It is desirable that, where two or more generating units. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Marine Engineer and Naval Architect, Vol. 46: April, 1923 One precaution which should in no case be omitted is to see that drums of carbide of calcium are. Lowered intothe engine room and stowed in a safe place before the engines are started. It is most important that all persons concerned should take the necessary measures to secure that. In practice at least this precaution is not neglected. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Marine Engineer and Naval Architect, Vol. 46: May, 1923 The results are given in Table III and show considerable variation in proportionality limit, elongation, and reduction of area. The heat treatment of nickel steel forgings is liable to produce in them strains of extreme severity. The exact nature of the strains it is not easy to determine. Were it only a question of simple expansion or contraction with vary ing temperature, the sudden cooling of the outer surface while the core is still bot will put that surface for the moment int-o a state of tension which the subsequent contraction of the core would reverse, and ultimately there would be compression strain on the surface and tensile strain in the interior. The action, however, is complicated by the changes of volume at recalcsccnce points, first beneath the cooled surface and then gradually farther in, and varying strains and stresses are set up in all parts of the pinion. Heavy stresses may thus come upon some portion of the steel when it is at such a temperature as to be in a brittle condition and result in a crack or in per manent injury to the steel. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Marine Engineer and Naval Architect, Vol. 46: June, 1923 The design and equipment of mercantile vessels is a vast subject to compress into so small a space. But the author of this book has contrived to deal with it very thoroughly. He. Considers ships as a whole, briefly, fundamentally, historically, and then goes on to deal with the more detailed portions of ships' structures. Complete section is devoted to sailing ships and their fittings - the Germans seem ever to have a soft spot for this type of vessel and the full-page drawings containing little sketch elevations of typical sailing craft are instructive and interesting. The author also deals in another section with the important question of tonnage and tonnage measurement. Do not pretend to admire the arrangement of the folding plates at the end of the book, however. They are arranged to slip into a thin paper band, which. Under stress of even occasional wear, cannot possibly have a very long life. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The History of the Theory of Structures

Download or read book The History of the Theory of Structures written by Karl-Eugen Kurrer and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-06-19 with total page 1248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zehn Jahre nach der 1. Auflage in englischer Sprache legt der Autor sein Buch The History of the Theory of Structures in wesentlich erweiterter Form vor, nunmehr mit dem Untertitel Searching for Equilibrium. Neben den bekannten Persönlichkeiten der Baustatik, wie Coulomb, Culmann, Maxwell, Mohr, Müller-Breslau, Navier, Rankine, Saint-Venant, Timoshenko und Westergaard, wurden u. a. auch G. Green, A. N. Krylov, G. Li, A. J. S. Pippard, W. Prager, H. A. Schade, A. W. Skempton, C. A. Truesdell, J. A. L. Waddell und H. Wagner berücksichtigt.

Book Reeds Vol 4 Naval Architecture for Marine Engineers

Download or read book Reeds Vol 4 Naval Architecture for Marine Engineers written by Richard Pemberton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook covers the theoretical, fundamental aspects of naval architecture for students preparing for the Class 2 and Class 1 Marine Engineer Officer exams. It introduces the basic foundation themes within naval architecture, (hydrostatics, stability, resistance and powering), using worked examples to show how solutions should be presented for an exam. The topics are ordered in a manner of a typical taught module, to aid the use of the book by lecturers as a compliment to a course. Importantly, this updated edition contains updated text and figures in line with modern practice, including an update of many of the figures to three-dimensional diagrams, and a new section on computer software for naval architecture. The book also includes sample examination questions with worked examples answers to aid students in their learning.
