Download or read book Many Colors written by Soong-Chan Rah and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is currently undergoing the most rapid demographic shift in its history. By 2050, white Americans will no longer comprise a majority of the population. Instead, they'll be the largest minority group in a country made up entirely of minorities, followed by Hispanic Americans, African Americans, and Asian Americans. Past shifts in America's demographics always reshaped the county's religious landscape. This shift will be no different. Soong-Chan Rah's book is intended to equip evangelicals for ministry and outreach in our changing nation. Borrowing from the business concept of "cultural intelligence," he explores how God's people can become more multiculturally adept. From discussions about cultural and racial histories, to reviews of case-study churches and Christian groups that are succeeding in bridging ethnic divides, Rah provides a practical and hopeful guidebook for Christians wanting to minister more effectively in diverse settings. Without guilt trips or browbeating, the book will spur individuals, churches, and parachurch ministries toward more effectively bearing witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Good News for people of every racial and cultural background. Its message is positive; its potential impact, transformative.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a gritty, often compelling tale that spans thirty years of a rising three-sport star athlete, who through increasing levels of alcohol and drug use, promiscuity, and other damaging behaviors, experiences a total and complete fall from grace. It is filled with the struggle to find meaning and purpose through it all during high school, college, and beyond. Travels range from Washington State to New Jersey, Australia, Southeast Asia, California, to Alabama. The story ultimately culminates in an uplifting message of redemption and recovery. There are a series of traumatic episodes, both on and off the field, which are described with an open, honest, and sometimes humorous use of cultural references, recovery techniques, scripture verses, and theological insights gained by the author since those extreme life events. They are applied at just the right moments to help soften the blows from painful periods of growth, grief and loss, depression and despair, victory and defeat. When all seems lost, God steps in and provides a glimmer of hope for the future and an inspirational ending, which really is a new beginning.

Book excerpt: These stories are not fables or fairy tales. They are severe chronicles of gangstas, written by men and women who have starved and bled and survived by the code of the streets. Now she lends her considerable street cred to this anthology, the first of its kind–an explosive collection featuring edgy new writers Turner handpicked for their ability to evoke the street, and the people who live by its rules, in hot, hyperrealistic stories. Turner scoured the ghetto, the prisons, and every crack and crevice around the country to bring you these impressive new fresh-from-the-street voices. Never one to disappoint her fans, Turner even throws in a raw gangsta tale of her own. From a buppie who risks her entire well-groomed world when she’s suddenly turned on by a thug (“Gotta Have a Ruffneck”), to a lesbian pimp who gets what she deserves from the women she’s turning out (“Big Daddy”), these stories will shock, entertain, and make you fly through the pages.

Download or read book Longevity a Vedic Approach written by Raj Kumar and published by Sagar Publications. This book was released on with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The correct judgement of longevity is highly complex, but is equally important and sought after. “Knowing longeity is difficult even for gods” said sage Parashar. Any prediction made without considering it may make the prediction a laughing stock of both the astrologer and astrology. The time span between birth and death of a native is called his longevity. Longevity and death are not the same but are closely related. However it is not yet clear what death is. Our scriptures have at various places equated death with different types of Mrityu Tulya agonies which are different from physical death. Again the destiny of each one of us is interlinked with our close kith and kin and our relationship with them is pre-determined, predestined and irrevocable. Death is severing of final link of a native with them. Hence a native’s death must get corroborated / confirmed in the horoscopes of his close relations. An attempt is made in this book to address all such issues. The book is a study of about 225 natives who had lived and died in different countries at different time, at different age and of different causes, applying known tools of astrology. The book is an attempt to help clear some mist and enable to have a better judgement of longevity.
Download or read book The World of Ancient Israel written by Society for Old Testament Study and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1989 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encapsulating as it does research that has been undertaken on the sociological, anthropological and political aspects of the history of ancient Israel, this important book is designed to follow in the tradition of works in the series sponsored by The Society for Old Testament Study which began with the publication of The People and the Book in 1925. The World of Ancient Israel is especially concerned to explore in greater depth than comparable studies the areas and degrees of overlap between approaches to the subject of Old Testament research adopted by scholars and students of theology and the social sciences. Increasing numbers of scholars have recognised the valuable insights that can be gained from a cross-disciplinary approach, and it is becoming clear that the early biblical traditions about the formation of the Israelite state must be examined in the light of comparative anthropology if useful historical conclusions are to be drawn from them.
