Book The Management of University industry Relations

Download or read book The Management of University industry Relations written by Moshe Vigdor and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five case studies were conducted to collect empirical evidence on innovative mechanisms through which universities worldwide manage their relations with industry. Cases were selected from institutions of higher education in Israel, Papua New Guinea, Turkey, Brazil, and Uganda. These studies were selected for their innovative approaches, but also because they represent a wide range of development contexts. Taken together, the studies confirm the hypothesis that relations with industry have developed considerably over the past decade in all analyzed institutions. The scope of such relations is widening to embrace new types of linkages and new modalities for their implementation. The studies illustrate the variety of options that institutions have with regard to policy-making and organizational development. Chapters of this book are: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "YISSUM, the Interface for University-Industry Partnerships at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel" (Moshe Vigdor); (3) "The Management of University-Industry Relations in Papua New Guinea" (M. A. Satter and J. Pumwa); (4) "The Management of University-Industry Relations: Experiences of Bogazici University, Turkey" (Okyay Kaynak); (5) "The Management of University-Industry Relations: The Case of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil" (Guilherme Ary Plonski); and (6) "The Management of University-Industry Relations at Makerere University, Uganda" (Avitus Tibarimbasa and Eriabu Logujjo). Book The Triple Helix

Download or read book The Triple Helix written by Henry Etzkowitz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2008-02-05 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Triple Helix of university-industry-government interactions is the key to innovation in increasingly knowledge-based societies. As the creation, dissemination, and utilization of knowledge moves from the periphery to the center of industrial production and governance, the concept of innovation, in product and process, is itself being transformed. In its place is a new sense of 'innovation in innovation' - the restructuring and enhancement of the organizational arrangements and incentives that foster innovation. This triple helix intersection of relatively independent institutional spheres generates hybrid organizations such as technology transfer offices in universities, firms, and government research labs and business and financial support institutions such as angel networks and venture capital for new technology-based firms that are increasingly developing around the world. The Triple Helix describes this new innovation model and assists students, researchers, and policymakers in addressing such questions as: How do we enhance the role of universities in regional economic and social development? How can governments, at all levels, encourage citizens to take an active role in promoting innovation in innovation and, conversely, how can citizens so encourage their governments? How can firms collaborate with each other and with universities and government to become more innovative? What are the key elements and challenges to reaching these goals?

Book The Oxford Handbook of Higher Education Systems and University Management

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Higher Education Systems and University Management written by Gordon Redding and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-06-20 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world's systems of higher education (HE) are caught up in the fourth industrial revolution of the twenty-first century. Driven by increased globalization, demographic expansion in demand for education, new information and communications technology, and changing cost structures influencing societal expectations and control, higher education systems across the globe are adapting to the pressures of this new industrial environment. To make sense of the complex changes in the practices and structures of higher education, this Handbook sets out a theoretical framework to explain what higher education systems are, how they may be compared over time, and why comparisons are important in terms of societal progress in an increasingly interconnected world. Drawing on insights from over 40 leading international scholars and practitioners, the chapters examine the main challenges facing institutions of higher education, how they should be managed in changing conditions, and the societal implications of different approaches to change. Structured around the premise that higher education plays a significant role in ensuring that a society achieves the capacity to adjust itself to change, while at the same time remaining cohesive as a social system, this Handbook explores how current internal and external forces disturb this balance, and how institutions of higher education could, and might, respond.
