Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An 1895 Ghost Town in the Mojave Desert with a Mysterious dark past, and Secrets Hidden. After 3 years research I’ve discovered some incredible stories of many people who built this town, their success, their tragedies and secrets about the forgotten people that once ruled this Booming Gold Mining town called Randsburg in 1890’s. Established 1895 Randsburg was the fastest growing Gold Mine town in Southern California. Today Randsburg is an active Living Ghost tourist town. But do the Ghost of the past still walk the streets today? Did I hear the Ghost People talking at 3am on Halloween 2021? What does the First Insane Asylum of Southern California in 1893, have to do with Randsburg? What is that connection to a wild west town? Who was the Real “French Madame Marguerite Roberts” and what secrets did she hide? Did I capture the Ghost of Madame Marguerite in her Red-Light District cabin alone on Halloween? What was it like to Co-Host the first Live Halloween Ghost Event in a Real Ghost town? Did a ghost roll a ball in front of live audience that chilly night Halloween 2019? Did we also capture Ghost Dancing on Camera in the 1897 in the 1897 Dance Hall Saloon? Who still performs on stage in Ghost Town Opera House? Is Cowboy Bob still siting in his chair in the General Store? What the heck went horribly wrong on the bed in the Cottage Inn Hotel? Extensive back breaking research to uncover many Secrets now revealed of the people who came here to start a new. Amazing stories many made fortunes, some had tragedies but now they are all in the history books to live on forever in the Historical Randsburg California. Join me on my adventure to see what really happened back in the Cowboy Gold mining Town of the Wild West and the people who made it shine.

Take a step back in time and live the Old West! This old mining town has a lot of tales to tell, some of which you will find in the pages of this book. See where Billy Bob Thornton made his supporting speaking role debut in the movie "Chopper Chicks in Zombietown." After months of thorough research I reveal the true identity of Randsburg's most famous red-light madam, French Marguerite. Book Southern California s Best Ghost Towns

Download or read book Southern California s Best Ghost Towns written by Philip Varney and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 1994-03-01 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ghost towns of Southern California-some dramatic and nearly intact, others devastated-are well worth visiting. Most are remnants of once-colorful mining towns, though there are also railroad towns, a World War II relocation center, a promoter's swindle, and a failed socialist colony. Some excellent attractions remain. One of the best-preserved stamp mills in the West is in Skidoo. Smelters, homes, stores, and the remarkable wooden American Hotel can be found in Cerro Gordo, which the author calls "California's best true ghost town." Seasoned back-roads traveler Philip Varney, who has visited nearly a hundred ghost towns in the area, provides a down-to-earth and helpful guide to more than sixty of the best in Southern California and nearby Inyo and Kern counties. He defines a ghost town as a town with a population markedly decreased from its peak, one whose initial reason for settlement no longer keeps people there. It can be completely deserted, have a resident or two, or retain genuine signs of vitality, but Varney has eliminated those towns he considers either too populated or too empty of significant remains. The sites are grouped in four chapters in Inyo County, Death Valley, the Mojave Desert and Kern River, and the regions surrounding Los Angeles and San Diego. Each chapter provides a map of the region, a ranking of sites as "major," "secondary," and "minor," information on road conditions, trip suggestions, and tips on the use of particular topographic maps for readers interested in more detailed exploration. Each entry includes directions to a town, a brief history of that town, and notes on its special points of interest. Current photographs provide a valuable record of the sometimes fragile sites. Southern California's Best Ghost Towns will be welcomed both by those who enjoy traveling off the beaten path and by those who enjoy the history of the American West.

It contains a multitude of stories never heard in public before, including an entire chapter dedicated to the eerie and unexplainable events experienced by tour guides while conducting their tours for the Ghosts of Gettysburg Candlelight Walking Tours. The first volume in the "Ghosts of Gettysburg" book series was released in October 1991. Mr. Nesbitt started collecting ghost stories from Gettysburg in the early 1960s. In the 1970s, he worked as a Park Ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park and was assigned to live in some of the historic houses on the Park. His collection of ghost stories grew. As long as visitors to the Gettysburg area continue to share their "ghostly" experiences, Mr. Nesbitt will continue to add to the "Ghosts of Gettysburg" book series.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Told in alternating points of view between the living and the dead, Jessica Hamilton's debut novel will be perfect for fans of The Lovely Bones. Idyllic Avril lsland, owned by the Bennett family, where their hundred-year-old cottage sat nestled in acres of forest. Forty-year-old June Bennett believed that the island had been sold after the summer of her father's disappearance when she was only twelve years old. It's months after the shocking death of her older sister May in a fatal car accident, that June finds out that the cottage was never sold. Avril Island is still owned by the Bennett family and now it's hers. Still reeling from the grief of losing her sister, June travels back to Avril lsland in search of answers. As she digs, she learns that the townspeople believe her father may in fact have been murdered rather than having abandoned his family in the dead of night, as she was led to believe by her mother. And that's when she begins to notice strange things happening on the island--missing family possessions showing up, doors locking on their own, unexplained noises in the night, shadowy figures disappearing into the woods. It takes June no time at all to realize that her childhood summers at Avril Island were not at all what they had seemed to be.
