Download or read book Reason for the Seasons written by James V. Schall and published by Sophia Institute Press. This book was released on 2018-11-15 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We can’t be joyful without knowing why we should be joyful. That’s why celebrated Catholic author James V. Schall, S.J.,– the thinking man’s priest– presents these short but powerful chapters on the most important and joyful feasts of the Church’s liturgical year. With Fr. Schall as your guide, you’ll come to understand more deeply the point of each celebration. You’ll learn truths about the feasts that will awaken you to real joy,as you consider Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, All Saints’ Day, and All Souls’ Day, as well as the End Times that we encounter in the last Sundays of the liturgical year. Rather than being encyclopedic discussions of each of the feasts, these penetrating reflections generally point to something astonishingly new that you missed before, something of the meaning and depth of each feast that is almost always passed over unnoticed, except by those who think long and deeply about them. In any one of these discussions, you’ll find never-ending causes of insight into what we are and who God is. In a word, this powerful – and delightful – book affords you an enormous opportunity to consider anew the great truths of our Faith handed down to us by our beloved Mother Church, and that each year are celebrated in Her Feasts.

Download or read book Staging Separate Spheres written by Susanne Auflitsch and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2006 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the first half of the 20th century approximately 10,000 short plays were written in the United States. This book examines twenty one-act plays by authors such as Mary Shaw, Susan Glaspell, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman, who wrote from such diverse backgrounds as women's clubs, art theaters, or commercial theaters. This study argues that the plays share a structural organization along spatial dichotomies of theatrical space within and theatrical space without. While some writers use the underlying structure of separate spheres and organize place and space in order to promote a broader definition of «domesticity», the spatial configurations in other plays are read as appropriations, affirmations, negotiations, subversions, or transgressions of the separate spheres dichotomy. Substantial bibliographies documenting the productivity of the one-act genre supplement this study.
