Book The Man Called Jesus Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Man Called Jesus Classic Reprint written by John P. Kingsland and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-11 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Man Called Jesus IT is a matter of prime importance that the Christian should gain as true and deep an insight as he possibly can into the Character of Him whom he professes to adore and serve. The goal of the Christian life is the attainment of Christlikeness. But, if we are to try to be like Christ, we must know what He was like. Nay further, if we are to gain a true knowledge of God, we must learn to know Him through the Man who alone fully declares Him. We apprehend the Character of God, truly, only to the extent to which we have apprehended the Character of Jesus Christ. But though the witness of the Gospels has been before the world for eighteen centuries, it will hardly be seriously questioned by any thoughtful mind that we are still very far indeed from a true and thorough apprehension of Him whose life and teaching they so simply and graphically record. Book The Character of Jesus

Download or read book The Character of Jesus written by Charles Edward Jefferson and published by Pantianos Classics. This book was released on 1908 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This biography of Jesus Christ focuses upon the personal characteristics and traits which He demonstrated to the peoples of ancient Judaea. The author seeks to demystify and clarify the subject, with a rigorous reading of the New Testament lore and other accounts of Jesus. The character of the Son of God was established when He approached others with interest in their life situations, in the words He delivered to them, and the deeds He undertook in life. The author posits that Jesus wanted mankind to arrive at the truth of what God intends for humanity by observing his own personality; He set a thorough example of conduct for all men, of the virtues which believers in the Lord can carry through life. Each quality Christ displays is given its own chapter. The author frequently quotes scripture to help his narration. We discover that Jesus was a candid person; delivering messages with frankness and clarity. He displayed patience, generosity, courage and enthusiasm in his daily life and sermons. Later on the work discusses the connections Jesus had with God; the holiness and reverence for the divinity He displays are significant. Finally the work summarizes the overall greatness of Christ. Charles Edward Jefferson was a clergyman who spent decades preaching in Ohio, writing several books on sermonizing and on various Christian topics.

Now, when we say, that more than eighteen hundred years ago there lived in Palestine a man called Jesus of Nazareth, with the surname of Christ, that this man caused great astonishment by his teaching and works, and was crucified, we condense the story of Christ so closely that there is no Christian, no Jew, no Mohammedan, no Pagan, no human being that would deny it. In other words, the historical existence and the crucifixion of Christ are world known, undeniable, and never-denied facts. A valid contribution to the interpretation of Romans 5, 'Christ and Adam' is also an example of Barth's exegetical method and provides insight into his broader theological project.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Man of Nazareth IN writing this book, I have had the ordinarily intelligent man constantly in mind, and have tried to answer some of the questions about Jesus, which have often arisen in his thinking but have rarely passed his lips. But While writ ing for the people, I have never forgotten the experts, a fact which they will quickly perceive, if they will do me the honor to penetrate to the core of the volume. I have tried to observe the rules of the critical game, have practically used only the first three gospels, and, even in them, have clearly differentiated the sources. I am ready to defend my position in the scholarly arena. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Jesus of History Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Jesus of History Classic Reprint written by Richard Davies Hanson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Jesus of History The idea of the present work was suggested to me many years since by the sermon of a popular preacher still living. He was combating the various excuses for not receiving the Gospel which he supposed might be urged by difi'erent classes of his audience, and, among others, that of not being able to hear the very words of Jesus and to witness his mighty acts. In answer to this he drew a picture of Jesus as a man of humble station and poor attire, surrounded by a few followers of the same condition in life as himself, and then asked if those Who now refused to believe the report of his life would have been likely to have recognized his real dignity beneath these humble appearances. The half-formed purpose, however, of attempting a life of Jesus for the purpose of depicting him from the point of view of his contemporaries was almost at once renounced, not more on account of conscious incapacity, than because of the apparent impossibility of fusing the various evangelical narratives into a clear and consistent whole. And I was content to look upon it as a work that might one day be accomplished by some more competent enquirer. Download or read book Jesus and the Men About Him Classic Reprint written by Charles Fletcher Dole and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Jesus and the Men About Him There is constant need of object lessons and parables, even for the most thoughtful minds, in enforcing moral truths. From whatever point of view we consider the figures in the New Testament story, they furnish most interesting types to describe precisely such men as we see to-day. Whatever, also, any one thinks of certain dogmatic or historical questions about Jesus, there is practically no name or word so clear or that carries such wealth of mean ing as when we tell men of the Christ life and the Christ ideal. The characters presented in the follow ing pages are here used purely for this practical or ideal purpose, as so many pictures or object lessons, to make truth the more simple and beautiful. The author, indeed, has ceased to be very deeply interested in questions of mere historical criticism. Larger and more important subjects demand the thought of the world. Men need to know that a beneficent God manifests himself in human life now no less than when Jesus walked in Galilee. Men need to have preached to them what Paul used to say, that as many as are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Men's faithlessness is not concerning the.
