Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Katie's first love was writing poetry. Katie's second love was Matt. She quit her previous job to pursue her passion for writing, but with thoughts of assuming her work wasn't good enough, she gave up and began a new job at the cafe in town. This is where she meets a regular customer named Brayden, who she finds out had a recent tragic event that later becomes a story she can relate to herself. After hearing his story, it causes her to appreciate even more that she has Matt, and it also begins to give her some inspiration to write again. Katie and Matt decide on their tenth anniversary of being together that they want to finally get married. They never wanted to be pressured into getting married, especially by Katie's parents. After Matt suggests eloping, Katie agrees that it would be for the best, and this causes even more tension between Katie and her mother. Only a month after tying the knot, a devastating accident happens that takes Matt's life. This turns Katie's world completely upside down. She stops writing again, quits her job at the cafe, closes herself off, and is lost and lonely. She was always convinced that if anything were to ever happen to Matt, that she would never be able to love someone else again. After reconnecting with Brayden months later, those doubts seem to change. Can Katie find the motivation and inspiration to write again and to find a way to rebuild the long-lost relationship with her family? Will she be able to open her heart up again to find love after him, possibly with Brayden? Or will she remain to stay true to Matt the rest of her life and continue to be alone?

Jack has a secret, and this hidden part of his past sends him on a journey through spells and gateways to other worlds, each one stranger than the last, filled with such figures as professional Dream Hunters, gangster magicians, an invisible spirit fox named Ray, an elegant Jinni named Archie, and the Queen of Eyes—holder of all oracular power in the world. From the high stakes poker table in the Hôtel de Rêve Noire, to the deadly Forest Of Souls, to a cave where he must trap a sixty-five thousand year old demon, Jack flows in and out of this world. Even when his own dream duplicate hires him to kill himself, Jack is mercury in motion—Jack the Nimble, Jack the Quick—until he runs out of tricks and must face his greatest fear. Book The Hidden Face of Eve

Download or read book The Hidden Face of Eve written by Nawal El Saadawi and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-06-27 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passionate, powerful and thought-provoking, in The Hidden Face of Eve, leading feminist writer Nawal El Saadawi provides a shocking account of the oppression of women in the Arab world. Inspired by her experiences working as a doctor in rural Egypt and her life as an activist for women's rights, she charts the injustices and violence faced by women in the society she grew up in, from legal inequality to honour killings and sexual violence, including female genital mutilation. Examining the historical roots of this oppression, she tackles the controversial topic of women and Islam, arguing that customs such as veiling and polygamy are contradictory to the fundamental teachings of the Muslim faith or any other. As necessary now as when it was first published, The Hidden Face of Eve is a classic of Arab feminist writing.

Book The Faces of Forgiveness

Download or read book The Faces of Forgiveness written by F. LeRon Shults and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2003-05-01 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While forgiveness has historically been regarded as a religious concern, it has also become a popular topic in contemporary psychology. Unfortunately, there has been little effort to combine a Christian understanding of forgiveness with psychology. The Faces of Forgiveness, winner of the Narramore Award from the Christian Association for Psychological Studies, steps in to fill this void. The authors fuse Christian forgiveness and psychology with the unifying motif of the face; thereby building on the considerable psychological research linking emotions related to forgiveness with the human face. At a deeper level, the face can serve as a metaphor for integrating forgiveness, wholeness, and salvation. The authors argue that forgiveness should take a central role in our understanding of salvation because it is warranted by the Bible and engages our postmodern context. Pastors, psychologists, family counselors, and students of psychology and theology will find The Faces of Forgiveness a helpful resource.

Book Nefesh HaTzimtzum Volume 2

Download or read book Nefesh HaTzimtzum Volume 2 written by Avinoam Fraenkel and published by Urim Publications. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 723 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nefesh HaTzimtzum provides the single most comprehensive and accessible presentation of the teachings and worldview of the Vilna Gaon's primary student, Rabbi Chaim Volozhin. It is focused on Rabbi Chaim's magnum opus, Nefesh HaChaim, a work that has lain in almost total obscurity for nearly two centuries due to its deep Kabbalistic subject matter. Nefesh HaTzimtzum opens up the real depth of the ideas presented in Nefesh HaChaim together with all of Rabbi Chaim's related writings, making them accessible to the public for the first time in any language. In addition to the complete English translation of Nefesh HaChaim, Nefesh HaTzimtzum includes the full Hebrew text of Nefesh HaChaim and many other writings by Rabbi Chaim (with correspondingly hyperlinked English and Hebrew texts), along with in-depth explanations, an informative historical overview, an easily consumable innovative presentation layout and a full index. After centuries of confusion, extensive clarification is provided of the central Kabbalistic concept of Tzimtzum, or the secret of how an infinite God occupies a finite world. Most importantly, it unequivocally demonstrates that the key Kabbalists, including the Vilna Gaon, Rabbi Chaim Volozhin and the Baal HaTanya, all unanimously agreed on the underlying principles of the concept of Tzimtzum and that contrary to widespread historical misunderstanding, there was no fundamental dispute about the philosophical principles of Judaism between the Hasidim and the Mitnagdim. Based on this Nefesh HaTzimtzum shows that both Nefesh HaChaim and Sefer HaTanya present the same methodology for serving God which is rooted in their identical understanding of the concept of Tzimtzum. Nefesh HaTzimtzum is published in two volumes which are sold separately. This companion volume presents a number of important concepts, including the concept of Tzimtzum, which together enable the true depth of Nefesh HaChaim to be understood. It also adds valuable insight by providing the translation of all of Rabbi Chaim Volozhin's published writings which are related to Nefesh HaChaim. Additional related writings are also included together with detailed outlines and a full index for both volumes.

