Book Long Term Implications of the 2012 Future Years Defense Program

Download or read book Long Term Implications of the 2012 Future Years Defense Program written by David E. Mosher and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In most years, the Department of Defense (DoD) provides a five- or six-year plan, called the Future Years Defense Program (FYDP), associated with the budget that it submits to the Congress. Because decisions made in the near term can have consequences for the defense budget well beyond that period, the the programs and plans contained in DoD's FYDP have been examined and their budgetary impact in subsequent years has been projected. For this analysis, the FYDP provided to the Congress in April 2011was used, which covers fiscal years 2012 to 2016. The projections span the years 2012 to 2030. Charts and tables. This is a print on demand edition of an important, hard-to-find report.

Book excerpt: This book reviews the performance and effectiveness of the Community Development Quotas (CDQ) programs that were formed as a result of the Sustainable Fisheries Act of 1996. The book looks at those Alaskan fisheries that have experience with CDQs, such as halibut, pollock, sablefish, and crab, and comments on the extent to which the programs have met their objectivesâ€"helping communities develop ongoing commercial fishing and processing activities, creating employment opportunities, and providing capital for investment in fishing, processing, and support projects such as infrastructure. Book The Life We Are Given

Download or read book The Life We Are Given written by George Leonard and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2005-10-20 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of The Future of the Body and the author of Mastery team up to present a proven method for reaching the next stage of human development. Can people with the time-and energy-consuming concerns of job and family find a way to transform their lives through a regular, long-term program of body/mind/spirit development? Is it possible, through conscious choice, to participate in the next step of human evolution? Two of the most distinguished theorists and teachers of human transformation believe the answer to these questions is yes. In this inspiring and practical book, George Leonard and Michael Murphy offer a comprehensive program of Integral Transformative Practice (ITP) based on a two-year experimental class that grew out of their lifework. Drawing upon some seventy years of combined experience in the study of human potential, along with the significant findings of their recent experiment, they present step-by-step instructions for joining body, mind, heart, and soul in an evolutionary adventure that has powerful personal and social implications. Their message will be especially refreshing to those who have become disillusioned by promises of immediate gratification, instant learning, and effortless enlightenment. This book shows the way to profound and lasting transformation through long-term practice. It celebrates the day-by-day joys of the path while opening fresh vistas to human futures.

Book Using Science to Improve the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program

Download or read book Using Science to Improve the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program written by Committee to Review the Bureau of Land Management Wild Horse and Burro Management Program and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-09-18 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using Science to Improve the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program: A Way Forward reviews the science that underpins the Bureau of Land Management's oversight of free-ranging horses and burros on federal public lands in the western United States, concluding that constructive changes could be implemented. The Wild Horse and Burro Program has not used scientifically rigorous methods to estimate the population sizes of horses and burros, to model the effects of management actions on the animals, or to assess the availability and use of forage on rangelands. Evidence suggests that horse populations are growing by 15 to 20 percent each year, a level that is unsustainable for maintaining healthy horse populations as well as healthy ecosystems. Promising fertility-control methods are available to help limit this population growth, however. In addition, science-based methods exist for improving population estimates, predicting the effects of management practices in order to maintain genetically diverse, healthy populations, and estimating the productivity of rangelands. Greater transparency in how science-based methods are used to inform management decisions may help increase public confidence in the Wild Horse and Burro Program.
