Book Lunch Box Bully

Download or read book Lunch Box Bully written by Hans Wilhelm and published by Holiday House. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Max outwits a bully and makes a new friend in this Level F book, perfect for first-grade readers. Big Bob is a bully who takes Max's lunch every day. Max's friends try to help him deal with it. "Don't look at him," says one friend-- but Big Bob takes Max's sandwich anyway. "Give him a gift," suggests another friend. Max gives Big Bob a lemon ice, but the bully doesn't like lemon-- so he squashes it on Max's head. Clever Max figures out a way to outwit Big Bob, and starts bringing lemon-flavored lunches. And once his lunches are safe, Max reaches out to Big Bob in friendship. Soon all of the children enjoy lunch together! This easy-to-read story includes extra material for both kids and adults on dealing with bullies-- a list of Do's and Don'ts for young readers, and a list of anti-bullying resources for grown-ups. This book has been officially leveled by using the F&P Text Level Gradient(TM) Leveling System. The award-winning I Like to Read series features guided reading levels A through G, based upon Fountas and Pinnell standards. Acclaimed author-illustrators--including winners of Caldecott, Theodor Seuss Geisel, and Coretta Scott King honors--create original, high-quality illustrations that support comprehension of simple text and are fun for kids to read again and again with their parents, teachers or on their own! Level F books, for early first graders, feature longer, more varied sentences than Level E. Level F books encourage kids to decode new multi-syllable words in addition to recognizing sight words. Stories are more complex, and illustrations provide support and additional detail. When Level F is mastered, follow up with Level G.

Book excerpt: "A practical book to help parents communicate with their children and show how much they care through notes and letters. The book includes the authors' experiences, encouragement to parents to start, sample letters, and 100 colorful tear out sheets. Children are subjected to great stress and anxiety while growing up in a dangerous and fast changing world. Parents struggle too, especially to find ways to communicate with their children and to show how much they care. This practical and valuable little book presents a proven method of staying in touch with your children throughout their school years. Lunch Box Letters is the result of the experience of two parents who--separately--wrote notes to their children on a regular basis and were immensely encouraged by the results. Now they show how you can use their successful method to communicate with your own kids. They provide sample letters to let you see just how simple these little notes are to write--and how important they are to both parent and child. They also answer common questions that parents raise, such as 'Where do I find the time?' 'What if I have three kids?' or 'What if I'm a lousy speller?'"--

  • Author : Richard Mercer Dorson
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press
  • Release : 1981
  • ISBN : 9780674508552

Download or read book Land of the Millrats written by Richard Mercer Dorson and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1981 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of Richard Dorson's thirty years as folklorist have been spent collecting tales and legends in the remote backcountry, far from the centers of population. For this book he extended his search for folk traditions to one of the most heavily industrialized sections of the United States. Can folklore be found, he wondered, in the Calumet Region of northwest Indiana? Does it exist among the steelworkers, ethnic groups, and blacks in Gary, Whiting, East Chicago, and Hammond? In his usual entertaining style, Dorson shows that a rich and varied folklore exists in the Region. Although it differs from that of rural people, it is equally vital. Much of this urban lore finds expression in conversational anecdotes and stories that deal with pressing issues: the flight from the inner city, crime in the streets, working conditions in the steel mills, the maintenance of ethnic identity, the place of blacks in a predominantly white society. The folklore reveals strongly held attitudes such as the loathing of industrial work, resistance to assimilation, and black adoption of middle-class-white values. Miliworkers and mill executives, housewives, ethnic performers, storekeepers, and preachers tell their stories about the Region. The concerns that occupy them affect city dwellers throughout the United States. Land of the Millrats, though it depicts a special place, speaks for much of America.
