Book The Rose and the Lotus

Download or read book The Rose and the Lotus written by Yousef Daoud and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-10-31 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rose and the Lotus is a compendium of explorations of two of the world's largest wisdom traditions, Sufism and Buddhism, and what the practitioners of these two approaches have in common and may have to learn from each other. It includes chapters on important teaching texts, ancient and modern and the clues they give for practice, interviews with esteemed teachers such as Shaikh Kabir Helminski, Roshi Bernie Glassman, Tibetan philosopher Geshe Sonam Rinchen, as well as memories and reflections on teachers such as Javad Nurbakhsh, Idries Shah, and Inayat Khan. It includes a new look at the mystic works of Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing and their usefulness in contemplation practice. Yousef Daoud PhD, also published as Joe Martin, has been a practitioner of both Sufism and Buddhism. The author of eight books, he teaches meditation as well as spiritual performance practice. Though Sufism and Buddhism have long been treated as religious manifestations, in this fascinating book, Yousef Daoud (Joe) Martin places them squarely among the great wisdom traditions and explores a wide variety of topics relating to both Sufism and Buddhism. One of the most prolific authors for the journal "SUFI", he has done a real service for anyone concerned with spirituality and gnosis. -- Professor Jeffrey Rothschild, C.U.N.Y., Editor, SUFI On Rumi's MATHNAVI: A Stage Adaptation "Absolutely remarkable and memorable! It was as if I had gone to a party, and had been offered an entire pot of gourmet food ... but with every new bite I felt even hungrier [It] was endowed with a complex simplicity or a simple complexity! It was all very inspiring and enlightening ... It felt as if the actors analyzed Rumi's stories, lifting the veils one after another." --- Lida Saeedian, Author and co- translator of The Pocket Rumi On Parabola: Shorter Fictions "...through the tightly structured geometry of this metaphorically rich [work is] recognition of the search we undertake to fix a place for ourselves ... and try to make sense of a confusing, alienating and often combative world." Book excerpt: Raja Rao, one of the founding figures of Indian English literature, is re-examined in this comprehensive study of his fiction, which offers a fresh critical investigation into both his short stories and his novels. Powerfully contradicting the long-held perception of Raja Rao as a mere metaphysical writer and the true bard of quintessential Indianness, projected by many critics of the first Commonwealth generation over three decades, Stefano Mercanti posits Rao's fiction in terms of its dialogic interaction - the 'partnership' - between Western and Eastern cultural traditions and demonstrates how it evolves during the course of his oeuvre on both the philosophical and the political level. The title, The Rose and the Lotus, signals the discursive terrain for a multicultural and interwoven evolution among different cultures, and points to the need for valuing relations of reciprocity rather than those of domination. Far from conveying univocal configurations and nationalistic stereotypes, Rao's idea of India is seen as the epicentre of many echoes and dynamic resonances, both Western and Eastern, through which a distinct blend of Indian and European influences is more clearly unravelled. In this new critical re-appraisal, Mercanti draws on non-binary and inter/multi-disciplinary paradigms, thus signalling the complex transformations and multiple negotiations of a polyglot India caught between the cultural twilight of the modern and the traditional. The study also offers an invaluable linguistic analysis of Rao's experiment with the English language, supplemented by a detailed glossary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human experience can be truly divine or a living hell and we are responsible for our own living Heaven or Hell. All life is systems, which today is a great awakening of the West of understanding everything within its systems, may it be Medical, Political, Economic or Commerce. Nature is one of the most organized systems and has inspired Literature, Art and Music for centuries. The Lotus, The Rose, The Lily looks at these three beautiful flowers which have inspired and are a big part of Religion, Spirituality and Cultures for the meaning of an enlightened life. Nature is one of the greatest teachers and here you see its significance with philosophy and psychology and the metaphors from these three beautiful flowers for an enlightened life. The primary realization through nature is best summarized by a Zen Master that there is really no one there to be enlightened! In light of this realization we come to realize what really is enlightened is really nature and life which we mistakenly take credit for ourselves. Individual self-valorization is amongst the lowest consciousness of man and we understand that when we do an inquiry on whom we really are. Here is a book for anybody who wants to get a deeper meaning from life, making it purposeful and divine, as it is in our hands how we choose to see reality. There are never the right circumstances or situations for a better life but how we choose to wire our consciousness.

David Zachary, a United States Department of State foreign service officer stationed in Washington, D.C., begins to perceive sinister motives in China’s slow but steady insinuation into much of the Western Hemisphere. His growing knowledge of China’s secret intentions is buttressed by information uncovered by Mei Lin Kwan, a young Chinese-born reporter for the Washington Gazette. Together they discover more than they should and soon find themselves directly in the middle of events which could severely disrupt Chinese-American relations and cause an upheaval in global politics and economics. Book excerpt: The Lotus Flower is a collection of poetry about healing; mother nature; love; relationships; spirituality; religion; depression amongst many other subjects. The Lotus Flower stays close to mother nature throughout. The poems were written in order to heal from mental health illness and gain a new life of spirituality and wisdom. The poetry depicts life in its minute form and brings small things to life. The poetry is written from a feminist point of view covering many areas of femininity and mother nature. Beginning with the poem 'My Brand New Book, ' shows my second chance in life of writing and living, still staying natural to my environment and my experiences. As the poems develop and come out of their shell I write about depresssion and relationships, asking the question: Who am I ? continuously. The title is inspired from the poem 'About Ancestor Voices' and it was after this poem my poetry was growing into another dimension, especially the lines: ' The lakes are laid with the Lotus, As they have fought from the depths of waters', Carrying hope, light and purity in their shield like petals.'The poetry develops into 'My World' and 'A Poetess Grows' showing the development in the poetry reflecting life. As it develops I express the importance of childhood and religion. As identity in finding life back is explored I return to religion and back to nature. After writing 'The Phoenix' the poetry expresses love and resurrection and how much we can learn from mother nature.