Book The Hidden Face

Download or read book The Hidden Face written by Ida Friederike Gorres and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2009-09-03 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study of the life and character of Therese of Lisieux is a remarkable, penetrating, and fascinating search for the truth behind one of the most astounding religious figures of modern times. A young nun who entered a convent at fifteen and died at twenty-four, ThTrFse roused an incredible storm of spontaneous veneration only a few months after her death, and has been called by one Pope as the greatest saint of the modern times. Countless images of the sweetly smiling saint flooded the world. But who was she, really? The Hidden Face has sprung from this question. It presents the true Therese, as objectively as possible, and gives a convincing interpretation of her sainthood. It is a book not for Catholics alone, but for anyone fascinated by the force of spirituality, by the incalculable effects of what Pascal called the "greatness of the human soul." It opens the cloistered world of the Carmel, takes off the sugar coating, and reveals the stark drama behind convent walls, the tension between personalities, the daily details of conventual life. And it throws light on the tremendous purifying process that turned the pampered darling into a saint of heroic virtue. The work of a mind of rare intelligence and integrity, this book is unique among the lives of saints. First published in Germany in 1944, the original is now in its eighth edition. This first English translation is based on a new, revised version using the latest edition of the saint's writings. Ida Friederike Goerres is the author of several outstanding works on sanctity including The Nature of Sanctity and The Cloister and the World. The Hidden Face is considered her most important work.

Book The Revelation of Angelic Creation

Download or read book The Revelation of Angelic Creation written by Joseph R. Forman and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Move over Augustine! Look out Aquinas! This is the first exegetical work on day one of Genesis to agree with all Scripture. With the profound simplicity of a layman yet the penetrating density of a mystic, this text is a fountain of Scriptural revelation to guide both heart and mind. Unparalleled, "The Revelation of Angelic Creation" for the first time draws back the veil on "what" Wisdom is and its composite origin (the first hypostasis); the angelic creation: how it came to be and its composite nature; the "when," "how," and "why" of the angelic rebellion and fall, along with the restructuring of the unseen cosmos in the aftermath of said rebellion. Also, for good measure, the two-yes two!-gardens of Eden will be exposed. This work will set new theological precedence in all these areas and much more. Scriptural discourse is now forever altered. That which was spoken in the darkness of pre-creation, finally, is brought to light. Joe is the run-of-the-mill regular kind of guy who friends and acquaintances have called a prophet. Born and raised in southern California, his employment background consists of Production Control, Sales, Painting Contracting and a stint as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. His hobbies include Bonsai, Koi, and stained-glass. Marital Status: still pursuing Sophia (Wisdom).

  • Author : Siri Hustvedt
  • Publisher : Princeton Architectural Press
  • Release : 2006-08-10

Download or read book Mysteries of the Rectangle written by Siri Hustvedt and published by Princeton Architectural Press. This book was released on 2006-08-10 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Hustvedt gives us nine essays on the significance of particular works of art, replete with original insights and a few startling discoveries. In her essay on Giorgione's The Tempest, a painting that has mystified art critics for hundreds of years, the author reinterprets the canvas as a work about art and voyeurism. While looking at The Third of May, she was astonished to discover that Goya had hidden his own self-portrait in a shadowy corner of his iconic masterwork. More than anything, the essays in this book display a true passion for art, from the still lifes of Jean-Baptiste Chardin and Giorgio Morandi to the contemporary works of Joan Mitchell and Gerhard Richter. Hustvedt captures perfectly the pleasure found in giving oneself up to the complexities and ambiguities of painting, discovering new subtleties and surprises the longer one takes the time to look.--Back cover.

Book The Hidden Face of Eve

Download or read book The Hidden Face of Eve written by Nawal El Saadawi and published by Zed Books. This book was released on 2007-06 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This powerful account of the oppression of women in the Muslim world remains as shocking today as when it was first published, more than a quarter of a century ago. Nawal El Saadawi writes out of a powerful sense of the violence and injustice which permeated her society. Her experiences working as a doctor in villages around Egypt, witnessing prostitution, honour killings and sexual abuse, including female circumcision, drove her to give voice to this suffering. She goes on explore the causes of the situation through a discussion of the historical role of Arab women in religion and literature. Saadawi argues that the veil, polygamy and legal inequality are incompatible with the essence of Islam or any human faith. This edition, complete with a new foreword, lays claim to The Hidden Face of Eve's status as a classic of modern Arab writing.
