Book The Magna Charta of the Kingdom of God

Download or read book The Magna Charta of the Kingdom of God written by George Frederick Genung and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Magna Charta of the Kingdom of God: Plain Studies in Our Lord's Sermon on the Mount It is universally agreed that the Sermon on the Mount is an utterance of cardinal significance in its relation to that divine kingdom which Christ came to set up in the hearts of men. What that relation is, however, is a question that has received various answers. The title here chosen may perhaps suggest, as well as a single phrase could, the idea to which the present study of that discourse has led. The Sermon on the Mount is not a code or digest of specific commands, nor is it, though indeed in imperative form, a manifesto, summarizing those intentions of the King which mere extraneous authority is adequate to enforce. It proposes a kind and degree of obedience which only the free and loving impulse of the regenerate heart can make good. Meeting us on the threshold of the kingdom of God, it determines for us our status, where we stand, as free and loyal subjects, in the sight of God and in the presence of our true life. Download or read book King Manasseh and Child Sacrifice written by Francesca Stavrakopoulou and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-10-24 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hebrew Bible portrays King Manasseh and child sacrifice as the most reprehensible person and the most objectionable practice within the story of 'Israel'. This monograph suggests that historically, neither were as deviant as the Hebrew Bible appears to insist. Through careful historical reconstruction, it is argued that Manasseh was one of Judah's most successful monarchs, and child sacrifice played a central role in ancient Judahite religious practice. The biblical writers, motivated by ideological concerns, have thus deliberately distorted the truth about Manasseh and child sacrifice.

Book Nicene and Post Nicene Fathers

Download or read book Nicene and Post Nicene Fathers written by Philip Schaff and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2007-05-01 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Council of Nicaea in 325 AD marked the beginning of a new era in Christianity. For the first time, doctrines were organized into a single creed. The Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers did most of their writing during and after this important event in Church history. Unlike the previous era of Christian writing, the Nicene and Post-Nicene era is dominated by a few very important and prolific writers. In Volume VI of the 14-volume collected writings of the Nicenes and Post-Nicenes (first published between 1886 and 1889), readers will find Saint Augustines exegesis on the Gospels and the Sermon on the Mount, which strove to interpret and draw meaning out of the text without incorporating the author's personal agenda or bias. Also included in this volume are a selection of Augustines sermons."
