Book The Layered DP

Download or read book The Layered DP written by Tabea Ihsane and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines argumental un-NPs and du/des-NPs in French: nominals with the indefinite article and with the so-called 'partitive article' respectively. The main aim is to account for the different interpretations of these indefinites and to determine how interpretation and structure are related. This study thus concerns the syntax-semantics interface, with an emphasis on the composition of the left periphery and the inflectional domain of the indefinites mentioned. It is realized in the framework of generative grammar and in a cartographic approach. A crucial proposal put forward in this book is that indefinites of different semantic types are associated with different left peripheries. The analysis further suggests that the inflectional domain of these indefinites may comprise three discrete functional projections encoding the features [count], [quantity] and [number]. Interestingly, these results seem to extend to a selection of bare nouns in Romance and Germanic languages.

Book Mathematical Models in Boundary Layer Theory

Download or read book Mathematical Models in Boundary Layer Theory written by V.N. Samokhin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Prandtl first suggested it in 1904, boundary layer theory has become a fundamental aspect of fluid dynamics. Although a vast literature exists for theoretical and experimental aspects of the theory, for the most part, mathematical studies can be found only in separate, scattered articles. Mathematical Models in Boundary Layer Theory offers the first systematic exposition of the mathematical methods and main results of the theory. Beginning with the basics, the authors detail the techniques and results that reveal the nature of the equations that govern the flow within boundary layers and ultimately describe the laws underlying the motion of fluids with small viscosity. They investigate the questions of existence and uniqueness of solutions, the stability of solutions with respect to perturbations, and the qualitative behavior of solutions and their asymptotics. Of particular importance for applications, they present methods for an approximate solution of the Prandtl system and a subsequent evaluation of the rate of convergence of the approximations to the exact solution. Written by the world's foremost experts on the subject, Mathematical Models in Boundary Layer Theory provides the opportunity to explore its mathematical studies and their importance to the nonlinear theory of viscous and electrically conducting flows, the theory of heat and mass transfer, and the dynamics of reactive and muliphase media. With the theory's importance to a wide variety of applications, applied mathematicians-especially those in fluid dynamics-along with engineers of aeronautical and ship design will undoubtedly welcome this authoritative, state-of-the-art treatise.

The effect of gas velocity, size and properties of the dispersed material, the geometric characteristics of the pipe bundle is also presented, alongside data on the effect of high temperature and high pressure of gas in a dispersed system on heat exchange intensity. Covers the design of apparatus and devices with a boiling bed in various industries Includes criteria equations for calculating heat exchange, as well as data for the calculation of furnace devices Presents the structure analysis of the boiling bed with submerged pipe bundles and the calculation of the hydrodynamic resistance of the boiling bed

Book Manual of Deixis in Romance Languages

Download or read book Manual of Deixis in Romance Languages written by Konstanze Jungbluth and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-10-16 with total page 790 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deixis as a field of research has generated increased interest in recent years. It is crucial for a number of different subdisciplines: pragmatics, semantics, cognitive and contrastive linguistics, to name just a few. The subject is of particular interest to experts and students, philosophers, teachers, philologists, and psychologists interested in the study of their language or in comparing linguistic structures. The different deictic structures – not only the items themselves, but also the oppositions between them – reflect the fact that neither the notions of space, time, person nor our use of them are identical cross-culturally. This diversity is not restricted to the difference between languages, but also appears among related dialects and language varieties. This volume will provide an overview of the field, focusing on Romance languages, but also reaching beyond this perspective. Chapters on diachronic developments (language change), comparisons with other (non-)European languages, and on interfaces with neighboring fields of interest are also included. The editors and authors hope that readers, regardless of their familiarity with Romance languages, will gain new insights into deixis in general, and into the similarities and differences among deictic structures used in the languages of the world.

Book A Simple Two layer Model and Its Extension

Download or read book A Simple Two layer Model and Its Extension written by Tung-Hsien Liao and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A two-layer model applicable both to graphical integration and numerical computation is proposed. Using this model, the height of the 500-mb surface and the thickness between this and some chosen isobaric surface in the vicinity of the top of the friction layer can be derived. An extended model involving three layers is also designed. Unlike Sawyer and others, in designing these models, the distribution of the vertical velocity with height is not prescribed. Finally, the steadiness of the space mean velocity field and the selection of lateral boundary conditions are discussed.
