Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this sweet read-aloud, a little bird in the big city searches for the perfect puddle. Fans of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” will enjoy Little Bird's search for a just-right puddle after a rainstorm. He searches far and wide, but some puddles are too big, some are too small, and some are already crowded with bathers. When Little Bird finds a good-looking puddle in a city park, one surprise after another spoils his bath. A ball comes bounce-bounce-bouncing. . . . A little girl comes flip-flop-flapping. . . . And a dog comes arf-arf-arfing . . . straight through Little Bird's puddle. But soon, Little Bird finds the perfect puddle to call his own. Appealing illustrations and a rhythmic text filled with repetition and fun sounds make this an ideal choice for storytime or laptime.

Book Teaching Children to Love Nature

Download or read book Teaching Children to Love Nature written by Dueep Jyot Singh and published by Mendon Cottage Books. This book was released on 2018-03-31 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Table of Contents Introduction A Healthy Outdoors Diet Planning Your Nature Diet Bird baths and bird houses Coconut Birdhouse A Little Bit of Dirt… Kids and Water Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction It is surprising that it had to take scientific researchers to tell a large number of parents out there, that it is necessary for them to make sure that their children had a regular dose of sun, fresh air, water, and oxygen in order to keep healthy. When I saw this research which was very well-publicized, I blinked. Were there people really in the world, who needed scientific research to prove something, which was self-evident, before they would take their families into the lap of nature? It is then that I began to analyze the social lifestyles and trends being set for the younger generation, with the elder generation as an example. The elder generation, the parents, had begun living a hectic lifestyle, where survival of the fittest, especially on the financial front was paramount. Thus bothering about rest and recuperation in the lap of nature began to take a backseat, way back in the 90s. This lapse also caused ever-growing statistics in tension, stress, depression, obesity, a low immunity system, vulnerability to a number of diseases. Also, children began growing up with underdeveloped cognitive abilities and also physicals resilience, because they had not learned about the beneficial qualities of “Power N” to help keep you healthy, naturally and give you long-term health benefits at the same time. Also, the parents are not to blame. When a child was young, if he had not been taught by his own parents to walk, run, jog, explore, go adventuring in the lap of nature, you would not expect him to grow up deciding that he had better become a nature loving Wild Kid, all of a sudden. I have seen a large number of my city bred friends, who would shudder at the idea of tiring themselves on nature hikes, or go adventuring in woods, you know all those insects and snakes and bugs and sabertooth tigers out there, shudder, shiver.

Book Birds and Nature Vol 9 No 1 January 1901

Download or read book Birds and Nature Vol 9 No 1 January 1901 written by Various and published by CHICAGO A. W. MUMFORD, Publisher. This book was released on 2015-01-28 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Example in his ebook THE WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL. (Loxia leucoptera.) The Crossbills, together with the finches, the sparrows, the grosbeaks, the redpolls, the goldfinches, the towhees, the cardinals, the longspurs, and the buntings, belong to that large family of perching birds called the Fringillidae, from the Latin word Fringilla, meaning a finch. Mr. Chapman tells us, in his “Birds of Eastern North America,” that “this, the largest family of birds, contains some five hundred and fifty species, which are represented in all parts of the world, except the Australian region. Its members present a wide diversity of form and habit, but generally agree in possessing stout, conical bills, which are admirably adapted to crush seeds. They are thus chief among seed-eaters, and for this reason are not so migratory as insect-eating species.” Many of the birds most highly prized for the cage and as songsters are representatives of this family and many of the species are greatly admired for their beautiful coloring. The White-Winged Crossbill is a native of the northern part of North America, migrating southward into the United States during the winter months. Its technical name, Loxia leucoptera, is most appropriate and descriptive. The generic name Loxia is derived from the Greek loxos, meaning crosswise or slanting, and the specific name leucoptera is from two Greek works, meaning white and wing, and has reference to the white tips of the feathers of the wings. The common name, Crossbill, or, as the bird is sometimes called, Crossbeak, describes the peculiar structure of the bill which marks them as perhaps the most peculiar of our song birds. The bill is quite deeply cut at the base and compressed near the tips of the two parts, which are quite abruptly bent, one upward and the other downward, so that the points cross at an angle of about forty-five degrees. This characteristic gives this bird a parrot-like appearance. The similarity is heightened by the fact that these hook-like bills are used by the birds to assist in climbing from branch to branch. The Crossbills are even parrot-like in captivity. Dr. Ridgway, in the “Ornithology of Illinois,” writes as follows regarding the habits of a pair: “They were very tame, and were exceedingly interesting little pets. Their movements in the cage were like those of caged parrots in every respect, except that they were far more easy and rapid. They clung to the sides and upper wires of the cage with their feet, hung down from them, and seemed to enjoy the practice of walking with their head downward. They were in full song, and both the male and female were quite good singers. Their songs were irregular and varied, but sweet and musical. They ate almost every kind of food, but were especially eager for slices of raw apple. Although while they lived they were continually bickering over their food, yet when the female was accidentally choked by a bit of egg shell her mate was inconsolable, ceased to sing, refused his food, and died of grief in a very few days.” To be continue in this ebook

Book excerpt: Tessa Hughes’s morning devotional with God, written during the first year of the pandemic, provides an uplifting and encouraging daily reminder for those who face challenges in their faith and day-to-day lives. Because it was written daily from the time the pandemic began, it begins on April 1 and takes the reader through March of the following year to span one Easter season to another. The author provides selected excerpts from the Daily Lectionary’s readings for each day to accompany the devotionals. The Miracle Path not only compiles the daily devotionals but also encompasses some of the heart-stopping events that happened during the first year of the pandemic, including the riots surrounding George Floyd’s untimely death, the church burning in Mississippi, the explosion in Beirut, and many other tragedies and surprises the year held. The daily devotional also provides a grounding experience for Christians to continue seeking God each day and trusting him to meet them where they are. He doesn’t expect us to be on our best behavior in order to be in relationship with him.
