Book The Little Crescent Moon and the Bright Evening Star

Download or read book The Little Crescent Moon and the Bright Evening Star written by Walter J. Humann and published by Express Press. This book was released on 1996-12-12 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This delightful, beautifully illustrated children's poem was written on Christmas Eve, 1996 for the author's grandchildren. On that date a rare celestial event occurred - a full moon appeared on the night of the Nativity. It is speculated that there was a full moon around the time of the birth of Christ. A full moon will not occur again on Christmas Eve until the year 2026. This fanciful story is about the Little Crescent Moon, who is sad because of its dim light and small size. It feels insignificant compared with the Bright Evening Star nearby. God counsels the Moon to prepare for Christ's coming, to be confident in its own abilities, and to honor God in its own unique way. This colorfully illustrated book is entertaining as well as educational. It teaches the valuable lesson that each of us can praise God in different ways. This book is excellent as a Christmas gift or for use by parents/grandparents, Sunday School and kindergarten teachers and day-care personnel.

Book An Intimate Look at the Night Sky

Download or read book An Intimate Look at the Night Sky written by Chet Raymo and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On one level, An Intimate Look at the Night Sky is a unique star guide: twenty-four beautiful star maps, created specifically for this book, cycle through the seasons and across the heavens, revealing what you can see with the naked eye throughout the year on a clear night in the northern hemisphere. Raymo's commentaries amplify the maps, offering intriguing details and tips on identifying stars, planets, and constellations. On another level, Chet Raymo challenges our imagination-to see what is unseeable in the universe, to perceive distance and size and shape that is inconceivable, to appreciate ever more fully our extraordinary place in the cosmos. His elegant essays on the heavens blend science and history, mythology and religion, making clear why he is one of the most insightful and passionate science writers of our time.

Book The Collected Works of G K Chesterton

Download or read book The Collected Works of G K Chesterton written by Gilbert Keith Chesterton and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 1986 with total page 810 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout his life, Gilbert Chesterton always had a propensity for throwing his genius around. As a result of this tendency, Chesterton penned articles, essays, stories, and poems for so many periodicals that it was almost impossible to keep track of them. In this volume, Dr. Denis J. Conlon, Professor of English Literature at the University of Antwerp, has compiled Chesterton's short stories--some of which have never appeared in print. Many stories will be new to Chesterton fans because they were originally published in England and never appeared in U.S. editions, and others published in the U.S. remain unknown on the other side of the Atlantic. Dr. Conlon also includes the lost Father Brown stories, "Fr. Brown and the Donnington Affair" and "The Mask of Midas". There are 43 short stories here, along with a selection of 25 complete and incomplete tales from Chesterton's notebooks, and numerous drawings and illustrations. Some of the stories in this wonderful volume are: "The Coloured Lands," "The Sword of Wood," "The Trees of Pride," "How I Found the Superman," "The Five of Swords," "Homesick at Home," and "The End of Wisdom." With illustrations.
