Book Topology and Its Applications

Download or read book Topology and Its Applications written by William F. Basener and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-06-12 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover a unique and modern treatment of topology employing a cross-disciplinary approach Implemented recently to understand diverse topics, such as cell biology, superconductors, and robot motion, topology has been transformed from a theoretical field that highlights mathematical theory to a subject that plays a growing role in nearly all fields of scientific investigation. Moving from the concrete to the abstract, Topology and Its Applications displays both the beauty and utility of topology, first presenting the essentials of topology followed by its emerging role within the new frontiers in research. Filling a gap between the teaching of topology and its modern uses in real-world phenomena, Topology and Its Applications is organized around the mathematical theory of topology, a framework of rigorous theorems, and clear, elegant proofs. This book is the first of its kind to present applications in computer graphics, economics, dynamical systems, condensed matter physics, biology, robotics, chemistry, cosmology, material science, computational topology, and population modeling, as well as other areas of science and engineering. Many of these applications are presented in optional sections, allowing an instructor to customize the presentation. The author presents a diversity of topological areas, including point-set topology, geometric topology, differential topology, and algebraic/combinatorial topology. Topics within these areas include: Open sets Compactness Homotopy Surface classification Index theory on surfaces Manifolds and complexes Topological groups The fundamental group and homology Special "core intuition" segments throughout the book briefly explain the basic intuition essential to understanding several topics. A generous number of figures and examples, many of which come from applications such as liquid crystals, space probe data, and computer graphics, are all available from the publisher's Web site.

Book Tensorial Methods and Renormalization in Group Field Theories

Download or read book Tensorial Methods and Renormalization in Group Field Theories written by Sylvain Carrozza and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-04-12 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main focus of this thesis is the mathematical structure of Group Field Theories (GFTs) from the point of view of renormalization theory. Such quantum field theories are found in approaches to quantum gravity related, on the one hand, to Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG) and on the other, to matrix- and tensor models. Background material on these topics, including conceptual and technical aspects, are introduced in the first chapters. The work then goes on to explain how the standard tools of Quantum Field Theory can be generalized to GFTs and exploited to study the large cut-off behaviour and renormalization group transformations of the latter. Among the new results derived in this context are a proof of renormalizability of a three-dimensional GFT with gauge group SU(2), which opens the way to applications of the formalism to quantum gravity.

Book Thy Truth Then Be Thy Dowry

Download or read book Thy Truth Then Be Thy Dowry written by Stéphanie Durrans and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03-26 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays provides new insights into the theme of inheritance in American women’s writing, ranging from Emily Dickinson’s appropriation of Shakespeare’s legacy to Meredith Sue Willis’s exploration of the tension between material inheritance and spiritual heritage in the Appalachian context. Using diverse critical and theoretical models, the twelve contributors examine women’s problematic relationship to inheritance in a variety of historical, geographical, and personal contexts, bringing to the fore a number of strategies of resistance and empowerment that have helped women cope with the burden or the lack of any inheritance through the centuries. Grouped into four sections, these essays successively investigate women’s attempts to grapple with the curse of personal or national inheritance, the troubled relationship with the father figure, the classic trope of the haunted, Gothic house, and the plight of more contemporary women writers who have been relegated to the dead zone of American literary inheritance. Of crucial importance for all of these writers is the tension between the home and the land, as well as a questioning of intertextuality as the starting-point for a reconfiguration of the self in its relationship with the past.

  • Pages : 306 pages

Download or read book Cries for Carteret written by Chad Hollamon and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-11-28 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being investigated by the federal government for drug and money crimes didn't deter Chad from continuing his criminal enterprise. In fact, it emboldened him as he dared the DEA and FBI to catch him. Being arrested by those same federal agents didn't force Chad to slow his life down. And being sentenced to forty years in prison didn't humble him. Not one bit. From a jail cell, he continued selling narcotics and even smuggling drugs into one of the most secure federal penitentiaries. For years, Chad's life spiraled out of control as he witnessed drug overdoses, nonsensical violence, suicides, and murders. His life seemed destined for a negative outcome, until one conversation with a mass murderer completely changed his outlook on life. That singular conversation set off a chain of events that would ultimately lead Chad to a lifetime of atonement and redemption.

Book Computer Arithmetic and Formal Proofs

Download or read book Computer Arithmetic and Formal Proofs written by Sylvie Boldo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Floating-point arithmetic is ubiquitous in modern computing, as it is the tool of choice to approximate real numbers. Due to its limited range and precision, its use can become quite involved and potentially lead to numerous failures. One way to greatly increase confidence in floating-point software is by computer-assisted verification of its correctness proofs. This book provides a comprehensive view of how to formally specify and verify tricky floating-point algorithms with the Coq proof assistant. It describes the Flocq formalization of floating-point arithmetic and some methods to automate theorem proofs. It then presents the specification and verification of various algorithms, from error-free transformations to a numerical scheme for a partial differential equation. The examples cover not only mathematical algorithms but also C programs as well as issues related to compilation. Describes the notions of specification and weakest precondition computation and their practical use Shows how to tackle algorithms that extend beyond the realm of simple floating-point arithmetic Includes real analysis and a case study about numerical analysis

Book Special Relativity of Roses Happiness

Download or read book Special Relativity of Roses Happiness written by Sauce Huang and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-21 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes most details of the foundation of special relativity (SR). The author put the related information in three groups. The first group is the outline of SR, from Michelson-Morley experiment (MMX), Lorentz Transformation (LT), the problem of combining equations to SR itself. The second group explains the related mathematics. The third group is a conclusion of SR that explains even if the time equation of LT is not a combination of spatial equations of LT and inverse LT, LT is still a very tiny portion of Galilean Transformation (GT). At the end of the book, the author pointed out a correction to LT, and that correction changes the time equation of SR from t'=t/? to t'=?t. To make this book more attractive, the author talked about a jingle starting from roses and some philosophy of happiness. Hope you like it.
