Book The Maternal Fetal Interface

Download or read book The Maternal Fetal Interface written by Anthony Carter and published by Boydell & Brewer. This book was released on 1998 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 29 papers contained in this volume look closely at various aspects of what is termed, "The Maternal-Fetal Interface," as it relates to the latest research in placental science. A substantial section of the book is devoted to the troublesome question of vertical transmission of infectious agents: namely, the HIV-1 virus. However, other sections of the volume examine related issues such as drug and toxin transfer across the term placenta and the diversity of placental types and how this can affect a placenta's effectiveness as a barrier. Anthony Carter is at the University of Odense, Denmark Vibeke Dantzer is at the University of Copenhagen, DenmarkThomas Jansson is at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden

Book Placental Bed Disorders

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert Pijnenborg
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2010-06-03
  • ISBN : 1139488686
  • Pages : 325 pages

Download or read book Placental Bed Disorders written by Robert Pijnenborg and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-06-03 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now recognized that defective placentation in the human is a cause of many pregnancy complications, such as spontaneous abortion, preterm labor and delivery, pre-eclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, fetal death and abruptio placenta. These clinical disorders can often have long-term consequences into adulthood, causing cardiovascular disease, obesity and diabetes for the newborn as well as an increased risk of premature death in the mother. This is the first book to be entirely focused on the placental bed, bringing together the results of basic and clinical research in cell biology, immunology, endocrinology, pathology, genetics and imaging to consolidate in a single, informative source for investigators and clinicians. Its core aim is to explore new approaches and improve current clinical practice. This is essential reading for clinicians in obstetric, cardiovascular and reproductive medicine.

Book Molecular and Cellular Immunobiology of the Maternal Fetal Interface

Download or read book Molecular and Cellular Immunobiology of the Maternal Fetal Interface written by Thomas G. Wegmann and published by New York : Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third volume in a series focusing on reproductive immunology. The book examines the molecular and cellular nature of immune signalling between mother and fetus, the role that this signalling plays in normal maintenance of pregnancy and how its aberrations may affect fetal development. These questions are considered under three major headings: the fetal major histocompatability complex, decidual effector cells, and cytokines. A detailed view of genetic phenomena affecting maternal fetal interaction at the molecular level is also presented. One of the most interesting concepts to evolve from this work is that the "molecular languages" of the hematopoietic/lymphoid and trophoblast decidua systems (and possibly the nervous system) are closely related and, in some cases, may be identical. In analysing the central problem of reproductive immunology from many different scientific points-of-view, the authors make clear that our somewhat parochial view of different biological phenomena will have to be revised and broadened as we find more evidence of universality in biological systems.

Book excerpt: Reproductive Immunology: Basic Concepts gives a holistic insight into the understanding of the complex interactions between the maternal immune system and the fetal/placental unit necessary for the success of pregnancy. This interaction is critical for the support of the human fetal semiallograft and the protection against infections. The book covers various topics such as B cells, macrophages, T cells, discussion on fetal signals and their impact on maternal reproductive cells such as endometrial cells, mast cells, and the role of fetal Hofbauer cells, the immune regulatory role of glucorticoids, and many other novel topics within the field of reproductive immunology. Edited and written by experts in the field, this book introduces the up-to-date knowledge of the role of the immune system during pregnancy and provides the necessary background to understand pregnancy complications associated with alterations in the functioning of the immune system. The book provides a complete discussion on the immunological aspects of pregnancy and serves as a great tool for research scientists, students, reproductive immunologists and OBGYNs. Shows the detailed evaluation of the knowledge related to each immune cell type in the pregnant and not pregnant uterus Evaluates each immune cell type and its function during specific reproductive events Provides the biological background for understanding the clinical aspects that will be discussed in subsequent volumes in the series

Book Vascular Remodeling at the Maternal fetal Interface Placental Interactions with Uterine Blood Vessels and the Lymphatic Circulation During Pregnancy

Download or read book Vascular Remodeling at the Maternal fetal Interface Placental Interactions with Uterine Blood Vessels and the Lymphatic Circulation During Pregnancy written by Kristy Red-Horse and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The placenta induces important vascular changes in the uterus during pregnancy that allow the mother to adequately support growth and development of the embryo/fetus. Specifically, the uterine vasculature must incorporate the placenta into the maternal circulation facilitating mechanical attachment and nutrient/waste exchange. As they invade the uterine wall, placental cytotrophoblasts remodel resident blood vessels in a manner that channels maternal blood to and from the placenta. Although both sides of the circulation are involved in this process, remodeling is biased towards uterine spiral arterioles. An ultrastructural (scanning electron microscopy) study that was completed as a part of this thesis dramatically illustrates the unusual nature of this process.
