Book excerpt: Bringing together four entire collections of the prose poems and short stories of the lesbian Symbolist "RenÉe Vivien" (Pauline Mary Tarn, 1877-1909), the current volume is compromised predominately of works which have never before appeared in English. It is as much by virtue of her idiosyncrasies as because of her considerable artistry that Pauline Tarn/RenÉe Vivien was, and remains, an extremely interesting figure. She had the rare privilege of combining a very considerable technical skill and intellectual brilliance with a vivid and versatile imagination and a literary standpoint that was unique in its day. That standpoint remains unusual even now, although historical circumstances have become much more hospitable to its potential appreciation in the last quarter of a century and her work is certainly more likely to find a sympathetic and understanding audience today than ever before. The four collections in this volume are: Fjord Mists, From Green to Violet, The She-Wolf Lady, and Christ, Aphrodite and Monsieur PÉpin.

Book excerpt: "The book of Lilith tells the real story of creation. Lilith is the first human to be given a soul by God following a thirteen billion year process of mechanical, soulless evolution. Her job is to give souls to all things and awaken them to the Watcher that watches the watcher, watching the world. The first person she grants a soul to is Adam, who is given a job of his own: to invent the definition of sin, create a moral sense in a world that utterly lacks one, and hence bring about the rule of law in a compassionate society. Unfortunately, Adam has a hard time accepting the fact that he was given his soul second, instead of first, and by Lilith, not God. The conflict this engenders leads to the destruction of Eden, the creation of Eve, and a voyage of self-discovery that spans a world"--P. [4] of cover.

Book Lilith The Forgotten Goddess

Download or read book Lilith The Forgotten Goddess written by Halue Mane and published by Ahzuria Publishing. This book was released on 2024-08-29 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lilith The Forgotten Goddess The traditional story of creation holds a mystery that has been perpetuated for centuries. Was Eve really Adam's first wife? Many cultures around the world say not. According to these traditions, before Eve, God created another woman, one who refused to take on a subordinate role to the man represented by Adam. Lilith, rejecting submission, fled Eden and was later demonized by the patriarchal cultures that developed. However, Lilith has evolved from a figure associated with evil in ancient traditions to become a contemporary symbol of emancipated femininity. Through a detailed analysis of historical texts, mystical traditions and modern reinterpretations, this book explores the complexities of Lilith and her lasting influence on discussions of gender, power and autonomy. The narrative reveals how Lilith transcended her origins to become an icon of resistance and a reflection of cultural and social struggles for equality. Over the centuries, the figure of Lilith has been a controversial and multifaceted symbol, representing both a feared threat and a force for female empowerment. This book traces Lilith's evolution from her roots in Mesopotamian and Jewish traditions, where she was seen as an evil spirit, to her modern re-signification as an icon of emancipatory femininity. The work explores how Lilith, initially demonized for her refusal to submit to male authority, has been reconfigured over time, especially in mystical and esoteric contexts, as a figure of power and resistance. By analyzing her various representations, the book highlights Lilith's relevance in contemporary discussions about gender, power and autonomy, offering a comprehensive view of how ancient myths can influence and reflect modern struggles for equality. This narrative not only sheds light on Lilith's past, but also places her at the center of current debates on identity and freedom.

The existence of demons, vampires, shapeshifters, and angels has been revealed, and humans are struggling to adapt. Out of the chaos, The Aegis has risen to global power on the promise of containing or exterminating all underworlders, even if that means ushering in the End of Days. Legacy of Temptation Eva Tennant, like everyone at The Aegis, hates demons. But she loves her job as Deputy Spokesperson for the global demon-slaying organization, and she’s excited to be in the running for Chief Spokesperson. Logan, son of the Horseman of the Apocalypse known as Death, has dedicated his life to fighting demons alongside his colleagues at DART. He loves fighting, females, and his pet hellhound, Cujo. What he doesn’t love is The Aegis, whose leadership attempted to slaughter him at birth. Understandably, he balks when he’s ordered to protect an Aegis Guardian responsible for the deaths of his friends. Really, he’d rather feed her to Cujo. But when an old enemy rises from the ashes, Eva and Logan find themselves giving into temptation even as they sacrifice the things…and people…they love the most.

Book Beta Earth Legacy

Download or read book Beta Earth Legacy written by J.R. Napier and published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-10-25 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our heroes from - Beta Earth: Between Worlds return. The now legendary status Clave. The stronghearted Lana. The ever vigilant Vin. The young prodigy Anul. The increasingly ambitious Gaidon. The hopelessly desperate Abel and the alloy enhanced enigma Kamon. All of them now older and more skilled. Will be put to the ultimate test as they are dragged into an ever growing war for Paradise. --KIRKUS REVIEW-- The search for Paradise, which people believe will be the only place to survive the fated collision between two inhabited planets, leads to endless battles in Napier’s (Beta Earth: Between Worlds 2.0 Edition, 2014, etc.) latest sci-fi outing. This collection comprises three stories, each drastically shorter than the last. In the first, “Awakening,” Theia, or Beta Earth, initially the “second chance” planet, has fallen prey to crimes and criminals that plague the original Earth. The new utopia is Paradise, which proves elusive. Factions such as the United Federation, a global military force, and Final Bloodline, a cult, are hunting members of Project Guardian. The members, free of “limiters” (which block people’s true potential for power), are more susceptible as vessels for Tryle, a dormant “messenger” who will lead the way to Paradise. Mercenary Clave tries to protect Raph, who survived a UF attack on Beta Earth, from succumbing to Tryle while dodging bounty hunter Gene, who’s out for revenge. “Awakening” is sometimes disjointed, coming across as a series of smaller battles with little story progression. There likewise isn’t resolution by the end, which feels like the conclusion of a chapter rather than a story. The sometimes lethal clashes, though, are entertaining, resembling Dungeons & Dragons games; those in confrontations, generally one-on-one, will often “score” a hit or blow. The second story, “System Failure,” is more focused, zeroing in on Montello (a small but notable character in “Awakening”), who helps hackers work remotely. He recruits them for an assault against the government and incurs the wrath and eventual retribution of Kid Vicious, whom Montello embarrassed during a display of skills. The exhilarating “System Failure” features numerous references to earlier characters. The much shorter final yarn, “A Boy and His Cat,” spotlights Travis, a significant character in a prior story (under another name), who endures a tragic event that ultimately leads to his powerful status later in life. Disjointed storylines don’t diminish Napier’s endearing and contagious adoration of the sci-fi genre. ---- The book is not your average read. If I may use a tree analogy. It's like reading different branches that form into a solid structure and dig to the roots. Be brave. Give it a chance and it will take you to the heights of euphoria. -JR Napier
