Book excerpt: "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" tells the tale of Ichabod Crane and his hapless attempt to win the coronary heart and hand of Katrina Van Tassel inside the context of a comical ghost story. Ichabod comes to Sleepy Hollow, New York, from his domestic nation of Connecticut, to be the schoolmaster of the village. Sleepy Hollow is a small, very quiet metropolis stated to be beneath some sort of appeal. Its residents all seem to move a bit slower, daydream a bit more, and be extra at risk of agree with in the supernatural. Sleepy Hollow, maybe because of this or maybe because its citizens are almost all descended from its authentic Dutch settlers, has more than its honest share of supernatural occurrences, or as a minimum testimony of them.Sleepy Hollow's maximum famous supernatural phenomenon is the ghost of the Headless Horseman, said to be a Hessian soldier who lost his head to a cannon ball during the Revolutionary War. The Horseman is visible most usually driving through the church, where nearby historians say he was buried. He is thought to be continually searching for his head. Ichabod is curious about this story, being in particular involved (and at risk of consider) in stories of the supernatural.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotations This book is unique because it contains a literary criticism that was made by Juan AcevedoIchabod Crane is a little Apollonian master at Sleepy Hollow. It pretends to the beautiful, young and, above all, wealthy Katrina Van Tassel; However, his expectations of improving his position through his marriage to the girl have to overcome the pitfall that involves Brom the Bones, who also courts the girl. Although the worst thing is that in Sleepy Hollow you have to be careful, because you can meet the headless horseman ...: Probably this one (often called simply Sleepy Hollow or also The Legend of the Headless Horseman) is the best known of the author's stories, perhaps because of the numerous times it has been taken to the screen and especially because of the adaptation of it did Tim Burton in 1999."How many times was the teacher almost dying of anguish when he thought he heard in the breeze of the wind among the trees the step of a headless horseman riding in the forest!"I think that almost anyone who thinks at first of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow will imagine a horror story, more or less Gothic, more or less spooky, more or less sinister, but of terror after all. However, that is not the main story that Irving provides. The whole narrative, even the darkest and most terrifying moments, is imbued with a good dose of humor because, in reality, it is more of a comic and satirical story, whose dark tones achieve, paradoxically, that the reader laughs with more strength of the events surrounding Ichabod Crane."He was a kind and grateful man, of good shape and with a heart as big as capable was his skinny body, however, to expand incredibly to accommodate all that he swallowed."This is the main protagonist, and not the headless horseman. Ichabod is far from being a hero, an antihero or anything similar. It's basically a walking satire. Irving describes us as an ungainly schoolmaster, tyrant with his students, poor, interested, credulous, and with a great insatiable stomach, who will look kindly on woo a beautiful young woman whose wedding would mean having at his disposal rich delicacies all the days. The most peculiar of his character is his taste for horror stories, which enrapture him as much as they scare him, and his trickery - which equals or even surpasses that of those around him. It will be with him that we will get to know the territory of Sleepy Hollow and the terrible rider without a head, until we reach an end that will not stop smiling.
