Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who's Afraid of the BIG Bad Wolves? Two weeks have passed since we’ve last seen our heroes as they received the news of hundreds of feral demon sightings. But, the summoning circles have opened a lot more than just Coven drama in the world of Raen. With the annual blizzard having just ended, the people still aren’t clear of danger. The Coven is in chaos, and Vanessa and Bobo are widely known throughout for their previous achievements. With the city in turmoil, the High Priest Council has ordered a mandatory curfew for the beings of Tolvade as Hunter scouts and Spellweavers roam the streets binding any feral underworld creatures they can find. Meanwhile, Vanessa, Bobo, Leon, and Lyx all try to resume their old life. Something that may be impossible with their newly assigned missions. One is just a simple routine checkup at the local sanctuary to gather information on a massive black magic spell, the other twists them down a dark road that somehow ends up giving them a lead on a potential de-summoning spell. There’s only one catch: It’ll take them into the heart of the infamous Black Forest. Full of giant wolves, dangerous magic, and chock-full of secrets, the Black Forest is not a place for the faint of heart… actually, it’s not for anyone with a heart. If you are alive (in any sense of the word) the Black Forest was the last place you’d venture to if you wanted to keep it that way. If this suicide mission wasn’t difficult enough, each of our beloved characters is faced with inner battles that could shatter their bonds with one another. Will the dynamic duo and their feisty friends manage to survive the darkness within and come back to Coven HQ with a spell that hasn’t been used in almost 200 years, or will they be lost within the forest forever?

All rights reserved. Chapter 10 - Egon Egon, spewing and cursing, trampled through the halls of the Castle of Bosartig. He was rage walking. All the mice in the kingdom that saw him from a distance backed off and quickly fled the other way, probably hoping they had not been spotted. Those less fortunate, quickly learned the folly of being in the path of a mouse gone mad. Egon had already given orders to have all the mouse soldiers ready by the time he made it to the front of the castle. The mouse soldiers were lined up row by row by the time Egon made it out to the castle's courtyard. Many gulped when Egon appeared. "Mice!" Egon bellowed. "Yes, King Egon." The mouse soldiers shivered as they quickly knelt in unison. King Egon thrust his sword in the air above his head. "We are on our way to the Ice Palace. Nordika thinks her army can protect Dustin and that young girl. Can she protect them?" Egon said with an evil laugh. The mouse soldiers said nothing. They hung their heads low. "You!" Egon hollered as he pointed to one of the mouse soldiers up front. All heads immediately turned. Some mice could be heard sighing with relief. Egon was not speaking to them. The soldier Egon pointed out quickly ran forward. Directly in front of Egon, he knelt down on one knee and bowed his head. "Yes, King Egon," he said meekly, almost in a whisper. Tears could be seen welling up in the soldier's eyes. "I remember you from our last battle," Egon continued as he walked from side to side with his head held high. The poor mouse soldier softly responded, "Yes." "Stand and look behind you!" Egon ordered while he rammed his sword into its holster. The mouse soldier jumped up and looked at the rows of mouse soldiers still kneeling with their faces partly lowered. "Now, tell me what you see." The mouse soldier looked perplexed and gulped. In a shrill and confused voice, he responded, "Mouse soldiers?" Egon walked from left to right and templed his sharp claws, tapping them together in front of his chest. "Yes, mouse soldiers," he affirmed in a commanding low voice. "And none of those faces will be here tomorrow if we don't get that girl and Dustin by the stroke of the next hour." Egon then charged forward. The mouse soldiers followed quickly behind him. Their long tails swished from side to side, leaving marks in the snow.

Book Black Magic

Download or read book Black Magic written by Chad Sanders and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A “daring, urgent, and transformative” (Brené Brown, New York Times bestselling author of Dare to Lead) exploration of Black achievement in a white world based on honest, provocative, and moving interviews with Black leaders, scientists, artists, activists, and champions. “I remember the day I realized I couldn’t play a white guy as well as a white guy. It felt like a death sentence for my career.” When Chad Sanders landed his first job in lily-white Silicon Valley, he quickly concluded that to be successful at work meant playing a certain social game. Each meeting was drenched in white slang and the privileged talk of international travel or folk concerts in San Francisco, which led Chad to believe he needed to emulate whiteness to be successful. So Chad changed. He changed his wardrobe, his behavior, his speech—everything that connected him with his Black identity. And while he finally felt included, he felt awful. So he decided to give up the charade. He reverted to the methods he learned at the dinner table, or at the Black Baptist church where he’d been raised, or at the concrete basketball courts, barbershops, and summertime cookouts. And it paid off. Chad began to land more exciting projects. He earned the respect of his colleagues. Accounting for this turnaround, Chad believes, was something he calls Black Magic, namely resilience, creativity, and confidence forged in his experience navigating America as a Black man. Black Magic has emboldened his every step since, leading him to wonder: Was he alone in this discovery? Were there others who felt the same? In “pulverizing, educational, and inspirational” (Shea Serrano, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Basketball (And Other Things)) essays, Chad dives into his formative experiences to see if they might offer the possibility of discovering or honing this skill. He tests his theory by interviewing Black leaders across industries to get their take on Black Magic. The result is a revelatory and essential book. Black Magic explores Black experiences in predominantly white environments and demonstrates the risks of self-betrayal and the value of being yourself.
