Download or read book The Livestock and Meat Situation Vol 77 written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 77: May 1955 Cattle production trends are virtually at a standstill, though the 10 percent more cows slaughtered in january-march this year than last suggests the possibility that a moderate downtrend in the cattle inventory may be commencing. But cattle feeding is at all-time record' volume, having increased in response to favorable price margins realized in 195h. Under influence of large marketings, prices of fed cattle will average lower the rest of the spring than in February to April. A sea sonal strengthening is likely later in the summer. Prices of cattle off grass will likely decline seasonally during the summer. The usual summer decline in prices of lambs is in prospect, but it probably will be less severe than last summer. Download or read book The Livestock and Meat Situation Vol 31 written by U. S. Bureau Of Agricultural Economics and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 31: September, 1949 September less meat is likely to be sold from storage than in the compa rable month of 1948. Supplies of beef the rest of this year will be influenced on the one hand by the prospective larger number of grain-fed cattle, and on the other hand by the fewer grass cattle, that will be slaughtered this year compared'with last. More cattle have been fed this year than in 1948; on August 1, the increase in the number on feed in the Corn Belt was 24 per cent. Consequently, slaughter of grain-fed cattle this fall will exceed that of last year. How many grass cattle will go to slaughter will be governed mainly by the number of cattle put into feed lots, since sale of twe-way cattle as feeders removes them.from.the immediate supply for slaughter. The most likely prospect is that eattle slaughter will have less of a seasonal peak this fall than usual and that the total number slaughtered in the last months of the year will be slightly smaller'than in the same neriod of 1948. Since weights per head.will be beatier, beef production may be as large or slightly larger than in late 1948. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 59: March-April 1952 Prospects for the next two or three months are for seasonally rising prices for all meat animals except the higher grades of cattle, which may decline at the time of peak marketings this spring. Prices of cattle and lambs seem likely to remain below last year, but prices of hogs may rise to or above the same months of 1951. Download or read book Livestock and Meat Situation Vol 216 written by U. S. Economic Research Service and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 216: Aug. 1977 Continuing large supplies of red meat and poultry will probably prevent any large year-to-year increases in beef and pork prices this year. However, with higher consumer incomes and narrow marketing margins, particularly for pork, some increases in retail beef and pork prices are likely. The retail price of Choice grade beef is expected to rise gradually through the remainder of 1977, with the second half averaging 4 to 5 percent above both year-earlier and first half prices. A widening of the pork marketing spread from current low levels and higher hog prices this fall than last will largely offset the seasonal decline ioi market hog prices - resulting in second half retail pork prices 4 to 5 percent higher than a year earlier. This level of retail pork prices would be about 10 percent above the first half 1977 average. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 47: January, 1951 Reports on numbers of cattle on feed and of hogs to be raised point to a moderate increase in meat production for 1951 compared with 1950. On January 1 a record number of cattle were on feed 5 percent more than last year, There were 2 percent more on feed in the Corn Belt this year than last and 15 percent more in the western States. However, the numbers on feed January 1 included an unusually large proportion of cattle of light weight, which will not reach market until late in the year. Book The Livestock and Meat Situation Vol 114

Download or read book The Livestock and Meat Situation Vol 114 written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-28 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 114: January 1961 Market supplies of fed cattle this winter probably will be a little larger than last, but grass cattle will provide much of the expected increase in total cattle slaughter. The number of cattle and calves on feed October 1, 1960, in 26 feeding States was only 1 percent larger than October 1959. Since then, marketings of fed steers and heifers have been down slightly. Feeder cattle sales and shipments indicate the number placed on feed since October l was probably about the same as last fall. Hence, the number of cattle and calves on feed January 1 will likely be close to last January. This winter, cattle prices-including fed cattle -will likely continue close to or a little above current prices. Download or read book The Livestock and Meat Situation Vol 91 written by U. S. Agricultural Marketing Service and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 91: August 1957 If general economic factors affecting cattle remain about as in 1957, numbers might not decrease as long or as far as usual. The low point might come in 1959 or 1960, and at around 92 million head. This is an estimate built on year-to-year projections of cow numbers, calf cr0p and slaughter rate, summary data for which are in table 6. A reduction in cattle inventories begins when prices (current and prospective) are unprofitably low relative to the factors involved in produc tion. Range and feed conditions, costs of purchased feeds, other cost rates, and the availability and cost of financing. Similarly, numbers are built up again when the price outlook is favorable relative to those factors. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 30: August 1949 When more cattle are grain fed, for market rather than slaughtered off range or pasture, their average weight is increased and the beef pro duced is of a higher grade. The increased grain feeding in 1949 shows up particularly in the larger number and heavier weights of steers slaughtered. In the first 6 months, 20 percent more steers were slaughtered under Federal inspection than a year earlier. Since their weight was up 33 pounds to an average of pounds, total production'of steer beef was 24 percent larger The increased number of steers and their heavier weights-brought the average weight of all cattle slaughtered under Federal inspection in the first 6 months this year up to 989 pounds, compared with 953 pounds in the same 6 months of last year.
