Now, we must take care to carry this great tradition forward. No magic has been left behind in this fiercely imaginative work. The lyricism and layers of meaning in these stories bring pleasure and laughter to children, as well as to the adults who read aloud to them. Meet your fellow adventurers: Quizzle, a feisty little fairy with red hair, and her best friend, Pinky Palm, an everyanimal whose fur changes colours to reflect his emotions. Fairies have a sacred job: they make wishes come true, but only when those wishes are made from the heart. As an everyanimal, Pinky Palm has a special gift, too. He can put himself into the hearts, paws, talons, and even shoes of just about anyone, making him the perfect partner for Quizzle on her fairy assignments. Together, they help others look into their hearts to discover what really matters. Join Quizzle, Pinky Palm, and their friends as they confront countless conundrums. Will they help Auntie Hoolahoop find her lost wing? Can Pinky convince two stubborn squirrels to overcome their big 'tug-its-mine' quandary? Will Quizzle help TT the Troll to learn to trust again? Will Mrs. Grupple—the sweetest yellow dog you've ever seen— discover what a password smells like so she can return to Tree Forest to see her friends? Will Quizzle and Pinky Palm finally awake from their slumber in time to save their shadows from the ominous Shadow Catchers? All these adventures and more await as you enter this wondrous, enchanting world!

Book Father Rick Roamin Catholic

Download or read book Father Rick Roamin Catholic written by Rick Prashaw and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2022-02-04 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a boy, he played a priest saying Mass. Fast forward to the ’70s—long hair and rock-n-roll—a time for enjoying a new freedom as a budding young journalist at the Vancouver Sun. But after a random, chance trip to Seattle to visit family at a rectory, his life changed in an instant. Because when God calls, you answer. Father Rick thrived in the Second Vatican Council Reformation. He helped build communities and opened minds and hearts through his humour, passion, and understanding. Eleven years passed, and Father Rick began to feel the familiar pull of change. Love finds a way. He could no longer deny his new calling—husband to Suzanne and Dad to an irascible Adam who would lead him to forever love. Father Rick, Roamin’ Catholic is an eye-opening memoir shining a light on faith, religion, and the little-known life of priests. There is joy and mischief in the stories Rick tells a niece in Toronto as they munch Easter eggs on Good Friday during the Covid pandemic. He writes about a Church’s declining attendance and troubling issues, right beside miracles, good works, and good people. “My faith was now more Roamin’ than Roman Catholic, a God bigger than any catechism taught me. Be who we are. Love who we love. A believer, still standing."

Book War Tourist

Download or read book War Tourist written by Hilary Brown and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hilary Brown has filed television reports from every continent except Antarctica. She was once profiled on TVO’s ‘The Agenda’ as ‘Canada’s best-ever female foreign correspondent.’ This embarrasses her. She was one of the last journalists to be lifted by helicopter from the roof of the American Embassy in Saigon in 1975, during the Communist takeover of South Vietnam. One of her ABC reports later appeared in the motion picture ‘The Deer Hunter’ in what Brown calls her ‘fifteen seconds of fame.’ During the 1980’s she was an Anchor for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto, an experience she describes as ‘death by hairspray.’ She later returned to ABC News for another 18 years to do the work she loved best: foreign news reporting. She was married to the British biographer and BBC correspondent John Bierman, who she met in Pakistan during the Indo-Pak war of 1971. He became her mentor, best friend, and father of her only child. Their life together, in half a dozen countries over three decades, is a great love story that only ended with his death in 2006. As a widow, Brown continued to work at what she calls ‘the best job in the world’ before she finally hung up her trench coat. Two years later she fell in love with a Canadian businessman who, until the global pandemic, flew her around the world in the relentless pursuit of pseudo-extreme sports for which she was totally unqualified. She says he keeps her in a constant state of excitement and fear, which is just like being a foreign correspondent, all over again. Foreign correspondents are like war tourists in flak jackets,’ she writes. ‘They document human misery, and then move on.’ But many are left with the emotional baggage of guilt, and a search for atonement. This is one of the many themes in Brown’s lively memoir, and it’s quite a ride. To readers of all ages, but especially her own, her message is that life is never over... until it’s over.
