Book excerpt: Meet Mack and K.C. McDuff, owners of Mac & Mac Enterprises. They’re security consultants and sometime bounty hunters, but they don't deal with average, every day, mundane threats. They hunt monsters for a living. Traveling like nomads in a converted school bus, they roam America, facing threats too small or too personal for the government to notice, much less deal with. Their calling is to protect the innocent, to fight the good fight. If they make a profit along the way, so much the better. From the mountains of West Virginia to a refurbished ghost town in Colorado, join Mack and KC as they make new friends, meet old friends, and shoot evil in the face. From "The Lewisburg Monster" “Are you Big Foot researchers like that nice fella that came over from Kentucky last month?” “No, ma’am, we’re not cryptozoologists. We’re more what you might call, um, bounty hunters or highly specialized exterminators.” “So, you’re literal Big Foot hunters?”

Book Centurion In the Valley of the God Kings

Download or read book Centurion In the Valley of the God Kings written by Steven F Warnock and published by Wordsmith Publishing. This book was released on with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joined by his Myrmidon Team, Centurion Ranger prepares to continue his war against the alien Rochack that have invaded Kat Delbath’s homeworld. First, though, he needs to gather new allies and new resources and prepare them for a battle unlike any the world has seen before. Alongside old friends and new, Ranger will destroy this threat to Humanity’s safety. From the book "You are Cobbald, yes? Son of the late Minister of War?" Zeno asked. He frowned when Edgar nodded confirmation. "My condolences, Mister Cobbald. If I understand Ranger’s metaphor, you more than most, uh, ‘have a dog in the fight’." "No, sir," Edgar said. "What I have is a duty. A duty to my fellow man to protect them from these alien ass clowns that have dared to land on our world, sir." He pointed a thumb at Ranger. "These aliens may be jerks, but they're friendly jerks. They're willing to pay us to work for them. With their tech. Equal shares to governments that sign on, special deals to business partners in the private sector. Imagine, sir, being able to have bases on Huginn and Muninn, to mine asteroids for metals and minerals that are exceedingly rare here. You should see the fusion plants on that little ship. The size of a tractor tire but able to put out more energy than the nuclear plant powering New Inisfrack."

Book Captain Grey s Gambit A Novel A Thomas Grey Novel

This book was released on 2022-04-05 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A taut historical thriller for fans of The Queen’s Gambit and James Bond. December 1803: A French invasion fleet is poised to cross the Channel and storm the beaches of southern England. A member of Napoleon’s inner circle—disaffected by Napoleon’s creeping tyranny—contacts the British naval intelligence service in hopes of defecting to London. His escape plan calls for a rendezvous at an international chess tournament in Frankfurt—a rare opportunity for him to travel outside France. Naval intelligence sends its top man—and best chess player—Captain Thomas Grey, to orchestrate the Frenchman’s escape to England. But Grey’s mission changes dramatically when the defector demands that his pro-Napoleon daughter come with him—expecting Grey to act not just as escort but kidnapper. The second novel in J. H. Gelernter’s already lauded Captain Grey series, Captain Grey’s Gambit continues a story that is “smart, fast, twisty, and dangerous” (Lee Child) in a “richly imagined early nineteenth-century world” (Richard Snow).

Book The Club Player s Modern Guide to Gambits

Download or read book The Club Player s Modern Guide to Gambits written by Nikolai Kalinichenko and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2019-10-04 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is no ordinary opening book. This practical guide describes only such openings in which White or Black sacrifices material at an early stage of the game. They are called gambits (in Old Italian, gambetto means tripping). The justification for such sacrifices can differ quite a lot. In most cases, the side that sacrifices material tends to get ahead of the opponent in development and/or opens lines to attack the enemy king. However, there are also gambits aimed at the occupation of the center (Blumenfeld Gambit), depriving the opponent of castling (Cochrane Gambit or Traxler Variation), weakening the opponent’s pawn structure (Anti-Moscow Variation), luring an opponent’s piece to an unfavorable position (sacrificing the b2-pawn), obtaining a certain positional compensation (Volga Gambit), etc. Gambits are often associated with the romantic chess of the 19th century. Indeed, that was the heyday of such sharp openings as the King’s Gambit or Evans Gambit, but even nowadays, many games begin with one of the well-known or even innovative gambits. This should come as no surprise: gambits help to reveal the true essence of chess, “the triumph of spirit over matter.” The concept of this book is to examine practical games and give theoretical insights in the notes rather than in stand-alone articles. Practice has shown this to be the most effective way of mastering new material. More often than not, recent games by the world’s top players have been chosen as an illustration, played in the last few years in particular. However, the most important classic games are mentioned as well. The present book analyzes almost 50 of the major gambit lines and systems. Almost 140 games are given in full, with many game fragments selected to illustrate the important deviations. And there is a special section about types of sacrificial themes, such as sacrificing the b2-pawn, sacrificing on f7, etc. Readers who may wish to employ one of the examined gambit variations on a regular basis should, no doubt, study the specific books on that very opening, although in most cases the lines and ideas given are sufficient for a beginner or club player to include the system in his or her opening repertoire and give it a try.
