of simplicity as far as they are consistent with reproducibility of results under the operating conditions of the vehicle. The test method requires an acoustic environment which is only obtained in an extensive open space or in special designed indoor facilities replicating the conditions of an extensive open space. Such conditions usually exist during: Measurements of vehicles for regulatory certification. Measurements at the manufacturing stage. Measurements at official testing stations. The results obtained by this method give an objective measure of the sound emitted under the specified conditions of test. It is necessary to consider the fact that the subjective appraisal of the annoyance, perceptibility, and/or detectability of different motor vehicles or classes of motor vehicles due to their sound emission are not simply related to the indications of a sound measurement system. As annoyance, perceptibility, and/or detectability are strongly related to personal human perception, physiological human condition, culture, and environmental conditions, there are large variations and therefore these terms are not useful as parameters to describe a specific vehicle condition.Spot checks of vehicles chosen at random rarely occur in an ideal acoustic environment. If measurements are carried out on the road in an acoustic environment which does not fulfill the requirements stated in this SAE Standard, the results obtained may deviate appreciably from the results obtained using the specified conditions. In addition, this standard provides an engineering method to assess the performance of external sound generation systems intended for the purpose of providing acoustic information to pedestrians on a vehicle's operating condition. This information is reported as objective criteria related to the external sound generation system's sound pressure level, frequency content, and changes in sound pressure level and frequency content as a function of vehicle speed. As such, these measures can provide pedestrians with information on the location, speed, direction of travel, acceleration, and deceleration behavior of a vehicle. Annex A contains background information relevant in the development of this SAE Standard. Updated to correct equations in Table 2 as well as the correct modifier in Appendix A's Item #5.
