Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IN the second year of the reign of Henry VII, which was the year 1486, there lived a woman called Agatha Shipton, at a place caned Knuresborougb, in Yorkshire. She came of poor parentage, who died and left her, at the age of 15, destitute. After their decease she still lived in the old house; but being now deprived of those helps she formerly enjoyed, she was obliged to seek relief from the parish; which she did, but with so much regret and grief, that she seemed in her begging rather to command alms, than in an humble manner to desire it.The Devil looked on her poverty to be great. He told her that he could pierce through the earth, and ransack its treasures and bring what precious things I please from thence to bestow on those that serve me. I know all rare arts and sciences, and can teach them to whom I please. I can disturb the elements, stir up thunders and lightnings, destroy tile best of things which were created for the use of man, find can appear in what shape or' form I please. It will take too long to describe my power, or tell you what I can do but I will only tell thee what thou shalt do. That being done, I will give thee power to raise hail, tempests, with lightning and thunder; the winds shall be at thy command. and shall bear thee whither thou art willing to go, though ever so far off, and shall bring thee back again when thou bast a mind to return. The hidden treasures of the earth shall be at thy disposal and pleasure, and nothing shall be wanting to complete thy happiness here. Thou shalt, moreover, heal or kill whom thou pleaseth; destroy or preserve either man or beast; know what is past, and assuredly tell what is to come. -Here note by the way, the Devil is a liar from the beginning, and will promise more by ten miIlions than he knows he is capable of performing, to the intent that he may ensnare and damn a soul. This so ravished Agatha, that she fell to the ground in a profound and deep trance: Doe of her neighbours coming in at this time, wondered to see Agatha laying on the floor motionless; however, out of pity, she endeavoured to awaken Agatha; but using what means she could, it all signified nothing; she shook and pinched her, yet still she lay insensible. This woman being strangely amazed, ran out amongsh the rest of the neighbours, crying out that poor Agatha Shipton was suddenly struck dead, and desired them to go into the house with her, and be eye-witnesses of the truth; whereupon several went and found what this woman said to be seemingly true; but one wiser than the rest, stooped down, and perceiving that she breathed, said, "Friends, ye are all mistaken, Agatha is not dead, but in n. trance, or else she is bewitched;" she had scarcely uttered these words, before Agatha began to stir, and soon after raising herself on her legs, cried out in a very distracted tone, "What do you here, vile wretches? cannot I enjoy my pleasures, but ye must be eaves-dropping? get ye gone, yc have nothing to do here;" and hereupon she fell a dancing, which they wondered at, because they could hear no music. At length, Agatha turned about, and seeing they were all gone, said, "If ye are resolved thus to disturb me, and will not go, I will make ye."

Download or read book Renascent Joyce written by Daniel Ferrer and published by University Press of Florida. This book was released on 2013-02-17 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revival, reinvention, and regeneration: the concept of renascence pervades Joyce’s work through the inescapable presence of his literary forebears. By persistently reexamining tradition, reinterpreting his literary heritage in light of the present, and translating and re-translating from one system of signs to another, Joyce exhibits the spirit of the greatest of Renaissance writers and artists. In fact, his writing derives some of its most important characteristics from Renaissance authors, as this collection of essays shows. Though critical work has often focused on Joyce's relationship to medieval thinkers like Thomas Aquinas and Dante, Renascent Joyce examines Joyce's connection to the Renaissance in such figures as Shakespeare, Rabelais, and Bruno. Joyce's own writing can itself be viewed through the rubric of renascence with the tools of genetic criticism and the many insights afforded by the translation process. Several essays in this volume examine this broader idea, investigating the rebirth and reinterpretation of Joyce's texts. Topics include literary historiography, Joyce's early twentieth-century French cultural contexts, and the French translation of Ulysses. Attentive to the current state of Joyce studies, the writers of these extensively researched essays investigate the Renaissance spirit in Joyce to offer a volume at once historically informed and innovative.

