Download or read book The Dark Side of Leadership written by Dr Tessie Herbst and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-03-28 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the fact that leaders do indeed affect the performance of organizations or the well-being of society for better or worseto cast either a shadow or light by the exercise of their leadership. Modern psychology with its theories of human behavior, which does not acknowledge the existence of the spiritual realm, cannot explain the carnage and evil often associated with the dark side of leadership. This book focuses on the dark side of leadership in a multidimensional manner and provides a psychospiritual approach toward understanding personality disorders and leader derailment. It highlights an area that has not been widely studied by leadership researchers to datethe dynamic relationship between the psychological and spiritual domains in shaping the dark side, which lead to leadership failure and derailment. This book calls for a more interdisciplinary approach and holistic understanding of the dark side of leadership, inseparably relating body, soul, and spirit as they function individually and relationally. It highlights the fact that the restoration of personality will require sustained dialogue between theologians and the medical and psychological professions. Such a theoretical perspective would help us better understand how personality disorders develop, not only emotionally and psychologically, but spiritually.
Download or read book The Historical Backgrounds of Early Methodist Enthusiasm written by Umphrey Lee and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-01-06 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does God really communicate his will to individuals, so that they receive infallible guidance in that sense which the ancient Greeks called "enthusiasm"? Both the Old Testament and the New maintain that the true prophets received direct advices from God, which, regardless of consequences, they were morally bound to communicate even to the skeptical among their contemporaries. The recent canonization of Joan of Arc is a fresh proof that the Catholics believe in the possibility of private revelations. Luther, Calvin and the English Reformers were hostile to those Anabaptists and others who alleged they were actually receiving new revelations; and early Massachusetts felt that the most dangerous of Anne Hutchinson's heresies was her claim to immediate inspiration; for the "motions" she followed might not be those of God but the Devil. Dr. Lee sketches the belief in direct inspiration from its Hebraic and Greek roots down to the time of the French Prophets who amazed London. Early Methodism arose in such an atmosphere. He has, therefore, examined the early records of the Methodist movement and gathered evidence from its friends and from its enemies to answer the question: How far did some of the early Methodists believe that they were directly moved by God?

Book excerpt: What difference would it make for Old Testament theology if we turned our attention from the more dramatic, forceful "mighty acts of God" to the more subdued, but more realistic themes of later writings in the Hebrew Bible? The result, Mark McEntire argues, would be a more mature theology that would enable us to respond more realistically and creatively to the unprecedented challenges of the present age.

This book was released on 2017-12-04 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible to be content when life is painful and disappointing? The Art of Divine Contentment considers the implications of the Apostle Paul's claim that he had learned to be content in any situation (Phil 4:11). Our discontent is sinful when we murmur against God and accuse Him of injustice or cruelty. But by frequently beholding God's sovereignty, love, and grace, we can learn to be more content in all circumstances. Thomas Watson (1620-1686) was an English Puritan preacher and author. Watson originally published The Art of Divine Contentment around 1660. The source text for this edition is from an 1829 printing by L. B. Seeley and Sons in London. This book is a complete sentence-by-sentence modern update of Watson’s original text. Updates include: New descriptive chapter and section headings. Modern English sentence structure. Modern English vocabulary. Added paragraph breaks for topic transitions. English Standard Version (ESV) scripture references. Full scripture quotations and annotations in footnotes.
