Book excerpt: She's fallen for an angel... but he's mated to a monster. In a realm of orcs and powerful men, housemaid Alma Andersson is drowning - in grief, debt, and drudgery. And when her awful employer makes his darkest demand yet, she flees for the forest, and tumbles toward her doom... Until she's snatched to safety by a huge, vicious green beast. An orc. He's utterly terrifying, with his towering bulk, sharp teeth, and deadly black claws - but his touch is gentle, and his eyes are kind. And his scent is a deep, decadent sweetness, sparking a furious flame between them... But it's only more disaster, because Alma's shy, soft-hearted rescuer is already mated... to another orc. A tall, silent, snarling monster named Drafli, who loathes Alma on sight, and clearly longs for her death. Yet Drafli will do anything for his sweet mate, even if it means tolerating a weak, worthless human. So he makes Alma a cold, calculated offer: he'll share his mate with her... but only on his terms. He wants her silence. Her surrender. Her servitude. And with Alma's fate firmly in Drafli's ruthless hands, how can she face her own dark desires - or all the secrets hidden behind Orc Mountain's walls? Can a lost, lonely housemaid come between two orcs... without being crushed? ______ Paperback edition also includes a bonus epilogue!

Perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer and Sarah J. Maas. When sixteen-year-old Silvie’s brother takes over management of their family’s vast estates, Silvie feels powerless to stop his abuse of the local commoners. Her dearest friend asks her to run away to the woods with him, and soon a host of other villagers join them. Book The Maid of the White Hands

Download or read book The Maid of the White Hands written by Rosalind Miles and published by Crown. This book was released on 2007-12-18 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isolde's day has come. In Ireland, her mother, the Queen, lies dying. The throne of the Emerald Isle, one of the last strongholds of the goddess, awaits her. But while Ireland is her destiny, Isolde is already Queen of Cornwall, trapped in a loveless marriage to its mean-spirited King Mark. Her true love is his nephew, Tristan of Lyonesse, who has never married, remaining faithful only to Isolde. Across the sea in France, a young princess who shares Isolde's name enters the story. King Hoel named his daughtor in honor of Isolde of Ireland, and young Isolde of France has always been determined to outdo her beautiful namesake. She is a physician, too, and is called "Blanche Mains," for her white hands and healing touch. Blanche is of an age to be married, and she has chosen her husband—Tristan of Lyonesse. Her father objects, but fate favors Blanche. King Mark has become suspicious of his wife and nephew, and when Tristan is wounded in battle, he sees a chance to separate them for good. Mark sends Tristan to France to be healed by Blanche, who makes the most of the opportunity. Tristan's letters to Isolde are intercepted, and he is told that she has given him up. Near death from his wounds, Tristan sends one last, desparate letter to Isolde by a trusted servant. He is dying, he tells her, and asks for one final sign of their love. If she can forgive him for betraying her, she must come to France in a ship set with white sails. If the ship's sails are black, however, he will know that she no longer loves him. Isolde immediately leaves for France, but when Blanche sees the white-sailed ship from the castle window, she pulls the curtains and tells Tristan that the sails are black. To her horror, he turns his face to the wall and dies. There ends the traditional medieval story of Tristan and Isolde—with betrayal, death, and grief. But the original Irish lengend ends differently, and so does this book, wth magic and drama as only Rosalind Miles could write it.

Book excerpt: The career of Jeanne Dare—the name usually is written Jeanne d'Arc or Joan of Arc, an absurd equivalent—was so extraordinary, her personality was so marvellous, that she has been from the very beginning a constant source of interest to biographers and historians. She figures largely in contemporary records, not always trustworthy, but it may be worthier of credence than some critics have been willing to admit. Lives of her appeared in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and the writers of the nineteenth century have been particularly busy with her fame. Every biographer since has owed an enormous debt to Mr. Lang's work. It would be invidious to choose among the recent biographies written by Frenchmen; Mr. Lang cordially acknowledges his own obligations to them. This book is annotated with a rare extensive biographical sketch of the author, Andrew Lang, written by Sir Edmund Gosse, CB, a contemporary poet and writer. When the plague forces the Royal court to leave London, Mary is happy to leave the vice and frivolity behind… Only to find that the reputation of light-skirts follows her, regardless of how wrong the assumption is. Back home in the countryside village of Woodham, Mr Francis Hartwell disapproves of her friendship with his sister. He can’t believe that Mary won’t be a bad influence and lead her astray. Then the plague hits the Hartwell household, trapping Mary in the house with them to contain the disease. And when she succumbs to illness, it’s not her friend who tends her back to health, but scandalously, the Master of the household himself! With danger and rich historical detail, fans of sweet and clean historical romance will relish this Tudor and Stuarts era piece for the wealth of intriguing domestic history and the heart-pounding events that shaped England.

She’d spend her days serving as Lady Lorena’s maid in the Manor House of Shrotru while occasionally following her mistress to the Royal Palace whenever the occasion arose. When the circumstances change, and the girl finds herself tangled in a web orchestrated by the most powerful men on Planet Rozari, her only option is to leave, to join the first Rozarian battalion in the TransGalactic Allied SpaceForce. In the meantime, Lord Eryk Donika has basically nothing to do in this life. His brother Viscount Byb is set to inherit the family estates while Eryk is too lazy, too uninspired, too stupid, his Earl Father says, to figure out anything else to do. When the opportunity arises, he also sets his sights on outer space, for lack of something better, only to be entangled in Kacia’s web.

Book The Maid of the Whispering Hills

Download or read book The Maid of the Whispering Hills written by Vingie E. Roe and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2019-12-05 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Maid of the Whispering Hills was the first novel by American novelist and screenwriter Vingie E. Roe. The writer blended languages with grace, creating a unique style of her own. It is a romantic read with many twists and turns. All the characters of this story are life-like and complement each other beautifully. The novel was praised in a San Francisco Call review as "a big novel by an author of great promise." Excerpt from The Maid of the Whispering Hills "None other in all the post would have dared as much, for this smiling young man with the blue eyes was the Law at Fort de Seviere, factor of the Company and governor of the handful of humanity lost in the vast region of the Assiniboine. But to Francette he was Power and Help, and she thought of naught else, as it is not likely she would have done even at another time."