Download or read book Nostradamus and the Planets of Apocalypse written by Jason M. Breshears and published by . This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book maps out the entire historical chronology of planetary cataclysms starting in 4309 BC, covering the cyclical return of Nibiru, the planet Phoenix, and more. It also reveals the code for understanding the prophecies of Nostradamus, showing when they have occurred in the past, or when they will occur in the future. It takes the work of Mario Reading, who first broke the code, and shows how it perfectly applies to all of Breshears' previously made cataclysmic predictions for the years 2040 and 2046. Mr. Reading made mistakes in interpreting some quatrains for the years 2001-2012 that did not involve his code, so his work has been largely dismissed. Breshears brings Reading's work back to life with stunning clarity, and takes it one step further in our understanding of prophetic events. Also covers the predictions of Mother Shipton, who was not only a contemporary to Nostradamus, but made the exact predictions Breshears and Nostradamus made concerning two large scale global catastrophes that will occur six years apart. Despite the many predictions of others, the year 2012 passed with no worldwide cataclysmic events because, according to the author, they were never interpreted or explained correctly, until now. The author remains unmatched in his in-depth research regarding historical and geological cycles, which in turn allows him to accurately map major planetary events, past and future, many of which are outlined in this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is not with any pretension of having discovered something new that I have prepared this volume. I am glad to acknowledge my indebtedness to many sober, spiritually-minded teachers of the Word who in years gone by saw clearly many truths as to God’s prophetic plan which later writers and teachers have obscured in large measure. While I do not expect all my readers to agree with me, I humbly ask that, like the Berean Jews of old, they do not reject this testimony without careful inquiry, but that they search the Scriptures to see whether these things are so. Personally, they have been a part of my own thinking for so many years and have meant so much to me in my study of the Word of God that I am eager to have others enter into them, too. On the other hand, I have no desire to press anything that is not substantiated by Scripture. “We can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.” And in the Old Testament it is written: “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”

Book excerpt: New Agers count off the days until the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. Evangelical Christians look for the Antichrist and long for the Rapture. Extropians dream of the Singularity, when super-intelligent computers will abolish all human limits to progress. Doomers stockpile freeze-dried food as they wait for civilization to crash and burn. Why are we waiting for Armageddon? Almost since the beginning of civilization, an insatiable willingness to believe has driven people to dream of the apocalypse that will replace the world they've got with the one they've always wanted. All of these predictions have one thing in common: every one of them has been wrong. From brilliant seers and religious visionaries to conspiracy theorists and fundamentalists, Apocalypse Not exposes prophecies of doom.--From publisher description.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE WONDER in the LAND: In this volume Comyns Beaumont brings together historical and biblical evidence to demonstrate that the history we have come to accept is far from accurate. He develops the theme of the advanced civilisation present in pre-Roman Britain - the post-diluvian remnant of the Hyperborean landmass Plato called Atlantis. His acceptance of ancient astronomical and meteorological knowledge puts an end to the whole concept of an 'Ice Age', as aeons melt into centuries. The past is closer than we think!

Download or read book Crystal Vision Through Crystal Gazing written by Frater Achad and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-05 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Purpose of this little volume is three-fold. (1) To give those who are interested in the art of Crystal-Gazing a clear and concise method of procedure, not alone in the practice of the work, but also in the preparation of the crystal itself, so that it becomes a true material basis or link with other planes. (2) To show that the Ancient Methods of Working—if properly understood—are more scientific than modern ones, since they were designed to insure a definite type of vision and to put the Seer in touch with definite Intelligences of a Higher Order. (3) To point out that there are other Crystalline Spheres besides the crystal ball at first used to contact them; and that eventually the practice may lead to very high results, if the necessary steps are taken to insure success. With these objects in mind, the Author has done all in his power to make this book of real value to all who may obtain it. In the hands of the beginner it may lead to a wider conception of the Nature and Powers of his, or her, own being. Those who have already traveled some distance along the Occult Path may still find help through the study of the more advanced, if less understood, methods of the Ancient Seers. Those who are seeking to make their own Vision more Perfect, so that the Light of Truth may focus itself within them, will also find hints as to the means of accomplishing their True Purpose. Thus, it is hoped, all will be satisfied; and should their satisfaction be equal to that of the Author at this opportunity to herald the Light—however faintly—of the Ultimate Crystalline Sphere, Whose nature is Light Itself, he will be more than repaid for his efforts.—Frater Achad
Download or read book Nostradamus written by Denis Crouzet and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-16 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most enigmatic figures in history, Nostradamus - apothecary, astrologer and soothsayer - is a continual source of fascination. Indeed, his predictions are so much the stock-in-trade of the wildest merchants of imminent Doom that one could be forgiven for forgetting that Michel de Nostredame, 1503-1566, was a figure firmly rooted in the society of the French Renaissance. In this bold new account of the life and work of Nostradamus, Denis Crouzet shows that any attempt to interpret his Prophecies at face value is misguided. Nostradamus was not trying to predict the future. He saw himself, rather, as 'prophesying', i.e. bringing the Word of God to humankind. Like Rabelais, for whom laughter was a therapy to help one cope with the misery of the times, Nostradamus thought of himself as a physician of the soul as much as of the body. His unveiling of the menacing and horrendous events which await us in the future was a way of frightening his readers into the realisation that inner hatred was truly the greatest peril of all, to which the sole remedy was to live in the love and peace of Christ. This inspired interpretation penetrates the imaginative world of Nostradamus, a man whose life is as mysterious as his writings. It shows him in a completely new dimension, securing for him a significant place among the major thinkers of the Renaissance.
