Civil service reform is critical to improve the delivery of public services and to ensure the medium-term viability of the fiscal program. The IMF staff welcomed the implementation of the first round of tariff restructuring that has reduced the number of tariff bands to four, and the maximum tariff rate to 35 percent.

Book Cambodia Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper Progress Report

Download or read book Cambodia Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper Progress Report written by International Monetary Fund and published by INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND. This book was released on 2004-10-22 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines Cambodia's Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper Progress. The Cambodian economy grew by 5.2 percent in 2003 compared with 5.5 percent in 2002, led by continued growth in garments exports, a rebound in overall investments and an upward surge in agricultural production. The drop in foreign direct investment has been more than compensated by domestic private investment and higher consumption induced by higher public spending. Moreover, the weakness in the service sector receipts has been offset by continued strong growth in garments exports.

Book Cambodian Economy

Download or read book Cambodian Economy written by Hang Chuon Naron and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 2011 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This monumental study, by arguably the most respected economic policymaker in the Cambodian government over the past decade, is a very welcome addition to the sparse literature on the Cambodian economy. It is destined to become the standard reference on economic development in post-conflict Cambodia. The volume's 25 chapters are grouped into nine sections: geography and population, the macroeconomic framework, the challenge of modernising agriculture, the challenge of industrialisation, services and infrastructure, human resource development, international economic relations and a conclusion. The content is encyclopaedic, with an immense amount of detail on practically every conceivable aspect of the country's development. Dr Naron is to be congratulated for fitting this admirable project into his extremely demanding 'daytime' job as the secretary of state in the Ministry of Economy and Finance, along with many other responsibilities. Among the many reasons to welcome its publication is its authentic Cambodian voice and perspective in a literature dominated by foreign researchers. A generation of scholars on the Cambodian economy and all those with an interest in the country are in his debt" (Asian-Pacific Economic Literature).

Book A Poverty Profile of Cambodia

Download or read book A Poverty Profile of Cambodia written by Nicholas M. Prescott and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China is in the throes of two transitions: from a command economy to a market-based one and from a rural, agricultural society to an urban, industrial one. So far, both transitions have been spectacularly successful. China is the fastest-growing economy in the world, with per capita incomes more than quadrupling since 1978, achieving in two generations what took other countries centuries. Although swift growth and structural change have resolved many problems, they also have created new challenges: employment insecurity, growing inequality, stubborn poverty, mounting environmental pressures, rising costs of food self-sufficiency, and periods of macroeconomic instability stemming from incomplete reforms. Unmet, these challenges could undermine the sustainability of growth, and China's promise could fade. China 2020, a seven-volume set, examines China's recent history, where it is today, and the path it should follow during the first two decades of the 21st century. The volume in the set entitled, Financing Health Care: Issues and Options for China assesses the state of health care in China and addresses the problems facing the sector in terms of financial access to health care, efficiency, and total cost. Although the health sector is in relatively good condition today, this study asserts the need to promptly make policy changes to ensure universal health care coverage by either the public or the private sector over the next two decades. Chapters focus on the effects of reduced public health spending on rural populations, the likely increase in health costs as the population ages, the harmful effects of tobacco use, and fee-for-service provider systems.
