Book The Leader s Pyramid

Download or read book The Leader s Pyramid written by Joseph Garcia and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his book, The Leader's Pyramid, Joseph Garcia provides a leadership tool that is both easy to remember and easy to apply to most management situations. Garcia offers proven leadership success based on a challenging military career and while serving as a CFO for a national nonprofit and most recently as the "Katrina CFO" for FEMA in New Orleans for three years. Garcia's Leader's Pyramid tool has allowed him to do his part to meet extraordinary mission requirements in extraordinary places. The Leader's Pyramid is built and grounded on proven principles and is valuable to all types of leaders -- experienced manager or newly promoted supervisor. Joseph blends his "walked in a leader's shoes" perspective with extensive research and academic principles. He taught a Leadership course at the Air Force Academy and received his Executive Masters in Leadership from Georgetown University. His desired outcome for his readers is a balanced and consistent approach to leadership. Using the Leader's Pyramid construct has allowed Joseph to be consistent in how he reaches decisions, especially tough ones involving people concerns, because he follows the same decision-making process. At the same time, he has gained the proper balance in his leadership focus and actions since his Leader's Pyramid allocates a 60/30/10 percentage mix for the Mission, People, and Ego factors respectively. Proof of Garcia's "recipe for success" includes many organizational and individual awards, including the "Male Boss of the Year" through the Federal Women's Awards Program. Joseph builds the Leader's Pyramid with his readers one block at a time, using his wealth of personal experiences along with illustrating scenarios that helps explain and reinforce the Mission, People, and Ego components. Garcia even uses the Leader's Pyramid to advocate how to become a better spouse, parent, and well-rounded individual. Finally, his "pyramid maintenance tips" promote continuous professional and personal development. In short, Garcia takes his readers on an enjoyable learning journey throughout The Leader's Pyramid.

Download or read book Superservant Leader written by Fr. P. Amah (PhD) and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-09 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ken Blanchard from Servant-Leadership Revisited "With the traditional pyramid, the boss is always responsible and the staff are supposed to be responsive to the boss. When you turn the pyramid upside down, those roles get reversed. Your people become responsible and the job of management is to be responsive to their people. That creates a very different environment for implementation. If you work for your people, then what is the purpose of being a manager? To help them accomplish their goals. Your job is to help them win." Shann Ray Ferch, PhD, Professor of Leadership, Gonzaga University "In an elegant and evocative rendering of the life of one of the world's great servant leaders, Edeh, Dr. Amah has given us a glimpse of global servant leadership and a true vision of the kind of leaders we need to help heal the heart of the world. Dr. Amah's book is a resource with global implications and with the honesty and tenderness that move us forward as human beings and that restore us to the deepest and most vital expressions of our collective humanity. In envisioning for us the life and impact of Emmanuel Edeh, Nigerian and global servant leader, Dr. Amah gives hope to the people of every continent, and in fact helps us reach as global citizens for one another in hope and love and good service. This hope is established first in the person, then the collective, and finally the world. Peter Amah has given us a guide to that hope, and placed in our hands the gift that leads us from the despair of the past to a future graced by discernment and love."

Book The 5 Levels of Leadership

Download or read book The 5 Levels of Leadership written by John C. Maxwell and published by Center Street. This book was released on 2011-10-04 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Use this helpful book to learn about the leadership tools to fuel success, grow your team, and become the visionary you were meant to be. True leadership isn't a matter of having a certain job or title. In fact, being chosen for a position is only the first of the five levels every effective leader achieves. To become more than "the boss" people follow only because they are required to, you have to master the ability to invest in people and inspire them. To grow further in your role, you must achieve results and build a team that produces. You need to help people to develop their skills to become leaders in their own right. And if you have the skill and dedication, you can reach the pinnacle of leadership—where experience will allow you to extend your influence beyond your immediate reach and time for the benefit of others. The 5 Levels of Leadership are: 1. Position—People follow because they have to. 2. Permission—People follow because they want to. 3. Production—People follow because of what you have done for the organization. 4. People Development—People follow because of what you have done for them personally. 5. Pinnacle—People follow because of who you are and what you represent. Through humor, in-depth insight, and examples, internationally recognized leadership expert John C. Maxwell describes each of these stages of leadership. He shows you how to master each level and rise up to the next to become a more influential, respected, and successful leader.

