This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: April 8, 1909 It is the same with the Prophet Joseph Smith and the Latter-day Saints. It is the gospel of the Son of God, revealed anew in this last dispensation, that has made the name of that man immortal, and the saints the people that they are. Without it, in all proba bility the name of Joseph Smith would not have been known out side the locality in which he resided. Scarcely a day passes with out adding lustre to the name of the latter-day prophet, and as the years go by it will become more and more illustrious. It was the same with President Brigham Young. It was Mormonism, or the gospel of Jesus Christ, which made him the great and mighty man that he was. The-same may be said of all the succeeding presidents of the Church and also of the Latter-day Saints as a whole. In their lives the power of the gospel has been plainly made manifest. What a change the gospel of Christ has Wrought in the lives of tens of thousands of men and women in these latter days; through obedience to its holy principles they have been literally regenerated, born again, made new creatures in Christ Jesus, so that they are able to say with Paul, we are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation. How could we feel ashamed of that which has done so much for us? Well might the Savior say, He that is ashamed of me before men of him will I be ashamed before my Father and before the angels. What have we to be ashamed of, brethren and sisters? Nothing under the sun. On the contrary, we have much to -be proud of. IS the great revelation which the Father and the Son have given of themselves in this dispensation something, to be ashamed of? Verily, no. Think of the state of ignorance from which that glorious manifestation has delivered hundreds of thousands of the human family. What erroneous and absurd ideas we entertained concerning our Father in heaven before the glad tidings of that new revelation reached us. Before, we worshiped we knew not what; now we worship God intelligently, in Spirit and in truth. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 88: April 22, 1926 Mormonism makes no claim to originality, so far as its doc trines are concerned. Framed in the heavens, it was revealed first to Adam; after him to Enoch, to Noah, to Abraham, and to Moses, in a series of dispensations reaching down to the days of Christ, and on into these latter days, when it has come again, this time to prepare the way before the second appearing of the Lord and the winding up of His work as pertaining to this planet. Such is its ancient past and present purpose, as set forth in the sacred books of the Church. These books, in addition to the Bible, are the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price, the latter two containing the revelations of Jesus Christ to His servant Joseph Smith. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 103: May 15, 1941 God's purposes To BE fulfilled The Church of Jesus \christ of Latter-day Saints is the mother of men because it has given so much. This heaven inspired Church Welfare Plan creates in us a fine desire to be sympathetic and to Work, and to help others to work. The joy that we gain from service to men is not easily measured. Wars may come, and they will go. I do not believe the Millennium is imminent; this Church is consecrated to the task of preaching the Gospel to every nation, kindred, tongue and people. We have scarcely scratched the surface. Where We are baptizing one today, in the not distant future we are going to baptize fifty, aye, a hundred, for God's purposes are sure to be fulfilled. He does not delight in the death of the wicked. He love-s His children, and through His servants He is pleading with them to come to the light, which results in obedience to Him. Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 87 written by James E. Talmage and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 87: June 25, 1925 These this prominent writer gives as the fundamentals of Christianity. These the Elders of the Church of Jesus Christ are preaching. Their aims are lofty, their purposes are sublime, and the world, instead of speaking against them should encourage them and uphold them. Particularly is this true of the State of Utah. Every citizen of this State owes an obligation to the two thousand missionaries who are out representing this State in honour. Why should anyone condemn the missionaries who are out preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ without price, paying their own expenses for teaching to the world the Fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man, and bearing witness, in kindness and love, that our Father has appeared to man, that His Son Jesus Christ has been raised from the tomb and now lives, bearing wit ness to the world of the immortality of the soul? Who Should vilify people for standing on that sublime ground They testify further that the Church of Christ is organised in its perfection, and if the world will accept that Church and apply its principles economically, educationally and socially, the brotherhood of man will be established and the Millennium for which all honest souls are longing will be hastened. Book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 82 May 13 1920 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Latter Day Saints Millennial Star Vol 82 May 13 1920 Classic Reprint written by George Albert Smith and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 82: May 13, 1920 Warms in the sun, refreshes in the breeze, Glows in the stars and blossoms in the trees. That, said Elder Whitney, is an admirable description of the spirit that emanates from God and pervades all creation; but it is not God himself, in