Book excerpt: The Lotus Flower is a collection of poetry about healing; mother nature; love; relationships; spirituality; religion; depression amongst many other subjects. The Lotus Flower stays close to mother nature throughout. The poems were written in order to heal from mental health illness and gain a new life of spirituality and wisdom. The poetry depicts life in its minute form and brings small things to life. The poetry is written from a feminist point of view covering many areas of femininity and mother nature. Beginning with the poem 'My Brand New Book, ' shows my second chance in life of writing and living, still staying natural to my environment and my experiences. As the poems develop and come out of their shell I write about depresssion and relationships, asking the question: Who am I ? continuously. The title is inspired from the poem 'About Ancestor Voices' and it was after this poem my poetry was growing into another dimension, especially the lines: ' The lakes are laid with the Lotus, As they have fought from the depths of waters', Carrying hope, light and purity in their shield like petals.'The poetry develops into 'My World' and 'A Poetess Grows' showing the development in the poetry reflecting life. As it develops I express the importance of childhood and religion. As identity in finding life back is explored I return to religion and back to nature. After writing 'The Phoenix' the poetry expresses love and resurrection and how much we can learn from mother nature.

Book excerpt: Nelumbo nucifera, more often known as the lotus flower, is a beautiful aquatic plant that has significant cultural meaning in many different traditions. Lotus flowers have been included in religious texts, artwork, and literature for ages due to their enduring popularity and symbolic significance. The lotus flower is endemic to Asia, specifically the subcontinents of India, China, and Japan. It does best in ponds, lakes, and slow-moving rivers with a shallow water depth. This perennial plant floats on the water's surface with its large, spherical leaves, and its beautiful flowers rise above the leaves on tall stalks. The lotus flower's ability to flourish despite its origin in dirty water is one of its most alluring features. Because of this, the lotus has come to symbolize enlightenment, spiritual awakening, and purity in a wide variety of civilizations around the world. The lotus is a potent symbol of triumph over adversity and openness to development. Lotus flowers are renowned for their stunning beauty and are available in a rainbow of colors. The layers of petals on the blooms are often rather elaborate, making for a stunning appearance. They attract many species of pollinators, including bees and butterflies, because to the enticing scent they give out. The lotus flower is revered for more than just its beauty and symbolism; it also has significant therapeutic value. All components of the lotus plant, from seeds to leaves to rhizomes, are put to use in ancient medical practices including Ayurveda and ancient Chinese Medicine. Diseases of the digestive system, the respiratory system, and the mind are all included. The lotus plant is significant for the environment in addition to its cultural and therapeutic value. Its large leaves cast a protective canopy over the water, lowering the temperature and preventing algal blooms by blocking the sun. The plant also provides food and shelter for many different kinds of aquatic life, which helps maintain ecological harmony. In sum, the lotus flower plant is a fascinating and versatile species thanks to its spiritual meaning, aesthetic value, and therapeutic uses. It is a fascinating and treasured botanical marvel because of its existence in many civilizations and its resilience in the face of adversity.

Book excerpt: Emotional photographs from the Far East to discover a product of excellence. The latest textile treasure discovered by Loro Piana grows in the waters of Inle Lake in eastern Myanmar: the fibre of the lotus flower. This extraordinary raw material of vegetable origin is obtained from the aquatic plant that was sacred to the Buddha. The Intha people, "children of the lake", use ancient techniques passed down across generations to work the fibres into a very fine thread exclusively by hand. In six chapters of photographs, the volume leads the reader through the magic hills of the Shan plateau and among lake pile-dwellings, where the slow rhythm of a timeless existence in total harmony with nature is measured out in the harvesting of the lotus, the catching of fish and the cultivation of fruits and vegetables in floating gardens. Every year during the rainy season, the Intha harvest the stems of the lotus flower and extract the fibres that will be spun into thread, just over a hundred grams in a full day's work, performed according to the slow rhythm of tradition, which now may become a source of livelihood for future populations as well.