You will discover how charisma serves as the bonding agent of the other nine elements to strengthen and support your leadership. If you desire to lead your organization more effectively, then this book is a must read. The first question anyone asks when writing a book on leadership is, "Why another book on leadership should be written?" The answer to this question is not simple. First, this book is a result of years of concern about pastors or those in pastoral roles, such as chaplains. God placed this passion deep within my heart many years ago. God called me from the life of an international evangelist and church planter to active duty as a US Army Reserve chaplain, assigned as the deputy command chaplain, US Central Command (CENTCOM). As the deputy command chaplain, I had the responsibility for religious support throughout Iraq. It was my during my first trip to Iraq that God revealed the depth of struggles chaplains and pastors face, often alone. When I arrived in Iraq with my chaplain assistant, we went to visit a unit headquarters that had been involved in intense fighting as the unit moved from Kuwait to Baghdad. The unit was occupying a partially destroyed building. As I sought out the chaplain, a chaplain assistant brought the chaplain out to meet us. When I saw that chaplain, God fixed within my heart a desire to help ministers in desperate need. The man standing before me as the chaplain of this unit was simply a shell of a man. It was clear that this chaplain had gone through some of the most difficult fighting with his unit. He showed me his vehicle, which contained numerous bullet holes sustained as they moved through different firefights. Although they are considered noncombatants, chaplains travel with the units and often come under fire from the enemy. As noncombatants, chaplains do not carry any type of weapon. This chaplain had found himself without a weapon in some of the most intense firefights while traveling from Kuwait to Baghdad. At that moment, God placed in my heart a deep desire to help the chaplains and pastors who find themselves caught in the crossfire of intense firefights. After more than eight years of duty as a chaplain with CENTCOM, I returned to my home state to find some of the same challenges facing pastors. While pastors may not be shot with bullets, multiple attacks destroy them. One of the greatest attacks pastors face is that of going it alone--the "lone ranger syndrome." Pastors face the attack of isolation. Isolation left unchecked will often lead to pastors deciding it is no longer worth the effort. Unfortunately, this has resulted in the (often unrevealed) decision of a pastor to commit suicide. Pastors often find themselves attacked by the congregation they are called to serve. There are a variety of reasons members of the congregation may turn on their pastor and begin their attack. These attacks may evolve from some indiscretion of the pastor, or they may stem from some personal challenges of the members. Whatever the reason for these attacks, the forced termination of the pastor is the end result. Pastors often find themselves not clearly understanding their roles as leaders within their local congregations. Being a leader is a complicated and seldom understood aspect of pastoring. Leadership involves more than trying to get people to do what you want them to do. Experts in leadership tend to agree that leadership is influence within a process. Influence contains the two elements of power and authority. This gives rise to three questions: 1. What can a pastor influence? 2. Where does a pastor derive power and authority for leadership? 3. How does the process of leadership work? First, what can a pastor influence? A pastor influences some of the same things leaders in all organizations influence. When an event happens within the world or society, people within the church turn to the pastor for interpretation of these external events. Pastors serve as the individual who influences objectives and strategies within the local church. Through business meetings, pastors influence the allocation of resources to the various activities and objectives of the church. Pastors are considered as one of the primary influencers in the development of the skills and confidence of members, especially concerning their spiritual lives. The pastor influences the learning and sharing of new knowledge in spiritual things. The pastor very much influences the shared. The pastor is a leader. The second question is not an easy one to answer: Where does a pastor derive power and authority from? This book is a starting point to answer the question about power and authority. The idea that a pastor is a leader does not settle well with some pastors. However, there is no room for false humility as a leader, especially as a pastor who is a leader. This book is intended to start this conversation--not provide the authoritative, definitive answer to this question. Third, this book does not present a step-by-step design for every pastor to follow. It is not a book on leadership behaviors or traits. Instead, what this book provides are ten foundational elements that should be present in the formation of each pastor''s leadership style. Like the adage that it is better to teach people to fish rather than giving them a fish, this book should serve as a guide to teaching leadership to pastors.
