Download or read book Heart of a Game Ranger written by Mario Cesare and published by Jonathan Ball Publishers. This book was released on 2017-02-10 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MARIO CESARE, after decades as warden of Olifants River Game Reserve, has his feet firmly planted in this magnificent slice of Big Five country to the west of the Kruger Park. Cesare recounts some of the hair-raising, heartbreaking and heartwarming moments: a buffalo calf reunited with its pining mother, injured lions given second chances and rhinos lost, one by one, to poaching. Heart of a Game Ranger is a story of extremes, where spectacular days that end in exhausted satisfaction and achievement are balanced by those that leave behind only despair and frustration. Seen through his eyes and spoken from the heart, Cesare tells a deeply personal story – not only of a life lived wild, but of the joy of Africa's incredible natural world.

Book Ranger Confidential

Download or read book Ranger Confidential written by Andrea Lankford and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2010-04-02 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For twelve years, Andrea Lankford lived in the biggest, most impressive national parks in the world, working a job she loved. She chaperoned baby sea turtles on their journey to sea. She pursued bad guys on her galloping patrol horse. She jumped into rescue helicopters bound for the heart of the Grand Canyon. She won arguments with bears. She slept with a few too many rattlesnakes. Hell yeah, it was the best job in the world! Fortunately, Andrea survived it. In this graphic and yet surprisingly funny account of her and others’ extraordinary careers, Lankford unveils a world in which park rangers struggle to maintain their idealism in the face of death, disillusionment, and the loss of a comrade killed while holding that thin green line between protecting the park from the people, the people from the park, and the people from each other. Ranger Confidential is the story behind the scenery of the nation’s crown jewels—Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Great Smokies, Denali. In these iconic landscapes, where nature and humanity constantly collide, scenery can be as cruel as it is redemptive.

Book Partisan Life with Mosby s Rangers Abridged Annotated

Download or read book Partisan Life with Mosby s Rangers Abridged Annotated written by Major John Scott and published by BIG BYTE BOOKS. This book was released on 2016-11-15 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Singleton Mosby's Rangers bedeviled the Union army for four long years. The Rangers were what we would today call guerillas; units that could make fast raids and get away before the enemy could react. This highly-successful unit became legendary during the war and continues to be an object of fascination by scholars and enthusiasts of the period into the 21st century. This is the official memoir of Mosby's command, written with his cooperation after the war. The author of this work, John Scott, wrote the Partisan Ranger Law in 1862. John Singleton Mosby was a remarkable individual. Highly intelligent, educated, and modest, he held the respect of many on both sides of the war. After the Civil War, he became a Republican and a supporter of Ulysses S. Grant. Every memoir of the American Civil War provides us with another view of the catastrophe that changed the country forever. For the first time, this long out-of-print volume is available as an affordable, well-formatted book for e-readers and smartphones. Book A Sheltered Life

Download or read book A Sheltered Life written by Darrell Hazle and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-09-03 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Hazle thanks God and those who have helped him have a happy, successful, and Christian life. He takes the readers through many events that he considers the providence of God in his life including the serendipitous discovery of the first antidepressant—imipramine marketed in 1957—which was used to treat his first depression in 1975. He describes in his book how at the age of seventy-five years he has had a successful career as a dental officer in the United States Public Health Service and an exciting retirement even with three bouts of depression and being maintained on medication since 1975 for bipolar disorder. Of particular importance is the adversity God gave him during his third depression---lasting eighteen months---and the spiritual changes which he credits with making hm a more mature Christ-centered Christian. He also attributes part of his success in managing his bipolar illness with his understanding of neurotransmitters and emotions that began with a research project at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 1968. Described in the book is his family history of treatment for disabeling depression in three generations including: one suicide and one suicide attempt, and three family members receiving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). He also challenges readers and demonstrates making stimulating music memories with good emotions that they would like to recall for the rest of their lives. He believes this book would be of interest to those exploring the science of depression, alcoholism, and addiction to nicotine and other drugs, as well as spiritual aspects of behavior. In the last chapter read about the author’s most interesting and memorable pheasant and duck hunting and fishing trips. God has carried out his plan for Dr. Hazle. His sincere desire is that God would be glorified through this book.
