Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cytodifferentiation and Macromolecular Synthesis focuses on research on biosynthesis, structure, and morphology of cells. The book first discusses cytodifferentiation and macromolecular synthesis and genetic control of protein structure. The relationship of amino acid substitutions to the genetic code; comparison of gene and protein alterations; and suppressor mutations are described. The text also looks at genetic repression, allosteric inhibition, and cellular differentiation; epigenetic control of protein synthesis in cells; quantitative studies of protein synthesis in embryonic tissues; and chromosomes and cytodifferentiation. The book also discusses the morphological and chemical differentiation of plastids. The effect of light on plastid development; structure of mature chloroplast; morphological changes in the development of proplastid to the chloroplast; and inheritable factors that control plastids are described. The text also focuses on the collagen system, mechanisms of elongation, and tissue interaction and metabolic responses. The book is a valuable reference for readers wanting to conduct research on the complex nature of cells.

Book Biological Regulation and Development

Download or read book Biological Regulation and Development written by Robert F. Goldberger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The motivation for us to conceive this series of volumes on regulation was mainly our belief that it would be fun, and at the same time productive, to approach the subject in a way that differs from that of other treatises. We thought it might be interesting and instructive for both author and reader-to examine a particular area of investigation in a framework of many different problems. Cutting across the traditional boundaries that have separated the subjects in past volumes on regulation is not an easy thing to do-not because it is difficult to think of what interesting topics should replace the old ones, but because it is difficult to find authors who are willing to write about areas outside those pursued in their own laboratories. Anyone who takes on the task of reviewing a broad area of interest must weave together its various parts by picking up the threads from many different laboratories, and attempt to produce a fabric with a meaningful design. Finding persons who are likely to succeed in such a task was the most difficult part of our job. In the first volume of this treatise, most of the chapters dealt with the mechanisms of The second volume involved a somewhat regulation of gene expression in microorganisms. broader area, spanning the prokaryotic-eukaryotic border. Topics ranged from phage mor phogenesis to the role of gradients in development. The last volume-Volume 3A-con cerned hormones, as does this volume-Volume 3B.

Book Bacterial Endotoxic Lipopolysaccharides

Download or read book Bacterial Endotoxic Lipopolysaccharides written by David C. Morrison and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-08-05 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bacterial Endotoxic Lipopolysaccharides provides an up-to-date, two-volume review of the latest information regarding bacterial lipopolysaccharide structure and activities. These volumes cover the biochemistry, pharmacology, and pathophysiologic properties of endotoxins. The volumes also thoroughly discuss the strengths and weaknesses of new therapies for septic shock that are based on an immunological attack on endotoxins and the cytokines induced by endotoxins. All scientists involved in endotoxin research, clinical infectious disease specialists, and medical students interested in the pathogenesis of septic shock will find Bacterial Endotoxic Lipopolysaccharides invaluable as a reference resource.

Book Brenner s Encyclopedia of Genetics

Download or read book Brenner s Encyclopedia of Genetics written by Stanley Maloy and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-03-03 with total page 4360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The explosion of the field of genetics over the last decade, with the new technologies that have stimulated research, suggests that a new sort of reference work is needed to keep pace with such a fast-moving and interdisciplinary field. Brenner's Encyclopedia of Genetics, Second Edition, Seven Volume Set, builds on the foundation of the first edition by addressing many of the key subfields of genetics that were just in their infancy when the first edition was published. The currency and accessibility of this foundational content will be unrivalled, making this work useful for scientists and non-scientists alike. Featuring relatively short entries on genetics topics written by experts in that topic, Brenner's Encyclopedia of Genetics, Second Edition, Seven Volume Set provides an effective way to quickly learn about any aspect of genetics, from Abortive Transduction to Zygotes. Adding to its utility, the work provides short entries that briefly define key terms, and a guide to additional reading and relevant websites for further study. Many of the entries include figures to explain difficult concepts. Key terms in related areas such as biochemistry, cell, and molecular biology are also included, and there are entries that describe historical figures in genetics, providing insights into their careers and discoveries. This 7-volume set represents a 25% expansion from the first edition, with over 1600 articles encompassing this burgeoning field Thoroughly up-to-date, with many new topics and subfields covered that were in their infancy or not inexistence at the time of the first edition. Timely coverage of emergent areas such as epigenetics, personalized genomic medicine, pharmacogenetics, and genetic enhancement technologies Interdisciplinary and global in its outlook, as befits the field of genetics Brief articles, written by experts in the field, which not only discuss, define, and explain key elements of the field, but also provide definition of key terms, suggestions for further reading, and biographical sketches of the key people in the history of genetics
