Book excerpt: Some will be troubled with what is written by this scribe. The confusion is really the question as to why would anyone challenge the status quo? The greater concern here ought to be bringing out the particulars regarding the hidden activities being done to segments of society that would incense and be of great concern by the greater percentages of reasonable sentients. By being out of sight, the aim is to retain power by feudal lords. The concern by every sentient ought to be that no atrocities of any kind will be allowed or be promoted by any sector of the societal domain. The conclusion will be that all feudal (elite) systems must expire and be promoted no more. We have the capacity to make optimum decisions for ourselves. To resign to an inferior construct will result in greatly diminished sentient promoting developmental environments. The object of this book is to provide a starting point to ultimately provide a comprehensive reference instrument that completely encompasses, with minor revisions over time, the entire subject matter pertaining to the title of this book. Historical and contemporary examples and references are included to assist the reader's understanding of this body of work.

  • Publisher : Oxford University Press

Download or read book Cowboy Christians written by Marie W. Dallam and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cowboy Christians examines the long history of cowboy Christianity in the American West, with a focus on the present-day cowboy church movement. Based on five years of historical and sociological fieldwork in cowboy Christian communities, this book draws on interviews with leaders of cowboy churches, traveling rodeo ministries, and chaplains who serve horse racing and bull riding communities, along with the author's first-hand experiences as a participant observer. Marie W. Dallam traces cowboy Christianity from the postbellum period into the twenty-first century, looking at religious life among cowboys on the range as well as its representation in popular imagery and the media. She examines the structure, theology, and perpetuation of the modern cowboy church, and speculates on future challenges the institution may face, such as the relegation of women to subordinate participant roles at a time of increasing gender equality in the larger society. She also explores the cowboy Christian proclivity for blending the secular and the sacred in leisure environments like arenas, racetracks, and rodeos. Dallam locates the modern cowboy church as a descendant of the muscular Christianity movement, the Jesus movement, and new paradigm church methodology. Cowboy Christians establishes the religious significance of the cowboy church movement, particularly relative to twenty-first-century evangelical Protestantism, and contributes to a deeper understanding of the unique Christianity of the American West.

Book The Log of the Cowboy and Other Trail Tales 5 Western Novels in One Volume

Download or read book The Log of the Cowboy and Other Trail Tales 5 Western Novels in One Volume written by Andy Adams and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2024-01-16 with total page 1304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Log of a Cowboy" is an account of a five-month drive of 3,000 cattle from Brownsville, Texas, to Montana during 1882 along the Great Western Cattle Trail. Although the book is fiction, it is based on Adams's own experiences, and it is considered by many to be literature's best account of cowboy life. Adams was disgusted by the unrealistic cowboy fiction being published in his time; The Log of a Cowboy was his response. The Chicago Herald has said: "As a narrative of cowboy life, Andy Adams' book is clearly the real thing. It carries its own certificate of authentic first-hand experience on every page." This edition also includes Adams other famous western novels like The Outlet, A Texas Matchmaker, Reed Anthony, Cowman and The Wells Brothers. Andy Adams (1859–1935) was an American writer of western fiction and was born in Indiana. Since childhood Andy used to help his parents with the cattle and horses on the family farm. Due to this Andy's works have been lauded widely for his first hand and authentic portrayal of the life of a cowboy unlike his contemporaries like Owen Wister who romanticized it.
