Download or read book The Magnus Method written by Emmanuel Neiman and published by New In Chess,Csi. This book was released on 2021-11-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is it that makes Magnus Carlsen the strongest chess player in the world? Why do Carlsen's opponents, the best players around, fail to see his moves coming? Moves that, when you replay his games, look natural and self-evident? Emmanuel Neiman has been studying Carlsen's games and style of play for many years. His findings will surprise, delight, and educate every player, regardless of their level. Neiman explains a key element in the World Champion's play: instead of the 'absolute' best move he often plays the move that is likely to give him the better chances. Carlsen's singular ability to win positions that are equal or only very slightly favorable comes down to this: he doesn't let his opponents get what they hope for while offering them the maximum amount of chances to go wrong. In areas such as pawn play, piece play, exchanges as a positional weapon and breaking the rules tytyinndgames, Neiman shows that Magnus Carlsen has brought a new understanding to the game. He also looks at Carlsen's key qualities that are not directly related to technique. Such as his unparalleled fighting spirit and his ability to objectively evaluate any kind of position and situation. Carlsen is extremely widely read and knows basically everything about chess. What's more, as the most versatile player in the history of the game he is totally unpredictable. 'The Magnus Method' presents a complete analysis of the skills that make the difference. With lots of surprising and instructive examples and quizzes. Examining Carlsen's abilities together with Emmanuel Neiman is a delightful way to get to unlock you own potential.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most medical doctors have probably during their studies heard of the `Magnus and De Kleijn reflexes' and may have been aware of their relation to posture. But they know little about their significance and nothing about the man who unravelled the complex physiology of these reflexes and about his work. Rudolf Magnus lived from 1873 until 1927. His work on the physiology of posture was initiated during a short period of work with Sherrington in Liverpool in 1908. Though Magnus was also an authority in the field of pharmacology, it was particularly his neurophysical work on posture which made him known worldwide. It led to his nomination, together with De Kleijn, for the Nobel Prize in 1927. Unfortunately he died before the decision was made. In this illustrated biography Magnus' family background and his student years are described in a lively way. Fragments of the diary of his journey to England in 1898 and the description of his scientific career in Heidelberg will enlighten those interested in the history of how science was conducted during his lifetime. His lectures on Goethe as a scientist are also included. This is followed by Magnus' life as Professor of Pharmacology in Utrecht, and his studies on animal postures and experimental pharmacology. Finally Magnus' legacy is described.

Download or read book From Quantum to Classical Molecular Dynamics written by Christian Lubich and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2008 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum dynamics of molecules poses a variety of computational challenges that are presently at the forefront of research efforts in numerical analysis in a number of application areas: high-dimensional partial differential equations, multiple scales, highly oscillatory solutions, and geometric structures such as symplecticity and reversibility that are favourably preserved in discretizations. This text addresses such problems in quantum mechanics from the viewpoint of numerical analysis, illustrating them to a large extent on intermediate models between the Schrodinger equation of full many-body quantum dynamics and the Newtonian equations of classical molecular dynamics. The fruitful interplay between quantum dynamics and numerical analysis is emphasized.

Book excerpt: The three-volume set LNCS 5101-5103 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Computational Science, ICCS 2008, held in Krakow, Poland in June 2008. The 167 revised papers of the main conference track presented together with the abstracts of 7 keynote talks and the 100 revised papers from 14 workshops were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the three volumes. The main conference track was divided into approximately 20 parallel sessions addressing topics such as e-science applications and systems, scheduling and load balancing, software services and tools, new hardware and its applications, computer networks, simulation of complex systems, image processing and visualization, optimization techniques, numerical linear algebra, and numerical algorithms. The second volume contains workshop papers related to various computational research areas, e.g.: computer graphics and geometric modeling, simulation of multiphysics multiscale systems, computational chemistry and its applications, computational finance and business intelligence, physical, biological and social networks, geocomputation, and teaching computational science. The third volume is mostly related to computer science topics such as bioinformatics' challenges to computer science, tools for program development and analysis in computational science, software engineering for large-scale computing, collaborative and cooperative environments, applications of workflows in computational science, as well as intelligent agents and evolvable systems.