whose image man was created. To worship a gift or an emanation from God is a form of idolatry. When, a hundred years ago, the Father and the Son appeared to the boy Joseph Smith - two beings in the form of man - from that hour there was one person, at least, upon this planet who knew what kind of a being God is. It was no chance happening, that took Joseph Smith into the woods to pray, on that glorious spring morning. It was the design of Deity, a predestined event. The hour had struck, and the man was there whom God had provided. Other boys might pray, and their prayers would be answered; but not in this way. All men are not called to be prophets. He was the one ordained for the purpose, the man divinely chosen to usher in the great work of the dispensation of the fulness of times. This is the Saturday night of the world's history, and morning will break upon the Millennium, the thousand years of peace, the Sabbath of the World. That is why all things are in commotion. War, famine, pestilence, earthquake, tempest and tidal wave these are among the predicted signs of the Savior's second coming. Earth must be freed from oppression and cleansed from iniquity. It is God's house, and He is coming to live in it. Bishop Charles W. Nibley was the concluding speaker. Cit-ing some of the fruits of Mormonism during the one hundred years since the Lord revealed himself, he said the world must admit the works of Mormonism are good. Was it not a good work to preach the gospel to the poor and oppressed of the earth, and bring them together in a thrifty working community, where their souls might have peace? Was it not a good work to build a community by co operative efiort? If these are good works, then the tree has put forth good fruit. Is it not a good work for the Mormon Church to support its own school system, in addition to paying taxes as citizens of the state for the support of the public school system? The gospel is a higher and better law than the law of the land. It does not controvert it, it supplements it. The Mormon people challenge the world for loyalty to their country. They teach good citizenship. And the spiritual truths taught by the Mormons: Faith, repentance, baptism by immersion for the remission of sins, the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. Are they not good teachings? The spirit of sacrifice, of service, of work, of courage, are instilled into the hearts of the Latter-day Saints by the power of the Holy Ghost. Thus all the fruits of Mormonism are evidence that its message is true. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2018-01-20 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: January 14, 1909 For nigh unto seventy years the voices of the servants of God have been heard declaring these things unto the people. Tens of thousands of missionaries and hundreds of thousands of lay mem bers of the Church have borne testimony to the world that God had manifested to them by the power of the Holy Ghost that these things are true. Now, the testimony of these thousands of witnesses must be either true or false. If it be true, then all those who reject it will come under the condemnation of the righteous Judge. But if the testimony of these witnesses be false, then condemnation will come upon all those who have borne it, and they will be denounced as deceivers and impostors. It will, therefore, be seen that the testimonies of the Latter-day Saints carry with them either sal vation or condemnation. This is a very serious matter, and we are pleased to know that it. Is beginning to be so considered by many people. A writer in a local paper a short time ago said that Mormonism had ceased to be considered a joke in this country. In the following we shall endeavor to prove that the testi mony of these witnesses is true. Why, the very nature of the testimony, it seems to us, is sufficient to do that. In the first place, why should Joseph Smith come out and declare to the world that, in answer to a fervent prayer which he sent up to the Father on high to point out to him the way of eternal life, the heavens were opened to him, and that in a glorious vision he beheld the Father and the Son; that the Lord conversed with him, and revealed unto him many great and important things pertaining to the salvation of the human family? This young man also declared with the greatest solemnity and soberness that angels ministered unto him from time to time; that they committed unto him a dispensation of the gospel, with authority to officiate in all its ordinances, and that he received from the Lord a commission to re-organize again upon the earth the Church of Christ. In testimony of the truth of these things the prophet sacrificed his life, as did also many of his devoted followers. What object could Joseph Smith have in telling such stories as these if they were not true? He could not expect to bring honor and glory to God by circulating falsehoods concerning Him; nor could he hope to gain the favor of heaven by deceiving his fellows. He could not fail to realize that his state ments, had they been false, would at the last day bring upon him the condemnation of God, who abhors lies and deception. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 80: November 7, 1918 In every particular even to circumstantial detail, the Scriptures of the West accord with those of the East in their solemn witness to these portentous developments of the divine plan, which has for its purpose the immortality and eternal life of man. The voice of the continents, the independent testimonies of Judah and Ephraim, the Scriptures of the Jews and those of the Nephites, are heard in tuneful harmony bearing true witness to the world of the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ.
